The reason people play Hog Ball is so they can claim their free loot box.
Well, yes, but hard counter, even soft counter to an extent if it stacks, prevents this.
So, it’s just the game design disallowing this.

Nobody wants them on their team, Roadhog especially.
The fact nobody want them is more incentive, enjoy your 222.

Unfortunately, playing main tank sucks a$$ for a number of reasons. The top 2 are its boring AF, and main heals never prioritize which creates loads of deaths.
Well, if you don’t want to play good tanks I get it! I don’t either! But you don’t have to queue tank then…
Do what I do, play one game for a lootbox, play Reinhardt if you must to win, and then find a better queue for fun.
I DID say that if Mei got nerfed into throw pick, Hog Ball would be everywhere. And here we are.

I specifically DON’T play tank because I won’t play the meta tanks! I won’t do that to my team!
I basically quit playing Ball, Sigma, Orisa, and Dva.
Maybe they should make it so other Tanks get to have the Fun that Hog/Ball enjoy?

I agree. Hog / Ball is difficult to make work on some maps. They certainly don’t protect the team from long range DPS.
The only good potential they may have together are on tight control point maps. When Hammond ults on the control point, Hog can ult behind the enemy team by pushing them into the mines.
I have yet to see that happen.
I have seen Hog hook single targets into a mine(s).
Imagine the queue times if the last two fun tanks to play weren’t even tanks anymore.
Man, I dunno. But they’re not fun or capable as teammates. I had them like three times today, and we lost all three times. They just lack survivability; Roadhog really isn’t meant to work without someone else providing him a barrier, he doesn’t have enough mitigation to try to main tank while Ball is dead or off in Narnia doing something.

Sadly Ball is a bigger problem than Hog. A Hog can at least tank, though poorly. Ball can end up being a throw pick.
Honestly, I think the problem is mostly Hog. Ball can make space, he just can’t hold space because he’s got to run around to do his thing. But Hog just does not work to hold space without someone giving him a barrier; he doesn’t have enough mitigation for it. He has to start hiding and using cover and usually what happens next is the other team dives your backline and kills your supports.
True, I have seen that before. Their synergy together is actually really awful. Sadly both have the problem of potentially being feeders.
I am still not sure which one is worse since they both have big problems together.
I mean, it also doesn’t help that both are pretty badly underpowered, particularly Ball.
