Stop designing heroes people can "see themselves in"

Representation of what? What is the most profitable representation?

Illari is pretty lame. If it was not for the ability to finally hitscan while not needing to actively heal teammates on support, I would not want to play her. She is edgy and I am usually into that… But she is the boring version of edgy. See Reaper? He embraces the darkness within. Absolutely beautiful, like a dead rose. Illari is just… I do not know. I cannot even praise or criticize her. She just exists.

I forget she is a hero unless I queue for support or play against her. :skull:

You’re finding out this isn’t the echo chamber you want it to be. Dissenting opinions against your own aren’t bigotry.

You love to make things up and throw them into the conversation to validate your points. I never said skin color doesn’t matter. I’m a Symmetra main. She’s not white you know. They never made a big deal about it. They didn’t change her from one skin color to another or randomly decide to make her that one day. 4 of the 5 lgbt characters in OW were made so after the fact. You cope with the idea that “they were always this” but you know if they actually intended for these characters to be that it wouldn’t have been handled this way.

I do. And you have no right to tell me I can’t. OW is made for entertainment. No one HAS to be represented in it. The only thing that matters is that the game is fun and entertaining. OW, and no game in the world, will ever fully represent the human experience. It is impossible and irrelevant to what a video game is made for.

I’ve seen Sombra about 7 times since you made this post. You never crossed my mind once. You never cross the mind of anyone who sees Sombra. The only person that thinks about you when they see Sombra is you. Context clearly isn’t your strong area, because when I said these characters exists for my entertainment I meant they exist for everyone’s. They don’t exist to represent you. They exist to make the company that created them money. You are very close minded and have a bias perspective. Maybe one day you’ll see past your own reflection.

I think it’s fairly obvious. The largest groups first, so gay, lesbian, black, etc.

The more people you’re representing, the more money you’re gonna make. Not exactly hard to grasp, but I suppose I didn’t expect much from you anyways.

I dont think anyone in this forum has been perma ban for just saying they didn’t like the Pride Event. If you don’t, ok? don’t play during June? There were people that weren’t straight that said they didn’t like it, again, ok?.

I can even recall some people that also say they didn’t like the Pride Event (in general not just your deleted thread) , and they are still active members of this forum (not a problem with them, really), and even think I saw one or two of the same people that participated in your deleted thread, right here. (of course not gonna mention them)

You well know that wasn’t the reason that original thread and your posts were flagged and then deleted. It was basically homophobia, particular, and I recall very well, trans persons. There’s a reason you are in my top 3 of people that said horrible things during that event.

If the mod that saw ur case think everyone you said was ok (just for clarification for everyone, they still deleted your threads/posts, and I suspect, you got a suspension cuz u were inactive after that for a while), well, we have also a homophobic mod.

When my opinion is something as simple as “Gay people are people too and should be represented like everyone else”

Yes, they are.

Sadly there’s likely some truth to this. For more than one reason, even. A huge number of people seem to have some bias against characters with sweet and kind personalities. They prefer meaner characters. Add that onto some people apparently believing that male characters should all be relatively unemotional and prone to aggression, and there we go

I’m really thankful we got a hero like Weaver. I love him exactly the way he is. He brings a completely unique vibe to the hero roster, which would not be the case if he were just another angry edgy gritty guy

Wow, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. Your frustration is palpable. Couldn’t hold back the disdain for a different viewpoint, huh?

Your take on discussions leading to “useless drama” is a bit rich. Since when has sweeping issues under the rug ever solved anything? But hey, if avoiding uncomfortable conversations is your thing, more power to you.

Your “America isn’t the center of the world” revelation is groundbreaking. Who would’ve thought? But hey, you seem to forget that the issues being discussed often have global implications. It’s not about where it started; it’s about addressing shared concerns.

Accusing the concept of inclusion of hypocrisy? Bold move. It’s almost like you missed the memo that inclusivity means embracing diversity, even when it doesn’t fit your personal narrative.

And really, the whole “Don’t talk with me” directive? Very classy. If only discussions were as easily avoided as you seem to think.

Your take on the majority of gay people distancing themselves from certain movements is quite the claim. Care to share your extensive survey data, or is this just another convenient narrative?

In any case, keep riding that high horse of yours.

Hey, I’m thankful you did it.

I agree with you, it is nice to have that. But I also really want an angry, hairy male support that spits and talks down to his teamates while smoking a cigar.

The type of guy that everyone thinks is a jerk but the one person who knows him, knows he donates half his salary to charity. The hero who secretly cares, but cares nothing for the spotlight or social status.

He can be the Junker support and have a smokescreen debuff to go with his cigar.

I appreciate Weaver because he is very different from my usual characters. I am a big Reaper and Soldier fan. Those have been my favorite Overwatch characters since the beginning. I am not exclusively about dark brooding aggressive types. They are my favorites, typically, but variety is the spice of life(weaver).

My top 5 favorite video game characters in no particular order are Sweet Tooth, Kratos, War, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Scorpion (the version before he became all sensitive). Yep… I never stopped being 13.

I agree with that 100% too, because it would add ANOTHER bit of much-needed variety, particularly to the support role in this case :dancer:

We really really need more supports who are tough, grumpy, aggressive, etc. Evil ones, too: all we really have is Moira when it comes to evil supports. That’s it. We are in SERIOUS need of some variety

I didn’t see Weaver’s addition to the role as contributing to this lopsidedness, because he filled another VERY important empty spot in the roster (a male hero with a super sweet and nurturing personality, plus various other qualities that people consider “feminine”). I was extremely surprised when the “cute, Mercy-like support hero” that they kept telling us about turned out to be a man. That was amazing

I’m going to compare that to how I feel about “Space Ranger”. I don’t have anything against her, but I just can’t bring myself to be excited about her at all. She’s giving me “samey” vibes, like she’s not going to bring anything really fresh to the support role character-wise. I even just refer to her as “Space Mercy” when I talk about her

Can we quit the BS and just skip to the part where you say the quiet part out loud.

98% of the people playing OW could care less about it all. It’s the ones in forums and Reddit that scream loudly that they need to ‘see themselves’. The rest of the players just want a well balanced, playable game.

So in other words, there are no issues

War is soooooo totally wicked!! I was disappointed where they went with the story of Darksiders going into DS2 though. That ending of DS1 had me in goosebumps screamin “aaaaww sheeeeeeeee”. It was so hype.

Then DS2 didn’t even continue on from that :frowning:

But at least the gameplay was better with the added RPG mechanics. I couldn’t even be bothered playing DS3 after the first few areas though. Felt like a huge step backward. Maybe you could convince me otherwise?

I mostly agree with you. I did enjoy the third game because there is a SEVERE lack of 3D Metroidvania games, but it was mostly downhill after the original if we are being honest. :pensive:

Aw rip. I won’t waste my time with 3 then. I really enjoyed the RPG mechanics of 2.

I really dislike the trend of downgrading or removing mechanics in sequels to games for the sake of ‘streamlining’ gameplay. So lazy.
