Still nothing for Sym

I daresay there are more than 2 Sym 1 tricks/mains who occasionally get into GM. So yes.

There may well also be the very rare time when someone decides to play Sym. However, that isn’t must pick and frankly it’s bizarre that we’re even arguing that a 0.45% pickrate is somehow must pick status. Especially with her barely scraping 55% winrate. That’s meme tier.

I believe those are her current numbers. Before I start, I want to make it clear that I don’t think McCree is balanced and I don’t want to use him as a baseline. I actually think he’s one of the most unbalanced DPS right now because he’s a generalist that does too much. Lack of mobility and his “trash ult” aren’t enough to stop him from being the most picked DPS despite being picked even more than the heroes he’s been made out to counter.

If I were to rebalance her, I’d suggest any of these (any combination or all):


Health
– +25 shield health (She sits at 250, 100 HP, 150 shields).


Turrets
– Projectile speed increased to 20 meters per second + 8 second cooldowns

Primary:
– Primary fire damage readjusted to 80/130/180 (better base damage + better 2nd level charge damage)
– Faster reload speed
– Ammo consumption reduced to 5 per second (down from 7 per second)
– 10 ammo per second charging off of barriers (up from 7)

Secondary Fire
– Secondary fire area of effect increased to 3 meters (up from 2).

The only reason I say she’s a must-pick on those maps is because that stat gets DILUTED given the many many many other maps where she isn’t run. It’s not even the full map of Lijiang - it’s one, sometimes two maps that she’s almost always run.

And even in “must-pick” situations, you can still opt not to run them. I still think she’s a must-pick on those maps. But then that gets watered down so heavily given the many other maps that she’s not ideal. I think being VERY strong on certain maps like she is, is fine. I don’t think it’s fine that in almost every other scenario, she’s poop.

And I’m throwing it back to the fact that I don’t think she’s fine where she is. I think she can use some love and there’s a lot of directions they can take to help her. My indication that she is a near must-pick on those maps isn’t to say otherwise, it’s just to show that she’s used in a tiny tiny subsection of maps, which is fine to be…but if that’s all there is then lolololol that’s not the best, especially with heroes like McCree running on EVERY map, every objective mode.

Sym changes that would help her

  1. 15 meter beam for increased survivability
  2. Faster turret set up time
  3. Finite TP with a faster casting time

Can you show that this is the case? It seems very unlikely that her tiny pickrate and mediocre winrate are anything but proof that most people view her as not worth running.

Nothing in her stats screams must pick. If she’s in every game on both sides on some maps then it shouldn’t be difficult to find numerous examples of that in GM streams. Any time they play on those maps should show what you claim.

That is after all what a must pick is.

I dont mind a sym in my games but most sym main just wont switch when she isnt a viable pick, the simple fact of everything right now is that she has had alot of attention & that attention needs to be focus on other characters

This is primarily why I understand this to be the case. I almost always see a Symm on at least one team on these two maps.

In which case can you provide links to multiple examples of her being used on both teams and not switched off? You’re arguing must pick status. Not that she’s good.

If you want to give me some time to do this, I can. I’m not at home yet and I’d need to recollect a lot of different streams I have watched, find those time stamps, link, etc. which I could technically do on my phone. I don’t have that kind of patience lol

The beam already does trash damage for a melee locked charged up weapon on a hero with no survivability, Sym doesnt need to trade anything other than team TP for buffs. Delete team TP, make her an actual dps hero with an actual dps role that has actual match-ups.

No one wants taxibotting.

She has gotten more nerfed than anything in the last 2 years. And 1 single ‘‘meaningful’’ buff in the form of a partial revert that gave her 25hp back.

It doesnt count when most of her attention are nerfs.

She’s not amazing but still better than Reaper, Sombra, Mei, Winston,Moira, D.va

Yeah but going down to 170dps, in exchange for range which in turn increases survivability, makes it less melee and also increases the consistency of charging.

I think I’d prefer one less turret but make them stronger with more hp.

Also change the teleporter back to disappearing after a few seconds, but greatly increase the deployment speed. Let it actually be used for fun thing during combat, not just faster respawn.

Thats the least thing Sym needs. Unless you guve them absurd amounts of HP, they will still be very easy to kill.

What Sym needs is more turrets, as they are meant to be disposable aides in combat, not her main way to deal damage.

We had something like this before and Blizz didnt like it because they want Sym to be an unfun and neutered taxibot.

This’ll take me a while longer than I thought. Some of the channels I watched are now in subscriber-only mode, so that’s making it harder to compile a few (barring Stevo because I don’t want to cite the most known Symmetra player).

just look at the numbering of her orbs:

add on top of that low effective range and high inconsistency with:

  • sniper tier charge time —> really low firerate which encourages aim because can’t spam much, but physically it can’t be aimed in many ranges as shown above
  • heck mercy’s pistol (100 dps) globally has better dps than sym’s orbs (120/(1s charge time + 0.25s wind down) = 96dps)

we can clearly see how :put_litter_in_its_place: she is numerically to straight up allow for straight buffs. heck it becomes even more obvious there’s room when you compare with other heroes like pharah’s rockets and junkrat’s bombs.

and then when you look at sym’s balance historically, there’s further little reason to not just straight up buff her:

  • before infinite tp: underperforming
  • BAM infinite tp nerf globally spiking up her down time cause her core tool got a :put_litter_in_its_place: cd mechanic. then followed with nerfs to pretty much every other part of her kit.
    • like +25hp and a 2s shave off tp cd defs ain’t going to compensate all that.
