Still D/Cing after event start

I love that I can’t bump my own post so here is a new thread. I also love that where it’s possible to blame an ISP, those threads have responses.

edit: had a longer running WinMTR log so I pasted that.

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider

Did you ever disconnect during this test? It is important to remember to keep running the WinMTR until you encounter a disconnection and allow it to run for about another 5 to 6 minutes. This will help the WinMTR report the data correctly if there is a problem.

Yes I had it running, disconnected and left it running for 10 mins.

I’m having the same issue as the OP and I’m also with teksavvy which leases lines from Shaw.

It’s becoming very annoying, the game is going perfectly fine, im in the middle of a fight then its an instant “lost connection to overwatch server”

Please don’t tack onto someone else’s thread. If you have an issue with your connection create your own thread with a WinMTR test. It becomes rather chaotic fast if they have to troubleshoot the connection for multiple people in the same thread.

same issue

found the fix, look below

It doesn’t matter if Blizzard games are the only ones doing this. You are taking a different route across the internet to pretty much every game and it can go wrong anywhere along that route.

Anyone who has an issue with their connection to Overwatch should create their own thread first and preferably supply a WinMTR. This way it can be determined with actual data if you have the same issue or not. It is then up to Blizzard themselves to create a consolidated thread if it is truly the same issue. Without that, it gets too chaotic to deal with what most of the time is not the same exact issue.

found the issue
its the lease timing on the arris modems
call your internet provider, and have them help you set the lease to 48 hours

everyone having these issues is using arris modems

Unfortunately I am not using an Arris modem.

on the bottom of it, it doesnt say arris?

Nope, it says Thomson.

try doing a factory reset of the modem if you havent already

I’m not seeing any sign of packet loss in the winMTR test. If a disconnect happened while this test was running, it means that whatever is causing it is treating game data differently than the test data.

Note, if a disconnect did not happen while this test was running please ignore this information and re-run the test to record the issue in the results.

I typically look for Quality of Service software and settings in these types of cases. Common programs are: SmartByte, Killer Control, Alienware, and other similar software. Some routers and modems will also come with this built-in.

If you have any of the above listed programs, try disabling them or toggling the “network optimization” or “quality of service” settings off. Be sure to also try logging into the router to verify if these settings exist, and if they do, disable them. Keep in mind that not all routers will have this, so if they don’t exist ignore this step.

I’m confused are there not 100% losses after xe-0-0-1-1-br02-eqla1.as57976. net?

Also I have already looked into QoS on my router and it was off when I started experiencing this. I turned it on as originally I thought perhaps there were too many devices running. I will turn it off again and post my results but I do not think there will be any change.

No, those nodes just have network settings which do not allow the test data to report the results. It’s safe to ignore those in most cases.

The only time that display should impact the test is if it happens on all nodes, including the home network (first line in the test is the router/modem) which means the test never connected properly to begin with indicating a very severe network issue.

I’m not sure then because this is the same on every run of WinMTR I see. However, I previously ran a tracert after a disconnect and I was seeing timeouts after I hit blizzard servers. I will try and run that again and post the results.

edit: I just remembered the IP I was running against was not a game IP or at least I’m not sure. It was just some random one I found on a Blizzard forum so I can’t even be sure it’d be the same route.

edit2: Whyyyyyyyyyyy can I not add another reply if I’m the last person to post?

I have been playing for awhile and not disconnected. This has happened before so I’ll just post the next time I D/C.

arris routers, here how to change the lease time, this info is one google search away
Open up a web browser (Internet Explorer, for example) and enter the IP address

htt p://192.168.0.1

in your browser’s address bar and press Enter. The Login window will prompt for the router configuration username and password.
username is admin
password is password

change the lease time to 172800

I was good all last night and then the 2nd game this morning I D/C’d again. Unfortunately for me I tried doing the tracert that I thought would show some issues but it did not run into any problems.

I know you were saying that the 100% losses can normally be ignored but if those servers do not respond to the test then how can you be sure they are not the problem?

Good question! In a few words, internal monitoring. While I can’t use that information to prove to you that we don’t have any known issues at the moment, we use that monitoring to stay on top of these issues and proactively provide messaging when we notice something is going wrong.

If something is actually wrong with the servers or routers nearby our servers, our contact queues explode. We have telemetry for everything nearby us which sends in alerts/calls people in when things actually break that are in our direct control.

The reason we need more information from you right now is that your current winMTR has no detectable problems. If you can get us another one that catches a disconnection, and run that traceroute you were talking about afterward, we can scope it for you and see if we can see anything. If there’s nothing in the tests, though, it’s even possible it’s another program on your PC or a rarer hardware issue (like the arris issue the previous poster mentioned.)
