I replied to someone else earlier but in my rank people like to instalock dps so usually I have to go Mercy, moira, or zen for a better team comp
Yeah but that happens to everyone pal, not only you, so if you dont climb, its you the one that doesnt.
Doesnt matter who you get in your team, if you were CONSISTENTLY better at gamesense, awareness and aim than your opponents … you would climb. Its a fact.
Yes its painful to see how sometimes you get people “with a Brain” and sometimes monkeys smashing a keyboard but then again, thats for everyone.
Be clever and the next time you find people “with a Brain” add them and make 2-3 member groups and suddenly you will see everything is much more “easier”.
PS: I didnt because i dont play comp that much (lose SR via decay) but doing that increases your chances of wining by stupidly high amounts.
Also yea, be careful about shot calling. The way you talk on the mic can either come off as shot calling or complaining. This can cause problems. I’d just play and not shot-call.
This can be seen as horrible advice - but I never shot call for others. They either listen, tell me to shut up, or don’t listen. Rarely listen. I only shot call when someone shot calls first to start the chain.
For me I usually just say “push in” or “back out”. I always compliment my teammate if they get a double kill or higher to help us secure a point (attack or defend). And I only call out major threats like a pharah spamming us or widow in the back or anyone trying to flank us. People usually don’t tell me to shut up it’s more a matter of whether or not they wanna listen
Something as simple as that can come out as being not toxic, but sort of angry/pissed off.
I can see if someone says “back out” or “go in” - depending on their tone, I may see it as being demanding/“idiots, gotta tell them simple stuff”. Especially if they’re losing or met some toxic people earlier.
It does… but up to a certain degree.
You are affecting 1/12th of the match outcome in the end.
Then just use LFG to get better team comps
Trust me I have tried that but no better results have come out of it. I might try to use LFG for a quickplay comp prep and if I like my team then we can go into a real game. Cuz LFG into a real comp game straight away hasn’t worked out for me that well
Then just make some friends who you can play some comp games with. If you play a few matches, then I’m sure you can find people willing to play tank and healer.
If I plan on playing for a good while I usually make my own group and ruthlessly kick people I dont synergize with very well. Usually by 3 or 4 games in I have a team I can go on a good win streak with. I finished season 9 in silver and season 10 like 5 SR above silver. This season I switched up my main and waited for lfg to come out I place 1910 and I’m sitting low plat right now I think 2517 or so. You can do it man just be persistent.
I don’t mean to pop this bubble but if you’re in bronze, silver, or gold, then you belong there!
I had the “pleasure” of playing with silvers and golds when I was at my cousin’s and the lack of game sense is astounding BUT what blew me away even more was how oblivious to it everyone was. Most of them acted as if they were GM and the rest of us were holding them down somehow.
Also, congrats, you have a fifty percent accuracy… against SILVERS/GOLDS! I’m not the best Widow in the world (am actually a support and off-tank main) and the one time I pitted myself against Silver and golds, I had 65% accuracy and over 50 Criticals!
Here’s another example of how oblivious people are in the lower ranks. I was playing Ana at one point and our McCree was constantly flanking, and every time he did he was jumped by half the enemy team. Despite this, I managed to keep him alive through quite a bit of damage but, to quote Mercy, I’m not a miracle worker! And so he died every time. Also, he didn’t get a single pick while he was panic jumping after his “brilliant” idea to engage the enemy by himself.
At the end of the round, what does this McCree do? He blames heals for his failure to DPS!
Seriously, again, the absurdities I witnessed and how unaware players were of their own flaws was crazy.
I want to emphasise that there’s nothing wrong with being bronze, silver, gold, plat, etc, and that during my brief stint in silver/gold, I met a lot of nice players. I just hate this mentality of blaming your team. Believe me, if you really were better than your team mates, you would climb, even with the odd bad game. I’ve seen people mention that there’s some kind of SR-hell but have seen it disproven multiple times.
Anyway, I don’t want to give any tips because I have pretty horrid game-sense and mechanics as well, but there are two titbits that I think everyone can agree with when it comes to improving your game. Communicate with your team and switch when necessary (not constantly).
Sorry if that sounded harsh but just thinking of those games still tilts me. Never doing that again.
like i said in another thread, it’s all because of smurfs.
the game, especially at high plat and low diamond, is absolutely infested with smurf accounts ruining the game.
these players are too good to be low plat or lower, but their character skill isn’t high enough as their mains to reach mid diamond & upwards, but their gamesense and confidence is obviously way above anyone else at that rank because they’re used to dealing with and against players who are far better and are used to a much harder challenge.
there’s no skill, gamesense or positioning involved, it all just depends purely on the rng on which team gets which smurfs.
I don’t have much skill with the game (my highest average accuracy with any character is 42% with Pharah) so I make up for it with knowledge-how to play the characters, who counters them, how they counter others and so on.
But that knowledge is useless when people aren’t listening. When I say “Someone go hitscan and kill Pharah.” nobody listens, so I have to switch off healer and do it myself, which gets everyone killed because I’m awful at playing hitscanners and we’re now down a healer. When I say “Genji switch off, three of their team counter you.” they just continue diving in and getting massacred. I know about the “blame your teammates for losses” mentality, but I seriously feel like I’m only stuck where I am because my teammates don’t listen to my advice.
SR determines skill? By that logic, grades define intelligence and genitals define gender.
this is where you went wrong though, when you switch and you’re no good at it, you’re just making a pointless switch and made things worse.
as annoying as it sometimes is, always stick with the team and try to empower the current teamsetup somehow. (if you lack the dps, play zen for discord, if you need more pushing power, gets a zarya perhaps if the setup allows it) etc
as stupid as a lot of people are, you’re better being stupid together then switching off and doing your own thing.
You can definitely climb to diamond if you’re really good mechanically alone. Above is pretty much gamesense. Still though gamesense is the number one priority you want to improve as you’ll start needing it more as you go up in higher rank.
If you can, try use LFG.
I usually duo with a dps friend and whenever he used LFG, he just kicks people who aren’t good and doesn’t play the role they are queued with. But yeah if you are going to use LFG. Make sure they are willing to talk and get really good tank players. It’s hard to find one at this point because of their experience becoming more difficult. Like swagganomics said, try be persistent and you’ll be fine :3
All in all, don’t tilt, no moping, and of course just play to improve. Winning is just a side effect of your improvement. Just know that grinding is part of a process of climbing ranks in Overwatch.
Not sure why everyone thinks I’m blaming my teammates that is definitely not what I’m implying. I know I can improve myself. Also, I don’t think it’s fair to compare those players you played with to me because we are different people. Not everyone in silver acts the same as someone in silver and the same applies to every rank
SR does not determine your skill
well… your skill determines your SR
Your team’s skill determines your SR*
yes it does, if you’re stuck somewhere with 50% winrate then its your rank
if you don’t belong there then your winrate should be much more higher than the average player there
Fair enough, I did mention I met a few nice people. My main points were that the SR system is actually pretty accurate and you shouldn’t look at your team and believe you’re better than them, focus on yourself and your own mistakes instead. Anyway, hope you manage to make your goal of plat, or diamond, or whatever. Personally, I’d suggest just having fun with the game no matter your rank. Join us on the casual side, it’s a lot more pleasant over here! <3
