That’s not true. There are modifiers in this game that can cause you to lose more points than you win, even if you have higher than a 50% win rate.
Except the modifiers are active for all ranks. Not just the top players.

When I played comp I used to get so stressed about my rank. I only started to climb when I stopped caring. Amazing how that works.
You just need to relax. I used to get really angry in Brawlhalla when I was stuck in platinum trying to climb to diamond. Eventually I realized the trick to climbing was to stop playing when I was “off” at all. Got annoyed last game? No reason to anger queue myself down 400 elo. Just chill and come back when Im ready to have fun
I always play better when Im having fun
The issue is, you will find those people being toxic in every game. The scoreboard in OW actually enables it in people.
Competition is well… Competitive by nature. Meaning you will never be the best if you don’t believe you’re the best. This brings a level of arrogance in anyone who competes, the scoreboard just fuels unnecessary fights about “I have 1k more healing, but I have 2 elims more”. And people would be more looking to work as a team generally.
You can never get rid of toxicity out of online games, you can only try reduce it.
I did not really climb once I stopped caring to be perfectly honest, but I started winning A LOT more. No idea how that works, but like I said, I do not actually care anymore. It can do its thang.
That’s psychological, you are putting too much pressure on yourself. No one ever performs well under a lot of pressure.
I was the same as well for a while. Had 3 accounts, 2 in diamond and my main I was floundering in gold.
I now personally go play QP and get in a killer spirit before I try. Go destroy those QP games, get my aim in and my confidence, then it follows into my comp games.
You are telling me. I have no idea why I do it. I just pretend as if I have to be the hero from the lore or I am a failure. I have actually had 69-0 games where I have lost. I guess I offload that onto my teammates because I get pissy about it… Oops!
But I think you hit the nail on the head. I need to work on it.
Nah, I had my main account stuck in silver/gold for over a year. Only time I’ve seen someone lose more than they gain (while playing through the rank) is super high elo, like top200.
I am an engineer and love statistics, I analysed all that. If I lost a game I’d typically lose 20sr, if I won my next game I would get 20sr. Figures sometimes change by a 1-2%. If I went on a losing streak (had some real big ones) I could be losing like 27sr. This all around solver/gold.
I’m now climbing quickly, getting 27sr each win because I maintain winning trend. Winning trend is new win streak modifier.
Let’s say I continue the same winning trend upto top #1 (I wish ), that 27sr would start reducing for each win the closer I got.
I also have my own conspiracy that blizzard hates me and put a blackmark against my name when WoW first came out and I got suspended for botting
I swear I never get the damn mount drops from that game
Um, just because you don’t see something, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen.
Oh good! Well, here are some statistics for you. They have said that 5% of their games fall in the 60/40 win/loss prediction. If you lose when you are on the 60% chance to win team, you will lose more MMR than you would gain if you win. So, mathematically, that means that you can win more than 50% of your matches and still lose MMR.
Heavy pressure leads to poor decisions in competition. I can do the same, but am I tilted then from someone 2 games earlier and trying to still prove a point or am I wanting to win this game? It’s a hard one to tell sometimes, but general rule if I’m yelling in the mic, I’m tilted and go play some QP
QP is like my training grounds too, always trying something new, playing new heroes and learning their play styles. Cos if I can play them, I can think like them, so I can predict their moves.
You are aware this is a game played by humans right? That is all you need to know to answer that question.
That is some games in matchmaking
There will be times when you’re on the good side. It’s not a permanent figure.
Consider me climbing at the moment, there are also gonna be people who get lucky, they will also get unlucky too.
It all averages out in the end.
I’m sure this doesn’t need said since we all agree already but humans are consistent 100% of the time.
Yeah, and if you lose those times, it is very possible to lose MMR with a higher than 50% win rate. Use your brain mr engineer
Things don’t just magically even out, lol.
I suggest you find some reputable information but seriously everything you’re saying is just conspiracies. You’re not gonna go down in rank if you’re winning your games.
Did they say what rank range that applied to?
Are you sure youre not just picking out things to justify losing rank?
And yes it averages out, I’d recommend listening more in mathematics classes.
The biggest truth to all this is, if you’re looking for reasons why you aren’t ranking up, you will never rank up because you’re already looking to lose.
You need to look for ways to win. That being what are you going to do in game to win? Are you gonna save that player who is about to die, could you of landed an extra damage shot while support to secure another kill. It’s about min Maxing your gameplay, not blaming the system.
It’s not. It’s mathematics.
Because of the modifiers, it is very possible to do so. It’s not even difficult math, it is very simple.
Here, I will give you an example (these are all made up numbers, just to illustrate how it works).
Let’s say that for every 60/40 game where you are on the 60 team, if you lose, you lose 10 points, and gain 1 point for a win. Now, let’s say every match where the team odds are 50/50, you lose 5 points for a loss, and gain 5 points for a win. Are you still with me? Now, let’s say you play a 60/40 match on the 60 team and lose. Now you have -10 points and are 0-1. The next two games you play are 50-50, and you win them both. Now you have 0 points (no gain) and are 2-1. Do you see how you did not go up in rank, even though you won more than 50% of your games? This is what the modifiers do. (and if you wanted to show losing points, lets say you lost 2 60/40 matches and won 3 50/50 matches. Then you would be at -5 points, with a 3-2 w/l ratio).
Deep down, I believe I want to lose because back in the day, when I was diamond… The match was just more difficult and I am the type of person who always clicks on narrative mode unless I truly enjoy the game enough to replay it on nightmare. Once I realized I was Another Brick in the Wall in diamond, I believe I just stopped trying to improve and instead min-maxed my stat padding to make me feel superior to the Plat Chat. Yep…
Albeit, I am not entirely sure I am actually capable of being a master player. I peaked there with Mauga, but my heart beats only for Reinhardt and I somewhat doubt I can make it up there regardless. We shall see. It’s not necessarily one of my goals, but I am trying to let go of everything and just improve my Reinhardt. It’s the only thing I care about in this game anymore.
I’m honestly considering trying out reinhardt in OW2 just because you keep talking about him so much. (I haven’t even played any tank in OW2)
