(SPECULATIONS) I think Maximilien couldn't betray Doomfist by that primitive reason

Primitive reason is to save his life or freedom/money
At first, he had a lot of time to run to helicopter, possibly a plot hole, but what if he needed put Doomfist in jail?
For what reason?

  1. Who ruled when doomfist was jailed? Doomfist raised Maximilien position in Talon (source:dialouge in last pve mission), there is possibility that Max wanted profit just like Vialli (loyalty has a price) He was surprised that Doomfist look well like Vialli and also how security in Max casino missed people that wanted to kill Doomfist? :eyes: concidence?
This version of scenario is boring anyway
  2. Or not Vialli, but another talon leader with another course of action with which Doomfist disagree
  3. Max has own plans on talon
If only we had a completed story of Maximilien and Doomfist ā€œfriendshipā€, and history of Talon
I want to believe that Max not just corrupt buisenessman, because for what Max needs money if he has not interests besides money? Just to get more and more numbers of money? Until get all money in the world?
Also if primitive reason is right, than this is the borest plot ever
    Questions Chu will never answer
    ā€¦
Or will answer 6 yrs later

Doomfist wants a war. War isā€™nt good for Maximilien business (casino, rhum, and probably othet luxery stuff)

I think he is good with his money, and his ā€œrevolutionā€ against humanity is more capitalistic and expending his empire than a full open war.

If we know something about Talon is that they are always one step ahead of OW. Doomfist knew that they will catch Max eventually. Thats why he talked with the unknown omnic far away from Cuba. OW captured Akande short time after Storm Rising in Numbani with the Unknown Omnic and/or Max being the council leaders.

idk, maybe Max and Doom actually has a solid partnership? There are some things that got me wonderā€¦

  1. If Max sold Doomfist out, why didnā€™t Doom kill him after breaking out of prison? Doomfist isnā€™t that stupid.
  2. Storm rising was 2 years after retribution, not long after Doomfist rise up to leadership. Was there opposition within Talon already, trying to take down him and Max?
  3. Reaper and Widow was already on Doomfistā€™s side while he broke free. But why and how?

My personal theory is yes, Max sold Doomfist out, in exchange for their future success. He took storm rising as a chance, kept himself safe, got Doomfist to do the tough work, kept their enemies close, and probably manage to groom Widow, Reaper, Sombra onto their side, even Doomfist himself had been locked away.

My biggest gripe with the event lore wise is that we didnā€™t learn anything about Maximiliens raison dā€™etre in Talon.

All Talon members have goals or ambitions for a better world.

  • Sanjay wants to build a better world.
  • Moira wants to evolve humanity.
  • Reaper seems to be going after revenge but if we look at Reyes actions against Antonio he might be thinking that for the greater good you have to do bad things.
  • Doomfist want to make humanity stronger trough conflict.

Doomfist respects convictions more than anything. His idea of strength doesnā€™t mean physical one, rather the ability to strive for ones ideals. He even said to Reaper that he doesnā€™t mind some ambition on his underlings.
In return that means that falling prey to his underlings ambitions means weakness which Doomfist hates the most.

Maximiliens power his his resourcefulness.
One one hand one could say that in the end result Maximilien survived his capture attempt presumably without a scratch whereas Doomfist ended up in jail.
What happened in the Casino could be interpreted in many ways:

  • Vialis men broke in without help or anything and max didnā€™t had a hand in it.
  • Vialis men had help from max with the goal to eliminate Doomfist.
  • Vialis men had help from max with the goal to pit Doomfist against Viali for Maximiliens own benefit.
  • Vialis men had help from max with the goal to pit Doomfist against Viali for Talons benefit.

Viali wanted to turn Talon into a profit machine which depending on Maximiliens goal in talon would be bad.
Especially the last thing would be cunning way to try to eliminate a rival without putting himself into the firing line should something fail.
It would fit his personality quite well 'cause as we all know:

ā€œThereā€™s no such thing as luck. Other wise they might actually let us play the gamesā€
