Well, they have a point if they’re still complaining now. Their complaining supposedly brought out her rework, so i giess it feels like they just don’t truly know what they want.
When a hero has an easy to use kill-combo, the victim has almost no counterplay.
Sure, that’s not new to this game. But in this case Sombra being invisible means you don’t even see it coming. That is unfair just on principle.
Players have complained for years about 1 shots and kill combos from Widow but at least you can guess where she is, if not be able to see her outright. Sombra? You only know her position after you’re hacked with a 50 dps DoT and point blank range machine gun. Where’s the counterplay?
I would encourage you to pick a different comparison other than Widow, the hero that people heavily complained about because she would dominate certain maps with literal one shots that you could not engage with or counter outside of another Widow. Sombra, compared to Widow, has way more counterplay even if you cannot see her coming because she is not instantly deleting you lmao
You have already pushed her towards where she is now, and you don’t like it.
I know they have more players than ever, and one of the most successful games every built.
And yet, the complaints keep coming, and it looks like the reworks have stopped there.
That she is popular, and fun, and people are playing her?
I think they already have the point.
Every time they rework her, people hate the results even more… so, best of luck there.
They are more flexible than you are realistic about what Blizzard will do with the hero.
This is what happens when a hero has to commit to fights, and doesn’t have in combat mitigations like Blink, deflect, and Recall.
You balance the hero so they HAVE to commit to a fight, then they will make it so they will win that fight most of the time… because that is how you get them to almost 50% win rate.
Like, take OneTrickPony… he is arguing that Inv has to be nerfed or gone…
Now that would mean they would REALLY crank up her deadlyness. This is why inv isn’t going away.
Because while they hate on invis. You hate on their deadlyness, and others hate on hack, and others want her to have to commit to fights more, and want translocation gone.
There isn’t a lot of moving stuff around without one of the sub crowds getting more upset.
I mean, of course you hate on the deadlyness of the hero. It’s Tracer without the in combat mitigations, yeah they are going to make her super dangerous.
I have noticed that as well. If I am being perfectly honest, I never felt as if I was truly a Sombra main. I do not get along with most of them. As far as I can tell, they intrinsically dislike me. And as a result, perhaps I ended up disliking them. I am relatively petty. But whatever. It is not as if playing a hero means you need to be part of that community. I always get along with Mercy mains despite the fact that I do not play her. Aria Rose is my queen.
That being said, after the rework, I just found myself entirely embarrassed by the idea of being associated with Sombra mains (which is really saying something if I am part of the Mercy Mafia). It’s just bad vibes as far as I am concerned. I have been playing her less and less even though she was always top five hero. Currently, I just use her to get rid of problematic Widow players and that’s about it. Only in quickplay, at that (because I am one tricking Reaper in competitive).
I just feel passionate about this subject because Sombra used to be one of my favorite heroes. It is actually funny because everyone called me out for being a nostalgia head in a thread where I was against Reinhardt because I wanted to preserve him as everything else that is changing is awful. I sort of backed off because I did not play Reinhardt and I did not understand the struggle. But it made me realize, if I am just a relic of the past… Perhaps I should play as a relic of the past? Maybe if I missed Old Overwatch, I should play one of the most outdated characters…
Best decision of my Overwatch career. I do not even care about Neo Sombra anymore. She actually counters Reinhardt relatively hard and I do not even mind because I am experiencing what Overwatch used to be. It’s all about not looking toward your future and instead lingering in past regrets!
Sombra is another straw that built up to breaking the camels back. Tank players are going to continue to disappear as long as blizzard keeps piling on the frustrations.
I wouldn’t trust this community to differentiate the two - or any community for that matter. Most people will lean towards, “I do not like this, therefore it is bad”.
When Sombra attacks a support, they don’t need to “instantly delete you”. Just distracting them is enough to cause the other teammates to die under fire.
I cannot count how many times the tank has died because I was too busy healing my support teammate jumped by a Sombra, or my support teammate healing me. The best bet is if a dps is helping to peel so at least one of us can keep healing up.
That’s 3v1 just to make sure our tank doesn’t die, and in that case the other dps will probably die. If we had two tanks, it would be a completely different story…
That’s the flankers’ role. It’s not just Sombra. She does surprise people, but Tracer and Genji are deadlier on top of that. The whole thing is that they distract people to deal with them while the rest of your team takes care of your other allies.
Genji and Tracer can be seen and heard and when they disengage, they can’t go invisible. You can see where they came from and where they are going.
And “they don’t have enough tank players to go back to 6v6” is the most untrue and disproven statement of OW2. You cannot stop people from picking tanks in every game mode except 5v5.
Tank stacking is a huge problem in open queue, mayhem, 4v4, 3v3, even in FFA they are all over the place. Looks like there is no problem whatsoever with tanks being picked. They just don’t want to solo tank.
Is that a benefit, though? I mean, Tracer is #1 DPS by a mile. Sure, you can see her coming and where she’s going after she engages (although if you are playing her properly, you are sneaking and going undetected).
But she’s far, far more effective and has more kill power. There are trade-offs. That’s why Sombra doesn’t have that level of burst damage or overall damage that Tracer or Genji have.
I feel like it’s hard to gage this because in other modes, tanks have lower HP so you cannot reasonably have 2 tanks; they’re essentially bigger DPS. And they operate a lot stronger than tanks did in 6v6 because their kits are designed to be the solo tank. So it makes sense you’d stack really good kits.
I wouldn’t be opposed to trying, though; I liked 6v6 more. I do not like the onus of tanking to be on one person because within the tank category, there is a lot of counter-picking…and there is only 1 tank. If you’re getting counterpicked on tank, your life is so much harder since theres no one else to help cover your bases.
