Sombra rework is the best thing in OW2

I thought this was a troll post but wasn’t entirely convinced and then I saw this lol.

Brig shaped the meta and killed an entire role at high level for over a year. Let’s be realistic here Sombra is annoying but she doesn’t singlehandedly shape the meta.

Yes but Brig’s abilities could be tweaked and tuned to a healthy state (the devs just refusde to do it). Sombra has never been in a healthy state, and the current iteration is the least healthy she’s ever been.

Brig shaped the meta cus she was OP busted and the devs refused to take her power level seriously for a year.

Sombra isn’t inherently OP busted like Brig was, but Sombra’s kit itself and how it functions and interacts with the core gameplay integrity is far more unhealthy than Brig ever was.

OP Busted isn’t the same as unhealthy. Very important distinction.

I mean sombra could be too. Increase the time between when you can hack people, replace virus with hack so you have to aim the hack, remove infinite invisibility. They removed and tweaked a lot from brig before she was “healthy” (though a lot of people don’t agree that she even is still, and she’s not a problem at low ranks really), they also just refuse to change sombra so :person_shrugging:

Just make sombra tracer with vertical mobility and an occasional interrupt. Less damage more utility. It’s very doable

Nice bait, but old Sombra s6 either got too scared trying to get headshots to confirm a kill and got it via intensive aim or translocated out, or had to hack for the dmg boost which gave the opponent time to react and duel.
Old sombra had a breakable translocator that could also be too far away if the sombra player wasn’t good with it, which punished bad plays and rewarded risk (unless you were too risky)

Now any player with a virus in their brain can click E and body spray a widow while missing half their shots and confirm a kill.
Now sombra just translocates out and goes invis over a small ledge which is almost as easy of a getaway as iframes, as long as they don’t find where you landed and spray there.
Instead of being punished for any risk reward, you can just dissapear and play spectator mode close by every time for the reengage annoying virus respam combo.

Now I don’t want old translocator back, I just added that in for my own satisfaction.
Current sombra should lose her passive, the only dps passive in the game applied to one hero because of how forced she is to be a TF2 Spy ripoff either by making invis an activated abililty, or giving her a new skill and making her a reliable flanker hero who relies on ability hits and isn’t a tracer clone. (or a support hero, which lets face it, would be a lot more fun for everyone)

Long story short, players could react to being hacked since it was her primary damage output or were vulnerable to intensive aim skill and a lack of environmental cover or were low hp which makes them dying usually entirely their fault. Therefore this made that version of sombra in s6 far less annoying than current sombra who only exists to hard counter the one shot hero they refuse to rework.

There is a reason people who were losing didn’t swap to s6 sombra all the time, yet now it’s all I see. Spectator mode with a good TTK if you hit your Virus, makes for easy picks.
As someone else mentions, a lower skill floor on a perma invis hero is unpleasant at best.

Yea it’s very doable, just change the character at her core. I mean, this is what they should do, in a sense it used to be what old Sombra did when translocator was on a cooldown and hack would interrupt stealth and have a meaningful cast time.

Brig wasn’t radically changed to be not busted. She was just nerfed in her numbers and a select few ability interactions, but she fundamentally didn’t change as a hero.

Sombra has changed fundamentally multiple times, each time for the worse. Perma invis and hack from stealth and refund of hack if you somehow miss it -all of this can’t be balanced to be healthy, unless the abilities are reworked at their core.

As they should be.

Also another reason why Sombra is unhealthy, is that her kit is centered around avoiding counterplay, and locking people out from playing the game.
The only good thing is that her focus has been shifted more towards damage than lock-out, but she can still do both and oftentimes clash hard with heroes that are very ability dependent like Ball and Doom, Tracer, Genji, etc. in unhealthy value exchanges.

What she does do is gatekeep half of the playable roster, especially in the solo queue environment.

Fr, as a Somba main I don’t. :joy:

That said, I very much enjoy playing against her - almost always a free win, for the entirety of OW2. :joy:

i think thats cool actually. ive been a sombra fan for a while. not with her release but like 2 years after and when they got rid of her timers. way back then she was a bit clunky for me since i would always mess up her translocate and stealth but when i got use to her i really enjoyed her.

with her virus rework i was kind of missing old sombra translocate and it was really weird how you passively stealth when not in combat. was all clunky but of course im use to it now. do i like it? yea sure but i do miss old sombra, AND i do understand the hate she gets now since a burst assassin. was really bad before the health buffs heh but she still has burst out of stealth which is a head scratcher from the devs if you think about it… burst damage for a stealth hero lol… she should be more of a utility dps since stealth but oh well

i still play her and i just let the haters hate hehe. im use to playing heroes that the general populace despises. playing widowmaker 24/7 the first 3 years of overwatch with voice/chat made me have a real thick skin since all the hate i would get. 24/7 hate and from your own team even when you were doing fine lol…then after i played moira. so yea i love playing heroes that tilt people. bunch of whiners anyways

oh…

my first widow video 7 years ago… (really 8 but youtube says 7)

But what is the trouble with 1 second silence every 9 seconds ?

Ow 1 sombra was great but many players complained.

She gatekeeps doom ball and zen. Maybe mercy? Widow? so like 3/40-5/40?

I mean if you think Mauga, Sigma, Illari, Moira, Bap, Ashe, Orisa, Symmetra, etc are worthwhile playing without being able to use their ults then sure.

Not to mention any Sombra even remotely worth their salt can spawn camp most squishies.

She completely gatekeeps several heroes, notably zenyatta and ball. If you’re playing zenyatta, not only do you not really have a chance against the sombra coming out of nowhere to kill you, but you can’t assist your hacked teammates because your harmony orb only heals them for 24 heals per second.

Ewww no. The only rework that felt remotely successful was pharah. Every rework has been atrocious at worst, highly divisive at best.

I dropped her in OW2. She’s not fun, let alone after this next rework.

They keep missing the mark. She had an ebb and flow with her prior iteration in OW1 before perma stealth and translocator. I wish they would have expanded on that.

You’re actually delusional if you think 5 second hack and free teamwipe EMP are more fun to deal with than modern sombra

As stands now, if I am playing any hero other than doomfist or wrecking ball, I would rather have sombra on the enemy team than

  • Cassidy
  • Genji
  • Hanzo
  • Mei
  • Junkrat (yes I know he’s free elo right now, I don’t care)
  • Bastion
  • Sojourn
  • Pharah
  • Soldier 76
  • Torbjorn
  • Tracer
  • Widowmaker

There will never be a worse hero that people complain endlessly about that sombra

Gross.

Yes let’s just ignore the buffs to her gun and her health pack and construct hacking and her ability to kill people while being dead. Yep…

Well of course she feels great to play… No one can see you! Lol, like, you’re the only hero in the game that just simply doesn’t have to worry about positioning AT ALL until you choose the perfect time at your own discretion to engage… And then you have a Get-Our-of-Jail card to use on a 6s CD to escape anytime you want… like, lol, it’s just a risk-free hero, I’m sure she feels great to play.

Sure, anyone can say she is “one of the fairest heroes” to play against… But she’s clearly the least fair DPS hero to play against… with Widow being arguably just as unfair at times, depending on how unpeakable she is.

You can name reasons why other heroes are unfair to play against and go through all of the tit-for-tat comparisons of different abilities, etc… But the bottom line is that Sombra is invisible, and therefore blindside suckerpunch cheapshots you… simply because she’s invisible. If you could see her, it’d be different. But you can’t. Once she blindsides you, you have a fair chance to kill her before she uses her free panic button escape, but being blindsided all match by a hero just makes Overwatch stupid… it’s the lack of fairness of that engagement that kills the game…

My opinion and your opinion differ. That’s perfectly fine. Neither of us get to claim we are “right” about an opinion.

The difference is, the majority of the playerbase agrees with my opinion and disagrees with yours.
