Sombra used to be a hard counter for Ball when she did bonus damage on hacked targets and hack duration lasted more than 1.5 seconds. She could basically delete the hamster by herself with one hack. But now she doesn’t do enough damage and the effect doesn’t last long enough before he can roll off or pop his shields. After her rework, I’d say the matchup slightly favors Ball because of his slam damage and much higher health pool.
D. Va and Winston are huge pains for me when I play Sombra.
All these smooth brain Sombras telling us what we already know like we haven’t made it perfectly clear it’s not a balance issue it’s a this character makes the game objectively worse and less enjoyable when picked issue.
I can instantly delete every Sombra I play against put it’s still a massive chore that heavily cuts into my enjoyment of the game to be constantly dealing with the crutchy fun police character
There’s no depth or skill expression when playing with or against Sombras it’s just the most tedious unfun game of Mexican wack a mole. Even when you do break her stealth or kill her she’s right back at it sooner than any other dps because she has the most forgiving cooldowns and cheesiest kit to ever exist.
That’s Sombruh’s main problem. promotes a very boring and tedious playstyle. Additionally, there are heroes who are not designed to play close to the main fight, as is the case with Ana. I am a low diamond and even when we are all together, she appears from behind and destroys you in a fraction of a second after a hack.
Another BIG problem this character has is the fact that a 3 SECOND cooldown ability is capable of completely negating a hero movility or 1 HOLE ULTIMATE, which should not be tolerated in a supposedly balanced game.
No it’s not. Under ideal conditions she has hacked the target and gets 25% damage boost while they are hacked. That’s 200 dps for that time. Then she has crits too giving her up to 400 dps (or 360 depending how they calculate it).
She can burn a hacked target within the first 0.75 seconds even if she misses some headshots, and more realistically in under 1s. During that time the target has no abilities and they have to turn to find her, by which time they have lost a huge chunk of their health already. In the human reaction time she already has a major upper-hand in any engagement.
She can apply virus before she leaves meaning the target can still die even after she transes out.
I don’t agree, but there are many different ways and tiers to playing Ball. Even in OW1, you could get around a Sombra (and almost any counter) by simply avoiding them and mostly playing where they weren’t, as you have the mobility and visibility to do so. To me, Sombra was/is only an issue when she hacks off your engage or disengage in a team fight, but many heroes can perform the same function. EMP can completely counter Minefield, though (and if you time it perfectly the Mines never even come out).
I fully agree here. I dislike D.Va more than Winston because she can spy check you almost anywhere for free and doesn’t have a reload, and a very low cooldown on Boosters.
She lost the bonus damage to hacked targets with her rework. That was part of her Opportunist passive and was removed. Unless you’re talking about additional damage from being virused?
this issue is, thats not an objective statement… your enjoyment and opinion of the game is just that… an opinion… so what you mean is she makes it subjectively worse, in your opinion… there are no facts on what you are trying to say, so it is impossible for it to be anything but a subjective matter. So how about you quit bashing one of my mains and suck it up, or move on to something you actually enjoy…
She’s a necessary evil for when Ball, Venture, Doomfist, etc won’t let you move or play the game. Stick with the team, land your shots. It’s easy. If you try to stick with the team with the people she counters, you’re letting them feast- and cc the whole team to hell and back… Whereas for sombras, it counters her hardcore. Oh, they also buffed bullet sizes, land your shots, no excuses.
you misunderstood me.
its an even matchup yes, but the skill ceiling required to win isnt even. you make one mistake as ball and you die. while sombra sits in the back of her team (preferably shielded by a dva matrix) and hacks you without any skill involved, thats whats frustrating. if you can make a character insanely vulnerable without really needing to outplay him then its just unfair. sombra basically puts a timer on balls head and he has to react and if you actually win that challenge you get a new one in 5 seconds. either they have to make the hack more skillful than pressing a button, limit the range even more or put a way bigger penalty on sombra getting damaged while hacking
This is all so objectively wrong… the biggest reason to use her previously was to hack health packs because she gained a stupid anount of ult charge off them. Tanks could give her 30% ult in iust a few seconds
She is broken for people who have bad mechanics, can’t peel, and can’t position well enough to be “grouped up” while helping take space… aka she’s broken for people with bad gameplay decisions and skill. She’s easily dealt with btw- and is NOT the insta win button. I don’t even main her- I’m using ashe and cassidy mostly on dps- and I insta delete sombra- or make her constantly cower away to keep my supports alive while i kill someone else.
Wasnt a rework. It was a straight up nerf…id personaly would say she only went through 1 rework. 2 if you count the stealth change as a rework but ehh thats pushing it.
You’re making vast assumptions that frankly aren’t true, I understand you are frustrated by Sombra yet seem to have no idea how she actually plays and works. A single Sombra isn’t shutting you down on Ball unless she’s smurfing from Masters+.
Sombra’s skill ceiling is extremely high when you consider engagement timings and what your team will do, when, esp without comms. I can 3,2,1 emote then EMP and get 5 people in it, and my team won’t push in and continue to poke, or wait for our 5th dead teammate to get back instead of engaging on the EMP while they’re halfway there. Even if they have ults.
This never happens. Or show me just ONE replay code where a D.Va is intentionally Matrixing a Sombra Hack. Sombra doesn’t play inside her team. If she is, you may as well be playing a different hero to get easier value. I see you’re Plat 3. You show me clips of you perfectly timing your hacks on Ball Slams and it destorying the Ball every time. It’s not actually skilless to time that in an engagement, and I’m not talking about doing it twice in a game. If Sombra truly took no skill her winrate would be much higher than 45-49%. You just hate her and that’s fine. Just say that with your chest instead of some weird argument like:
She is outplaying you if you are having an issue with a single Sombra. Again, unless she’s a smurf.
That timer is literally one second.
Same with every hero, almost every hero interaction in the game can be described by this.
But Sombra sucks, she’s sucked for a long time, and she doesn’t need nerfs. Very frankly, you need to get better/not get as triggered by her. She’s not good.
Again, I fully understand she’s frustrating. I simply don’t care anymore and reading every recycled Sombra complaint makes me care even less (make a truly genuine/honest effort to play her and try to win your games and you may start to understand). Every hero is frustrating. I hate how Widow works despite being able to eat her on Ball or Winston. McCAss gets more free value for nothing with Flash and FTH than Sombra does with Hack. Flash Fan is way more a death sentence than Hack for a dive hero. Even Ashe’s Coach means you can almost never engage on her properly unless she’s fully alone.
I completely get people hate Sombra. I’ve been one of you. My issue now is they very obviously don’t actually play her, and I’ve simply run out of the patience to care about ignorant and completely biased, uninformed opinions that are frankly just venty whining when it comes to this hero. The same happens for Hog, same for Moira, and even for Junkrat.
Make a true, valid (non-emotional) point and I’ll happily address it, most of this is just noise. Also, propose changes that don’t dumpster her and make her an asset to your own team, you can’t without almost turning her into Tracer or Mei.
"Invisibility, the way Overwatch implements it, is fine. The disadvantages are significant and balance out the advantages well!
Disabling abilities is also not a problem. It’s a soft CC, and you can still defend yourself.
The only real issue is the Virus. No one asked for it, yet we got it.
Something invisible that is lethal should not exist. The Overwatch 1 team understood this, which is why Sombra had a support role. But since Overwatch 2, there’s been a forced attempt to turn her into a DPS hero, which doesn’t match her identity and inevitably leads to the loss of it!"
