But the move has a cast time, plus the network latency of reporting it from your end to the server. This means on the sombra’s screen, they literally completed the hack before any visual indication of you even using the move. On your screen the hack completed before you even finished casting the ability and before any visual of the barrier was displayed. How is that fair that your takes priority when hers clearly finished first?
That’s not how her barrier animation works. When you hit your button. This effect goes off first: https://imgur.com/a/t3O74
At this point, the bubble is already on, absorbing damage before the animation even starts in first person. The bubble has two layers. The outer layer extends first. Which is visible in the still. Than the main one comes out of the gun.
If you slow it down frame by frame. 16 milliseconds in total happens between her first hand movement and hack text popping up. The first 8 milliseconds is the key press. Second 8 milliseconds is between the pulse animation and the hack text popping up. The actual cast time is 8ms. The barrier was on within the .1 grace period. That’s why it was allowed to complete and my barrier to engage. Coupled with all the extra junk with normal lag. That’s why characters shouldn’t have grace periods.
I see. That makes it a bit more clear. In that case I retract my statement, you are correct.
It’s actually pretty simple. They put more power into her hack, then they took it away. Back where we started.
Worse than where we started m8.
What I don’t understand is that everyone here yells, she was fine, she’s OP, she has no counter, and so on but every single time I choose her on any mode, all I hear is, sombra switch, why sombra, can you go tracer instead, gg sombra, report sombra, throwing.
She requires teamwork to make work. Its gonna be hard to find that in bronze especially lower bronze. It’s hard to find team work in high silver low gold to be honest. If you insist on playing her make sure your aim is good.
She doesn’t even get the EMPs anymore to make much use of whatever team work is there. A Hack to initiate is not nearly the same as a full team EMP.
What people are failing to see is with the cool down, it’s incredibly hard for her to have ANY impact in a team fight. All the bullets, projectiles, and spam flying around will constantly put her hack on the cool down. She relies on her hack, PERIOD. Her dmg output is not on par to the other DPS to compensate. So during a team fight, holding primary fire without being able to hack, you once again force either,
A. Her to be sitting on the side lines/outskirts and leaving the team once again 5 v 6 in every team fight. Which is what the entire buff was supposed to stop.
or
B. Just picking Soldier or a different dps entirely.
This whole idea of “she has to cloak and sneak around and use hack effectively” is great and all, but now without building ult of a health pack, she’s out of the team fights once again, putting her back to where she started, but in a worse position. Every team fight is going to leave that team with a Sombra handicapped because they don’t have her hack due to bullets/spam flying around and poor DPS compared to other DPS slots.
It’s incredibly, incredibly difficult to make yourself of any use in a team fight with D.VA holding primary fire and Moira orbs flying around. It just makes picking Sombra pointless again and back to being screamed at “SOMBRA PLZ SWITCH!” We literally did an entire 180 with this whole thing.
That’s why they buffed the rest of her kit.
But then they nerfed it. See I can play that game too
One thing.
They nerfed one, small thing.
You do realise that we still have the .65 second hack time right?
But cloak and translocate don’t impact a team fight, it disengages her, which is what the point of the whole buff was supposed to stop. Bring her out of the background and into the team fights so it’s not always 5 v 6 cause Sombra is 10 miles away on a pack somewhere.
Hack is the only thing that did and now it’s on a cool down. Her primary fire doesn’t compensate for having an entirely diff. char in the slot. She NEEDS hack + primary fire to do anything. At this point we’re back to just having a Soldier in her spot and her going back to the bottom again.
The cooldown is a measly 2 seconds.
Compared to every other cooldown, that’s still really small.
The only problem with Sombra currently is that hack LOS is now kind of buggy. It’s breaking when it never would have broken before. For instance, if you try to hack someone either while falling off a surface or from a thrown translocator, it will often break.
The 2 second cooldown is so insignificant I never really notice it. If you get interrupted while hacking, you either shoot them or find a better position. Her gun is really good now. Since I get to choose when I engage I usually win any 1v1s (and translocator is there if things go poorly).
Yes it is small, but every other ability on a cooldown doesn’t get shut down immediately from 1 dmg. That 2 seconds is critical because it’s 2 seconds EVERY TIME it’s cancelled and with all the spam/bullets flying around, it makes it sometimes it can’t be even used at all in a team fight. Imagine if Rein couldn’t firestrike while taking damage? Or Hanzo couldn’t scatter?
Yes other abilities have longer cool downs, but you can wraith form, or helix rocket, or Blink if you’re taking damage. Hack you can’t. As long as there’s a Moira orb out or a D.VA holding m1 hack basically doesn’t exist. And if you have to sit off to the side away from any danger just to use it, then you’re not in the team fight, which is back to where we started. Sombra sitting away from every team push.
But you’re forgetting to account for the 0.1s buffer.
It used to be 0.8 + 0.1 = 0.7s effective
Then it was 0.65+0.1 = 0.55s effective
Now it’s just 0.65 with instant LoS disconnect, which is just 0.65s.
This means the buff was only by 0.05s, which for a lot of people is less than their network latency difference. It’s almost a negligible difference, tbh.
They buffed one thing and nerfed it twice. So let’s call hack a push.
They got rid of health pack ult charge and replaced it with a ten% damage spread and some more hack Passives.
She was in the garbage before.
How is she in a good spot exactly?
Sombra is supposed to be a flanker, but that means she competes with both Genji and Tracer. And the fact of the matter is, they’re both much better at flanking than sombra is, even after the buffs to her weapon spread.
So when do you pick sombra then? well, when you want flankers, you don’t pick her. But she did have something special, EMP for pretty much every teamfight.
Now that she’s lost this, she doesn’t have anything. Point is, it’s not that Sombra’s bad, it’s just that she competes for team slots against 2 incredibly superior heroes.
No niche, and inferior to other flankers = Hero that’s a bad choice to pick.
i never thought of it that way.
Better gun, stronger Hack (if you ignore the nerfs i guess), stronger EMP, she’s no longer an EMP bot, and her ult is on par with every other ultimate.
Tracer’s meter is 1125 and Sombra’s is 1250. Even without healthpacks, it’s not hard for her to build EMP.
