Can someone tell me what does Sombra mean with the virus shes talking about? Did Talon make the solar tech ceremony thingy explode on purpose killing Illaris people? Or what virus is she talking about
I had to look up the interaction:
Sombra: Seems like the virus worked. How are you holding up?
Illari: sigh I’m trying not to think about it.
Sombra: Lo siento, chica. If there was another way, I would have found it.
No idea what Sombra’s talking about but this seems like a foreshadowing for some future lore

that is interesting… and very cool and speaks to sombra rather more sympatetic leanings which may come into focus now that she left talon… she does seam to be willing to work with soldier from one of the comics need to read up on more of them…
Here, let me explain. This is actually from the short story called Futures Past, which you can listen to from Soldier: 76’s voice actor here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kFSMbaufn8
In a nutshell, Illari found out that the Paqarina Research Group (which preserved the data of the Inti Warriors) had partnered with Oasis, and was scared that the latter would harm her future. Sombra, though, had commissioned a custom data virus sent on a drive. Soldier: 76 encountered Illari before they raided the lab at night. I’ll paste in the extended summary from the Overwatch Wiki on Illari’s story page:
| “ | It was your solar threading, wasn’t it? Yes. It was mine. It was… It was done, complete, perfect. And then the power just exploded back out of me. In that instant, they all died. And there was just… me. I’ve been over everything that’s left, and I can’t make any sense of it. But I know I can’t let Oasis steal what they were. Their legacy. I won’t. |

| ~ Jack Morrison and Illari discussing the solar threading ceremony |
Following the destruction of the Inti Warriors, the Paqarina Research Group—which still possessed much of the surviving data of the Warriors—fell on hard times. They partnered with the Oasis Scientific Collective, trading the Inti data for vital resources. Unwilling to let Oasis steal her people’s legacy, Illari staked out the facility Oasis had commandeered in Runasapi and formulated a plan to wipe the data.
Knowing she couldn’t bypass their mainframe security alone, she reached out to the hacker Sombra to request a custom data virus. Instead of delivering it herself, Sombra sent the vigilante Soldier: 76 (Jack Morrison) to Runasapi with the drive. Illari intercepted Morrison near the ruins of the Inti Warrior pyramid, initially mistaking him for a threat before he handed over the virus.
Realizing Morrison’s combat skills could change her odds of successfully infiltrating the heavily guarded Oasis lab, Illari asked for his help. Jack agreed, and the two executed a nighttime raid. Utilizing old Overwatch “rattler” grenades to generate the simulated sound of heavy gunfire, Jack successfully drew the perimeter guards out of position. This gave Illari the opening she needed to reach the fence, where she channeled her solar energy to send a spark from her fingertips that shorted out the perimeter’s lights.
Once inside the dark halls of the lab, Illari located the Oasis mainframe. She inserted Sombra’s drive, unleashing the virus and permanently deleting all the remaining data files pertaining to the Inti Warriors so Oasis could never exploit their power. Witnessing the final erasure of her people’s legacy brought her to tears, but she accepted the heavy burden, knowing it was the only way to protect their secrets.
| “ | Here. Energy readouts, footage from my solar threading. I don’t… know that it’s related to what happened to Overwatch. But if it furthers your mission, I can repay you for helping me. | „ |

| ~ Illari handing over the data drive |
Back at her hideout, Illari offered Jack a data drive containing the energy readouts and footage from her tragic solar threading explosion, believing the data might help his own investigation into the destruction of the Swiss Overwatch headquarters. Jack thanked her and warned that Oasis—and specifically Moira O’Deorain—would relentlessly hunt whoever destroyed their files. He gently suggested that she could leave Runasapi and stop holding a lonely vigil over her past, but Illari firmly refused, stating that this was her responsibility and she would manage on her own.
Oh, forgot to mention there’s a readable PDF version of that comic here. Overwatch - Futures Past
Very cool! So its based on a short story named “Future’s Past”. Interesting! ![]()
