So who’s buying a battle pass?

If you go to your career profile in game you can add up the total time played per role.

I initially been thinking that the battle pass would probably be like the SC2 battle pass and last 4-6 months for a total of 2-3 per year. Based on this, I had thought I likely would buy battle passes.

But when they announced that they would only last 9 weeks, that tells that:

  • I would feel like I am constantly shelling out more money.
  • I would spend so much time grinding unlock the different battle pass levels that the game would become unfun.
  • I might not complete the battle passes, so I wouldn’t feel like I’m getting good value for money.

Based on that, I don’t see myself buying battle passes. Maybe they’ll be dirt cheap and easy to complete, which might cause me to change my mind, but I don’t see myself paying $10 or more every 9 weeks to subject myself to an endless grind.

Knowing ActiBlizz, it happen wouldn’t be surprise… Or at least sell your number to some marketing company for some extra cash….

I’ll only buy battlepasses if there’s something cool for Lucio that season. If I can earn progress towards the next battlepass during the season like you can in COD then I’ll probably buy it.

It’ll probably be around £10 for a battlepass, and £10 every two months isn’t even that much. I spend more on sandwiches in a week.

Is that supposed to mean something? No offense, but you being gone won’t mean anything to anyone but you on this point… but it’s still free… for the first tier and most of PVP.

LOL yes, seven DLC characters… “out to dry”… bs. More maps, cosmetics, etc. for a good three years at least… more than fair. OW was not touted as a live-service game btw.

I don’t believe the devs wanted OWL, it was forced on them. Jeff advised against it.

Simple fact is they were in a box-release mentality, and in their mind by releasing DLC characters and then slowing down to prepare for the next “box” was in their mind the right thing…

I am vehemently against the trend for predatory monetization of videogames that is in full swing at this time in history; but I’m also, paradoxically, mulling over the thought of buying the Watchpoint pack for my main account for the exact reason stated above.

I was just responding back, did you want me to ignore you…?

Honestly I couldn’t care less if you did or didn’t. My world would be unaltered.

Then why did you make a dig about me caving in and playing Overwatch 2? I’m confused. You obviously cared if you started it…

it’s been years since i was willing to pre-purchase anything.

No I will not spend money on something so vague, i might when i see if the devs met their words, because that is what i can expect moving forward.

Won’t be paying for a battle pass or playing the game. 5v5 already had me on the fence since it sucks, but they went full ActiBlizz with this monetisation so I’m out once they delete OW1.

buying the pass loses the incentive to play, if they lock certain content behind a payable wall, I don’t play the game.

It just depends on what is in it for me, I just want to see some cool skins/emotes/charms for my favorite heroes and then I might buy it depending on what those are.

It depends on a lot of factors.

  1. What’s in it?
  2. How much is it?
  3. How much does it cost to complete it if you run out of time?
  4. How long does it last?
  5. what modes can it be completed in? Arcade? Comp? The upcoming PVE mode?
  6. Will there be a separate PVE BP?
  7. Can you earn store currency in the BP towards another BP?
  8. What’s available in the store?
  9. Will there be only one BP or three role specific BP to choose from?
  10. Can you store an unfinished BP to continue later?

TLDR; Yes probably, unless they mess it up pretty badly. Overwatch is the only game I’m currently playing that’s a live service. If I can trudge through COMP for golden guns to complete certain gold theme looks that I then don’t wear, I can do this

Some of the main things I’ve been requesting for the last few years…

Armor rework to a flat 30%. Less overall sustain. Reduced healing and increased support utility. Moira rework with increased skill expression. Hero that throws then electromagnetically retracts a weapon. Brig SB rework with reduced CD and increased distance. Less reliance on teammates and ults. Dae-Hyun support. PvE episodes (okay I never actually requested this but always wanted it). Mei or Brig bikini skin. :eyes:

OW2 is giving me almost everything I want. I’ll buy every BP as long as I don’t feel they’re so predatory they should be avoided on principle. Blizz has been good to me lately.

I dont insist on being a F2P player, Im happy to spend a bit of money if I think it’s worth it or if I think the Devs deserve it.

I will however, probably not be buying a battle pass because they are usually terrible value and I find them predatory and anti-consumer. Only ever bought battle passes for SMITE where you use a semi-premium currency, most of which is refunded through Battle Pass rewards and the rest can be made up through log in rewards, so if you’ve got time to play, its effectively free.

If it’s only cosmetics then I won’t buy it at all, I don’t care about things that are non-essential for the gaming experience. How my characters look is of no consequences for my enjoyment of the game.

I will be hesitant to pay for anything with Blizzard these days, Diablo Immortal just showed their true colours and I don’t want to support a developer that is so cold and predatory in their monetisation scheme.

Agreed, you can’t even look on it playing the game outside of emoting.
