Regardless of where it comes from, I just find it weak writing when you always have to rely on “master plan”. The writers try desperately to be “clever”, making it transparent and dull. What’s the fun in a story when you always know that there is a “plot twist” somewhere were the writers have deliberately avoided mentioning things that might foreshadow the event and suddenly just spring it out of nowhere?
Except in Shadowlands, the villain just did villain stuff because he loved us so much and wanted to protect us from an even bigger villain.
Blizzard exists in the OW world and is big enough to fund a massive theme park. This implies the company is similar to the likes of Disney.
And like Disney, Blizzard in the OW world likely controls numerous media outlets.
Flat out, Overwatch coming back would be great for ratings, as it would lead to more conflict and war with established antagonistic organizations like Talon.
So it would be in Blizzard’s best interests to have OW come back.
Problem is, Overwatch lacks funding as it is now a rogue group no longer officially recognized or connected to world governments.
So OW world Blizzard secretly funds Overwatch as a way to get more ratings and solidify their media dominance.
This results in the Blizzard CEO getting a lot of money and going power hungry for world domination.
Overwatch, now controlled by Blizzard, becomes a shell of itself. Can the heroes find the truth and break free?
Run around the world, pick up randos for the team (like Junkrat and Roadhog) and run around some more. I doubt there’s even gonna be some big final battle with DF or any other Talon boss cause the whole thing is gonna be about releasing additional mission packs as DLC later. Even if you blow up Talon HQ all higher ups gonna pull a Dr. Claw and be like: “We’ll get you next time, Overwatch. Next time.”.
Talon and Null Sector will combine into a new super evil group, along with any other factions the devs come up with.
This would mostly happen for gameplay reasons, so we can have multi-faction enemy combinations.
