So now that community maps are a thing

I agree, hopefully they will eventually add a map creator to OW

I’m pretty sure there is no separate map editor software they can give us. They would have to release all the software required to make the game. Maybe some of it depends on their network infrastructure to work (for like shared assets).

Ohhhhhh I memmbeerrr

It’s nice to see that you guys are somewhat open to community content being added to the game. It would be awesome to see a map creator released to the public. Stuff like this contributes to the longevity to other games. Think of the potential amount of content, it would be endless.

Some of the most influential maps in all of the gaming industry were made by passionate people in their basement. Examples being Dust 2 from Counter-Strike and2fort from Team Fortress (back when they were still mods of Half-Life and Quake)

And I would say if the feed back for Talantis, you could keep it in the game. I get not wanting to make it canon, but you could keep keep the layout and not the theme.

cool, now give us the map editor

Are we ever gonna get better Blizzard presence here on the Forums, or should we expect the current communication stream to be here for awhile?

In fairness, it was also a side project some devs worked on for fun in their free time.

I think we know the all too depressing answer to that.

Their marketing team and even useless (forum) mods don’t even come to the forums, after all.

This would be SO awesome! Giving creative ability to the talented community members is one of the best parts of gaming. Just look at Halo Infinite’s Forge. Players have many gripes with Halo Infinite but everyone loves the Forge creations.

We agree it is awesome. But we want to add to the game as well. We’d literally make the game FOR YOU.

Personally, I would PAY for a map editor, just because it is a lot of fun for me to actually create something unique. But yea, I can understand that this software they use internally is a property of a CORPORATION and nobody in dev team have a right to release these tools into public access even if they genuinely support this idea, otherwise they will jsut end up in a court and will have to compensate TENS OF MILLIONS to the corporation, because development of such tools costs something close to that, I believe.
Also making a ‘community’ version of those tools would cost a lot in terms of dev team resources and it is an unreliable money investment for a corporation.
Probably the only thing we can count on is that they open some kind of a program for a a limited amount of most creative and talented enthusiasts would would be able to work with their software REMOTELY in some safe way that would make sure they won’t get any pieve of corporation property.
But I also doubt that anybody in Activision Blizzard King corporation will even read all these ideas ever.

I think we will get it in the future but I think Blizz has a lot to do before that

so can we expect another live stream for another community made map? i’m dying to see another one if they are going to do another.
