forums are just doomers. I have never seen the overall opinion here lean towards positive, not one single time
True, but it limits growth of game. If OW2 wants to be more, than OW1, not less, it has to be “newbie-friendly” for the most part, and I do not see any signs, that it’s even considered.
Oh yea, the forums are absolutely awful. This place is a magnet for trolls with alt accounts & doomsayers who get a kick out of bashing the game for some reason. I guess they have nothing better to do with their time
You mean there’s actual discussion on Reddit? I always see it as “Baby’s First PotG” or are we talking about compOW?
I think it’s just that the forums have less people and anybody wanting real discussion went elsewhere.
I wonder how many people post here total on average 'cause it’s always the same handful of people in every thread.
They’re basically banking on the PvE story mode to do that. Only problem is that it looks like PvE won’t even be there at the release of “2” and is gonna show up later. The PvP part is never gonna reach that “opening the can for the first time” feeling without an actual actual sequel that completely starts new.
And yet there’s just as many “OW2 looks awesome” and “great changes” threads.
Yup. Whenever I did go to OW reddit (not the OW memes ones, mind you) it’s full “check out this amazing play I got” with 69K votes.
Bingo.
Weird thing is that this non-casual game going more into the non-casual route still surprises people. Amazing.
Hahaha … no. No god no, not at all.
No FR, take a tour there and come back here and read again the doomsayers. Its not even on the same division. Like they say something looks bad there … and in the forums “OW is dead”. Like the most extreme takes ever.
Now there are! Partially thanks to me (Someone has to keep the lights on around here) But prior to this most recent reveal you’d have to be living under a rock to not see how awful this place is 90% of the time
Twitter seems mixed to me and reddit just seems annoyed at the changes.
5v5 is more casual; it’s basically just team deathmatch what are you talking about lol
And reddit is much, much worse than the forums from my experience…
Looking down the OW reddit and there is like 1 actual conversation to 100 POTGs. All the OW reddit is is POTG clips.
i was used to have reddit and i have twitter too, but in reddit i posted my thread about zen is officially a troll pick hero and then people saying that ‘‘nah hes strong i am a gm zen’’ my god overwatch redditors just live for downvote everybody if a comment is negative but talks about the truth but still downvoted, because i’m sure their self esteem is probably shaming someone with no self esteem and also with full of fears.
The primary source of marketing for a game post-release is content creators. How many bronze CCs can any of us name? People want to watch GMs and T500s that inspire and teach them, and players of that caliber often don’t want to invest significant time in a game that doesn’t allow them to express their skill. That goes for PvE as well. The biggest Dark Souls CCs aren’t struggling casuals; they’re experts doing hitless boss kills and speedruns.
This is precisely why, starting with the rise of GOATS, CCs have begun ditching OW in favor of titles like Valorant and Apex which value personal skill at high level play. And this is why OW’s popularity is a small fraction of what it once was.
Completely true, but the marketplace and community have changed. We’re in a post Valorant, post Apex world, and if OW1 were released today in its launch state, I believe it would be DoA. And if OW2 were released with no hero limits and no sense of balance, there’s no denying that it would be the very death of this IP.
Even the definition of a causal OW player has evolved, as many of the people who came to the game as casuals went on to play comp. Even many of those who don’t still take their personal performance seriously and are passionate about balance. I do think comp and especially OWL were introduced before the game was ready for it though.
