I dont see a reason why she should be nerfed.
Why is Mei suddenly the flavor of the month?
Wasn’t she considered a throw pick for like, a majority of the games lifespan?
I don’t have a dog in this fight but I am compelled to point out that Mei’s m1 isn’t a root. It’s a snare with a stun aftereffect.
To be rooted is to be rooted to the ground.
Junkrat’s trap is a root. Mei’s slow is a snare (as most slows are).
Yeah, roots traditionally work the other way around where they stick you to the ground and then gradually release you, but Junk’s trap releases you immediately.
It’s really just semantics but I have weird OCD triggers and terminology is one of them lol, I’m really sorry it’s an actual compulsion, I can’t help myself.
Just make Mei a fortnite character where she can’t stun with primary but she can build different constructs than just a wall. Ez
Complaints about Mei have always been present. She didn’t get the nickname Satan for nothing.
But now that she’s being used quite frequently in OWL by the best Overwatch players in the land, playing for a 5 million dollar prize mind you, people feel more justified in their complaints. If she’s being played for money then she isn’t a throw pick, and if she isn’t a throw pick then she must be OP.
That’s the forums for you.
She IS going to get nerfed?
Are you speaking from some authority? Are you on the balance team and leaking info?
Cause if not…you’re just speculating
From purely game design and balance standpoints that’s probably fine, but from gameplay and business for a hero to be destined for remaining niche is not the best outcome. Doubly so when so many resources are invested into this hero (probably the highest count of unique skins in the game, cinematic, animation reworks, unique mechanics etc).
DPS class is bloated as a whole and already has plenty of niche options. Meanwhile tank class is lacking, especially off-tanks - we have only 3 of them! Mei is played more like an off-tank than a DPS already. Moving her to the tank class will give her way more space to be played.
Almost exact same justification is misused so often. “Hanzo is only used because of Grav”, “Mercy is only used to pocket Widow”, “D.Va is only used to support dive” etc.
The other explanation for recent Mei popularity can as well be to mimic 3-tank comps with 2 tank limit. If you’ve watched OWL S2 Mei was used semi-regularly with GOATS replacing D.Va (nicknamed “snoats”) even without Hog/Orisa on the field.
Having overlapping roles when there is no role lock is totally fine, but with 2-2-2 it may cause issues.
I hope she gets nerfed into F tier
I believe it’s unavoidable considering how much the community is whiny for her nerf. If anything, i hope they hold on for as long as they have with widow.
I normally roll my eyes when people start throwing around the term “Sheeple” but the sheer speed with which people have started to claim Mei (and even Reaper) are OP because they were being used in OWL for 5 minutes… Well…
Well in my opinion I believed her whole Freeze mechanic should be deleted off the face of Earth, but I guess “rEwOrKs = bAd” and “ShE’s gOiNg tO LoSe hEr BeAuTiFuL IdEnTitY”, so yeah let’s not change anything and leave the game at its frustrating and unhealthy state for the sake of ““uniqueness””…
Mei is legitimately an off-tank. She really ought to be moved to the tank category, and I run a lot of Mei (this sudden fuss is hilarious to me btw).
While you may not like the mechanic, everyone finds mechanics they detest. I personally find Genji and Tracers excessive mobility not to mention outright flying by Pharah to be a problem in a game composed of ground based normal movement characters. Remove freeze is fine, but lets remove blink and double jump and flight too just to be fair to everyone’s sensitivities.
But she does the tank job, not DPS job. And does it well:
- Occupies space for her team.
- Brawls with enemy tanks on equal footing.
- Denies enemy squishies from getting close.
- Eats damage that would kill any squishies for prolonged time.
- Peels for teammates and blocks enemy ults.
- Uses CC/Zoning ult to initiate team fights and secure space.
At the same she is ill-suited for DPS job which is applying pressure from range/flanks, breaking barriers and securing kills. She cannot effectively do things that you pick DPS for.
Mei is a tank in DPS line-up. Even her weapon is more in line with tank class by its nature and ease of use. The only thing that makes her non-tank is 150 less HP and smaller hitbox.
Till now the people who hated Mei had nothing to stand on because she was rarely played and showed up in even pro level play once in a blue moon and even then only for stalling.
I just hope we don’t start to get pro’s agreeing with the new whiner wave (ag-Ree-ing, lol I am funny). Nice to hear that one of the top WB’s is saying Mei is fine.
I expect they will. Angry pro kids carry a lot of weight with Blizzard, they have to protect the characters and their beer money incomes they are used to.
Because they are the ones that actually have to contest the point while the DPS play Deathmatch.
I am sorry but can you read? Wait wait is english your first language?
I AM 100% SURE THEY NEVER SAID OR GAVE HIM SUCH THING
He literally get a passive that lets him get knocked back less.
