If we’re talking about just the character design then, to be honest, Baptiste’s new design is really, really bad and no one even talks about it. At least Bastion’s hat is cute and serves a purpose, Baptiste was just straight up murdered.

The hat is cute, but I’m not liking the homogenisation of the mechanical characters in OW2. Bastion used to be sharp and chamfered, but they’ve softened him to look more like D.Va’s meka. Bastion’s body isn’t supposed to look cute and approachable, that’s the point of his character; he’s a cold war machine but he acts cute and innocent and has a little bird friend, he shows that you are not defined by your form or what you were built to do and this softening of his appearance is really diluting that.

Bastion very obviously broke through his own programming and is able to learn and feel much like us. Have you not seen the animated short from way back? If he’s able to grasp the concept of PTSD, I’m pretty sure wearing a hat like a human isn’t to upset.
