So is there a real way to escape elo hell or no?

I feel like “elo hell” is just an excuse to not actually focus on self improvment. I’m not dismissing how difficult it may feel to climb, and I’m not saying you’re not getting bad teammates, but you’re where you’re at because the game thinks that’s where you belong:

  1. You don’t improve on a win. All you do is get sr. Lessons are learned through failure. It’s okay to lose as long as you learned something about yourself
  2. Play to win, that’s fine. But also don’t play for sr. Play for improvment only. And to have some fun. There’s ALWAYS room for it. It’ll take the time it takes but if you play like that you’ll climb eventually.
  3. Play like the rank you think you deserve. The game isn’t going to give you a pass because you grinded out your mechanics. There’s something you’re doing that gold players do. Start playing like a plat or diamond player.
  4. smurfs are only bad for people who are only playing for fun. It ruins it for them. For people who are playing to get to those ranks, if you can’t beat a smurf then you don’t deserve to be there.

Let me stop you right there mate.
If you want to climb, you have to do this things in order:

  • Realise what is needed to win in your current rank. (so yeah it depends on where you are right now)
  • Educate yourself to look at the whole picture and identify the tactic/heroes that will be more effective against the enemy at a given map/point/time
  • Be versatile and realise that OW is not an MMO where you “level up” your hero. Its a game where you HAVE to be using the most appropriate tool to win. If you dont know how to use said tool properly, its on you to learn.
  • Look at the replays, leave your ego aside and everytime you die, ask yourself why and if you were where you should have been positioned.

Besides that, having 2 friends to do a 3 stack is great because your team play will be more consistent and you will eliminate one of the top factors that make you lose games: Random team mates.
Having someone else from a better rank look at your replays for coaching will boost your knowledge and awareness a lot too.

Good luck.

This has a lot less to do with me,and a lot more to do with my widow maker not getting a single kill and dying to ball every 5 seconds and not switching.

Deflecting blame is not going to give you SR mate, thats another fact for you.
Heres a bonus fact: You are not the only one.
You are not having a “special bad luck” or “special team mates”, we all play the same game. We dont have a VIP access etc. Everything happens to everyone so if you dont climb, look at the previous comment and get on it.

New account with someone to pocket or carry you.

yes, you have to become bso good and learn from all your mistakes that you carry the shi**er forum dwellers on your team every single game. and im not kidding, you have to become a smurf in your own rank

You will be equalled out. If your MMR improves, the MM will find better enemies or worse allies at that SR.
You will have to hard-carry every single game to climb, which is really hard if you are not at least 3 ranks above the rank you are playing in.

They changed the MM to make equal matches because people complained about stomps, since then the ladder has been stuck in cement. I have 4 accounts and can’t even climb easily on my lowest account, which is 1000 SR below my main.

Read about a crazy experience I had, which I base this information on:

Thats not how comp works. If im in gold im gonna find +/- my sr to a certain extent. They aren’t gonna find a diamond player because I popped off a few times.

I hated comp before for the same reasons I think im just not gonna play. I might just uninstall the game anyway and then see what overwatch 2 looks like in a couple years.

Its so disappointing when all your good stats go up and your bad stats go down but it literally doesn’t make a difference. It doesn’t matter how well you play if your Moira dps their back line solo and then dies making it a 5v6 but then oh wait your other dps never uses their ult at a good time and isn’t able to kill anyone.

After 5 years of genji learning all the animation cancels and combos and increasing accuracy and getting better blades and finding better positioning means literally nothing. Not really interested in becoming really good just for fun.

Its crazy because the elo I play at I destroy in qp all the time. And on ps4 and pc I just constantly murder people at my elo lol like even when I was stuck on ps4 at times, I was unstoppable as reaper/pharah just getting so many kills and so much damage every single game but not able to climb certain seasons there either.

Its just annoying putting in all that effort to get better but it doesn’t matter because you’re playing at the same elo as a widowmaker who goes to the exact same spot when she dies every 5 seconds to the same exact characters and we lose because she got 1 kill all game.

But I think its for the best to just give up. I havent liked their balancing or comp in general in ages and im not gonna put hours into practice every day and go absolutely bonkers on the m/k just to not climb lol. I go so hard some games my fingers absolutely kill me when I’m done but nope doesn’t matter cuz all supports wanna play dps and no one else switches when countered etc etc

and there is going to come a point that if genji isnt what your team needs or is hard countered, your gonna lose.

your not carrying, your doing well despite losing. and… its your fault. even more so as a one trick because its not that you wont switch, even worse, you cant. often what your team needs is an OK hitscan or even mei to cover a weakness. further, the team isnt required to go anna just to support YOU.

i have this happen all the time as tracer, especially if im paired with a genji or sombra. i have great stats and we are losing. switch to mcree or soldier and poof, win.

I used to be 900 SR and am now in plat/gold having peaked in diamond. It’s completely possible to rank up on your own.

Nah not even a little my fault. How’s it gonna be my fault when I’m the only one using ults? How’s it fault when tank goes to point solo and dies instantly over and over? While brig is in their spawn and uses her ult to flank them and then instantly die?

Yeah so much I need to work on as genji when brig throws her ult away.

Yep, exactly.
Pre role queue I got to masters playing ball.

I got bored playing tank and decided to lock Ashe every match. Obviously my dps isn’t as good as my tank, and I dropped to low plat/high gold.

Role queue came in, and all my roles got locked at gold. Can I climb back to masters with tank? (Or any role for that matter)
No, and I’ve been stuck in gold for season after season.

So according to the game I’m a masters player…but also so bad I can’t get out of gold.

Climbing below diamond is more about the luck of the draw than actual skill, unless of course you’re a pro or have hours and hours to grind away trying to get lucky and get half decent teammates.

Yeah, again tonight i won 3 games in a row, next 3 it was me (high silver) and bronze players vs silvers and golds on enemy team with a VAST skill difference. I just cant do it anymore, the moment i think I’m finally climbing Matchmaker sh-ts on me. I’ve uninstalled, good luck with this sh-t show of a game guys.

What elo hell are you talking about? Where are you stuck at? I haven’t been below platinum on any of my accounts and it took me like 2 hours to get to diamond with this account: see profile. There’s a 100% guaranteed way to escape “elo hell” and it’s called:

Git gud.

Lmao the typical “it’s not me it’s my team!” You’re not climbing because you don’t know how the game works and you can’t acknowledge your own mistakes. You mention gold medals and high elims but that means nothing if you can’t win the game…
most lower level players don’t climb up because they refuse to acknowledge their mistakes and improve from them. Instead they shift the blame onto their teammates :man_shrugging:t3: Get goooooooooooooood

Solo q, no, otherwise yes.

Nope, solo queued from gold (when I first got the game on pc) to masters.

Sorry I didn’t clarify, I’m on console. Without mkb.

Yes, you have to individually improve and play better, vs expecting your teammates to be better and carry you.
Another tip is to stop playing a imaginary game in your head where everyone positions correctly, ults correctly and is a top 500 - but play the game you are in - develop game sense and adapt.

Your tank aint pressing W - flank enemy backline and force the enemy to split attention or fall back, I dunno, be creative.

3rd tip: post a replay code on OverwatchUniversity subreddit and they’ll review, coach you and explain to you why you are stagnating properly.

How does that decide if you can solo climb or not?
