Just a reminder for some folks that the issue of lootboxes in terms of legislation was never a matter of P2W videogames and greedy companies - those are things players dont like but have zero bearing on these decisions. It doesn’t matter if you as a player are okay with it since it’s just cosmetics vs game advantages. That’s not the point.
The point is that some countries are starting to categorize lootboxes in the style of Overwatch as gambling, which means the game has to change in those areas - either by dropping lootboxes as a transaction thing, or by increasing the game’s rating to account for it being classified as gambling.
As far as personal opinions go, I don’t find it a big deal as long as its only cosmetics, but I definitely see it as an overly greedy practice. It’s WoW’s RNG loot on steroids and with a cashgrab scheme backing it.
Take any event with new skins - realistically, a player is unlikely to play enough in the short period to even earn enough credits for a single new skin. If they have enough, it’s because they consistently play between events. So basically, every single event is a giant surge of them banking on players relying on cash money $$$ to gamble on boxes.
