So bye to tank players next patch

Dunno why they needed to buff Torb. He was probably one of the most balanced heroes in the entire game, why do the devs feel the need to mess that up?

Yeah that’s an odd one. I never felt like torb was under-powered. He’s not a versatile hero like the hitscans but he’s really strong on certain maps.

I don’t know about NA but in OCE I have seen people flame DPS when they pick torb on attack. So maybe this will help alleviate this toxicity and the general mentality of torb only being used on defence.

Typical stress tests by game devs are done on servers; the OW devs decided to try it on their tank players. :+1:

So what sounds fun to you? Shooting Shields all day every day?

It’s either shoot shields all day or die instantly to burst damage spam. It’s lose-lose.

I would take the latter. At least you dont have to pray that your Tanks are the rare breed that love playing Shields every game.

They play in OQ and QPC now.

None of the exp changes will reduce double shields. It will actually increase the use.

There are a lot of heroes that either ignore or break double shields with no issue. They don’t get played because hit scan is so strong that they perform better even against double shields.

And double shields gets played because it is the best tactic against hit scan.

And to add to the issue hit scan also tends to destroy a good number of the heroes that can bypass/wreck double shield comps.

In the end, hit scan is driving double shields. Cowboy is being buffed, so will be used even more than he already is. Junkrat is being net nerfed so will be played less. This is going to drive more double shield comps trying to deal with the Cowboy. We are going to see an increase in double shields if this goes live.

If you really want to reduce double shields the answer is nerf hit scan. Most prominently Cowboy and Soldier. If they got played less double shields would be both less effective and less needed. Which would translate to less play.

It was hard enough to get rewarded for your skill shots after they decreased his primary target fire by over 66% in size a while ago - I had practiced hitting a pharah mid air with my friend for hours and hours, now? it’s all pointless, between the changes they’ve made to his bounce/primary fire none of the muscle memory is worth a damn anymore.

I’m sick and tired of learning how to play heroes only to have to relearn how to play those same heroes just because some dev who clearly has never played them before thought ā€œIDK, maybe this will be good?ā€ and made a change to them that will likely stay in the game forever, because Blizzard is notoriously bad at walking back mistakes.

It’s like this ~

If you have strong hitscans that can delete someone if they’re able to see them for less than half a second, then people MUST stay behind shields in order to survive ANY amount of encounter with these strong hitscans.

If you have medium hitscans that need to track someone for at least a whole second and shoot them that whole time to kill them, (imagine soldier) then that person can potentially play WITHOUT a shield because peeking an area without protection isn’t a guaranteed death sentence.

There are a lot of heroes where peeking is a guaranteed death sentence, which means ultimately the higher up the ladder you go the more required shields become just so you can live long enough to even -have- a fight. Otherwise the hitscans will delete you before you even get close enough to use your own weapons/abilities.

Hitscans need to be a certain amount of ā€˜weak’ so that other people can literally exist on the board long enough to also play the game, otherwise the game is just lopsided.

Probably not forever. After a few years in the trash tier the Devs will wonder why he hardly gets played. They will start talking about possible fixes. And he will get a rework in OW3.

Both McCree and Soldier cant 1 shot people peeking the corners

There are still tank players? Well, I mean are there still ā€œtanks who want to tankā€ -players? Guess these pseudo DPS fat tank players are a different breed.

I keep trying to learn tank just for something new to do, but the situation feels so horrible - even if you’re doing a good job and holding the front line, battling people out at the choke, your DPS does something stupid and whoop, there’s no one peeling for the healers? They’re all dead now? And now you’re dead now too? every freakin’ time.

There’s no amount of skill I can bring as just a singular tank to regular games that lets me control a match. The only role I can even get close to doing that is DPS, and even then it’s rare because the games all feel so lopsided these days. One game I’ll be on fire the whole match with all golds, slaughtering the whole team and masterfully manipulating them - the next I can’t even get one kill for some reason and it feels like my team is literally just standing around doing nothing because they never manage to get a kill either, which just leads to an all around crappy game experience for all involved.

I think almost everyone will agree that double shield is bad for the game. For most people, double shield is not fun to play against or with it. I don’t know why the devs didn’t experiment to see how the game would be like with one shield tank and one off-tank.

Two tank players queue for the role. If one of the player picks a shield tank, the other shield tanks will get greyed out. So the other tank players will need to choose the off-tanks. Seems like a simple fix for double shield problem, rather than doing something as drastic as 1-2-2. I know double shield wasn’t the major reason they’re switching to 1-2-2 but I’m sure it’s part of it.

We had had a meta with Sigma/Hammond and people still complained frequently. The same happens to all tanks.

I didn’t claim he could 1 shot. He can still kill most heroes from range very, very quickly. It takes 3 body shots for him to kill a 200hp hero. That can happen in 1 second. Or 1 head shot + 1 body shot, which is .5 secs.

To put that in perspective:
At just 30m that is roughly as fast as it would be for a single Pharah rocket to hit. In other words he can kill her in the time it takes her to shoot him once, not including head shots. And she doesn’t have the luxury of seeing the incoming shot and dodging it.

That is faster than Echo can kill him, even if she lands everything on him.

That is roughly the same amount of time it would take the experimental Junkrat to kill (assuming hits and not being flashed) Cowboy inside that 15m distance, with the damage everyone thinks is so high. And Cowboy can do it at greater distance and more reliably.

Soldier can kill close to the same amount of time, just a bit longer. Also at distance.

There is a reason they are played as often as they are.

What if you get two players who only play on shield tanks? It is one thing for a person to click one hero you want before you can. Having one person clicking faster locking out multiple heroes you may want to play is just going to lead to a bad experience for the tank players.

Bold of you to assume anyone is playing tank anymore for a good experience.

And that’s why this is probably not going to work. Even if they divided the tank role into shield tank and off-tank, that’s only going to create an additional problem by lengthening the queue time for everyone. Maybe if tanks had more heroes, the greying out method might work but it probably still won’t because of the smaller tank playerbase.

You should play McCree in real matches to get the real perspective. If you peek corners and getting deleted by him, that is just either you are moving in a very predictable pattern and move too far away from cover, or the McCree player is just a tier above.

They already revert pretty much most of the buffs on his primary fire, and no one can really complain about being 2, 3 shot and couldnt peek the corners because of McCree’s primary fire now.
