How can you not see this? Numbers do matter. Why should someone on one account suffer a much lower MMR/SR ranking because they get shifted down due to alts?
See that’s where we differ in opinion. I think the benefits to matches having alts, and giving players a legitimate option to not throw games offpicking, outweighs any cosmetic inflation/deflation to ranks. But I get your take–thanks for bringing up a valid point to enrich this discussion.
As a complete aside, a very long time ago I envisioned a system where players could “pre-declare” which hero(es) they intended to tentatively play, which would allow the game’s MMR to more accurately calculate fair matches more often in a one account system. It would have trade-offs for sure, but such a system really could help do away with the need for alts.
Your reasons for why people “legitimately” Smurf makes no sense. You can just play quickplay if you want to practice a new hero…
Alts are still fine, but it will take more effort to have them. As long as it “slows” the smurfs a bit, its a worthy trade off.
I think its understandable to have a single alt account, but I think its a better decision for the game to only allow 1 account per number.
I don’t blame smurfs for my rank. I blame smurfs for completely ruinning how fun a match is. When you get a smurf that’s basically it. Nothing matters, just how much they want to try hard. Like even in plat you can MAYBE work around a masters or low gm smurf MAYBE if you get lucky but you’re esnetially playing 5v6. And just like playing in actual 5v6 when you get a leaver sure you could win but it’s not gonna be any fun.
If there is more than 1 smurf on one team just gg that’s it the match is irrelevant it’s unwinnable. To be clear, I’ve only obviously gotten multiple smurfs in one game that I can think of, it was a smurf sombra and tracer. And they absolutely rolled us together. Im not mad about losing sr, im mad that I wasted my time.
It’s easy, you can do it from your battle.net account settings. You remove it from one account and then add it to the other. Just did it yesterday.
This one doesn’t make sense. I agree multiple accounts should be allowed to be linked to a single phone number. But that only works if 1 account ban applies to all of them preventing throwing/toxicity/smurfing on some of your accounts but not all. The only way to prevent this is to punish the owner by applying bans/suspensions to all their accounts at once. So if 1 account is false banned they all would be.
Otherwise SMS is a waste of time.

Didn’t get much out of it? It’s just to get your fundamentals in place so you aren’t deadweight in competitive. If you’ve got good fundamentals and good game sense, you should be fine.
And if you aren’t fine and start losing, then you just accept the fall because that’s just how competitive works. If you can’t keep up, you fall. Just sounds like you’re making excuses to play comp.

I have alt, cause I main support and as high level, I was bullied and accused of throwing, if I ever picked dps - which I suck at.
Alt was meant for my dps play (outside of comp only) - I got matched with people of similar skill and nobody was bordershaming me. I invested into a few OWL skins there…how am I suppose to accept, that I can´t use that account now? There was no rule against alts and they happily took my money, when I bought it.
I get that people hate people, who ruin matches, are toxic, throw games and stomp on low levels - but this was not my case. And many other alt users are harmless like me. Will they refund us?? At least for those skins?

I had awful fundementals. I only knew how to take aggressive positions and hit shots.
After years away, I couldn’t hit shots anymore so I had to actually learn the game again.
These fundementals weren’t exactly something that’s easy to pick up in QP games. Comp games helped me learn a lot more.
And you’re saying that it’s better to throw games in high SR and ruin them until I hit low SR rather than making a new account and placing where I belong in right out the gate? That seems… Really weird.

Not throw, play quickplay to get fundamentals down and then play the game seriously. If you lose, you deserve to lose because you’re not that rank anymore. You could also try playing something easier than your one trick target if that’s not working because it’s Widow.
You could naturally improve on your account, or you could make excuses to smurf.
I’d be fine with this.
However if one account gets banned, they all get banned.

Yes, I CLEARLY DIDNT DESERVE THAT RANK. O M G. That’s the whole point of this. Me playing on that account would’ve literally just resulted in me ruining games for other people.

It’s smurfing because you’re an experienced player being placed in unexperienced lobbies intentionally. Literally smurfing.
It’s just excuses, whether you want to admit it or not. Even if you don’t fit into the highest rank you achieved, there’s no chance you are suddenly 4 tiers below that. Game sense doesn’t erode that much and comes back quickly, and that’s the most important thing for improving.
I literally already told you I never really had very good game knowledge. All I had were mechanics and the game sense to brute force wins given those mechanics.
I had to learn the basics when I came back. I was a new player for all intents and purposes.
Anyways it seems like you just want to use me as an outlet, and I’m done letting that happen. Byee

If one player can use their phone for multiple accounts, what purpose does it serve?
I don’t think what you’re doing is as bad as what most people call a Smurf, but smurfing is a very serious problem.
It needs to be taken care of. I get that this isn’t the perfect solution, but i see a lot of people complaining without providing alternatives that will actually work.
I have 2 accounts, one I use for solo queue, the other I duo with my friend. They’re both around the same SR, I shouldn’t be locked out of playing a game I paid for because of an added ($ costing) requirement.
