Hard disagree. Overwatch is an insanely synergistic game and even being able to ban 1-2 heroes per game would have strangled the worst metas OW has had in their cradle.
GOATS would have never been a thing if you could ban out Lucio or Brig.
They should’ve tried hero bans ages ago.

Just imagine if we’d had hero bans years ago. We could have completely avoided GOATS and all the damage it did and still is doing to the game.
GOATS is an easy target as an example for hero bans, but the entire reason on why OW feels like it’s such an insanely polarized game is because the devs balance around the expectation that you can, and should, swap to a hardcounter on a dime.
This is magnified exponentially with Tanks because Tanks are such an individually powerful role, and it makes it miserable because 90% of Tanks get chopped off at their knees by a Sombra/Ana swap just the second they start doing too well.
Implementing hero bans would force devs to balance heroes around the heroes themselves, with no expectation that they’d be relying on a broken synergy (i.e. Brig + Juno), or that relying on a hardcounter (i.e. Ana into any self-healing tank) would be a viable option.
They announced there would be hero bans trial like 2 seasons ago…then they just never did it.
You mentioned somewhere else that you might reevaluate if you even want to keep playing OW. Here’s another one for you: if there is only a single hero out the 30+ that you enjoy playing, perhaps it’s time to re-think your free time options.

Things such as not being able to see the enemy team before the bans would be necessary yet I have little faith the devs would do that.

Hero Ban dooesn’t make you better. Its just make you feel less miserable. Your skill won’t impove just because you run away from a certain heroes. Once that hero isn’t banned you are over.
Overwatch in its life has NEVER done player-driven per-match hero bans. Overwatch did a dumb “hero pools” ban system where a dev or a literal cat chose the bans globally for everyone for a week at a time, and people hated it.
Why did people hate it? Because, unlike MR’s player-driven bans which enable player agency, the hero pools actually limited player agency even further than poor or uneven balancing ever did on its own.

And what it showed is if a certain hero is banned for a period of time. People will stop playing .
So if you have someone who’s known for playing a hero and because of a system other players can stop them playing the game… That’s not a good system.
And if your comeback is just “they shouldn’t be a one trick” then you’re not interested in players enjoyment.
Only people so far wanting it badly are the same people who played three tanks three supports for 18 months whined endlessly about it and forced rq that killed ow1.
It’s a 1 % problem that doesn’t need a solution that will ruin the game for millions.
Even the fringe case otps are or those wanting to play a hero are infinely 100 x than t500 of all regions combined.

Only in a very generic game with 4-5 templates reskinned as 44 new heroes does this work to fool the Fortnite and gen z kids with ui dopamine and screen clutter.
While we have started becoming like them we are still very unique in heroes choices and it will ruin ow further .
Do you know what will happen? Ppl will try it, it won’t work, ppl will complain and Blizzard will keep it in the game because they never admit mistakes.

Role queue was a necessity at all ranks. In higher ranks you had goats. In metal ranks you had quad DPS. Both types of comps were cancer. My gameplay experience was significantly better on average post role queue. I still think that it’s the best thing to happen to Overwatch.
Hero bans in Marvel Rivals works. Also it’s only for diamond plus. And the current suggestion on the table is to copy their system exactly which would mean it’s only for Diamond and above.
So I disagree on both points. It would be good. And second, it wouldn’t impact you anyway.

Marvel Rivals is basically an Overwatch clone for all intents and purposes. It’s a testing ground for “what if overwatch did this different”.
I’m against the concept of pure one-tricking anyway. I think any system needs to protect them from being targeted. Like the pick-bans have to happen before you know the enemy team at all. But if you happen to have your main banned well, play something else. You should know more than one hero.
