How do you know that actualy? Did you make any kind of test?
I’m acting slower than other people in 1v1s, etc.
Big issue is also parsing information quickly.
I watch Cyx and he presses tab and he immediately knows what team comps are. I’ve not even realised it’s on screen before it’s gone.
Takes me 2-3 seconds to have a glance and take in that info.
Best example was a Rag Tagg video where he laughed at someone Who’d shown their rank for 2 frames (for guess the rank) Took me twenty pauses to find the issue, but Rag Tagg, and about half the audience, saw the issue immediately.
Dva doesn’t take much reaction speed. I wouldnt worry too much. Just post a vod and try and get better.
Embrace the suck. It is the only way.
I’m probablys silver level now from gold but I’m not bothered I just have times where I play like a blind dog with 3 arms and other times where I become literal number 1. on console, just all about having fun
Unfortunately, OW is not for casual player. You can’t be bad player and enjoy game. If it’s important for you - learn and try be better or just forgot it and don’t play
Bronze and Silver are weird places. Game fundamentals don’t really matter in those ranks. If there is a such thing as ELO hell, Bronze and especially Silver is it. I’ve met plenty of silver tank and healer players who slot perfectly fine into plat groups when doing scrims. Like we’re talking 1 team full plat, other team 5 plat 1 silver healer, and no-one noticed. Matches were back and forth.
DPS is another issue. If you’re down in bronze/silver on DPS, it’s for sure where you belong. The issue with Bronze/Silver is that there is no such thing as teamplay down there. It’s all deathmatch, and you’re only way out is to just improve your mechanics and play like it’s a deathmatch and you’re the carry. Teamplay doesn’t really start until Gold.
To answer your question though OP, people talk about being good or bad at this game, but relative to what? The bell curve? Your own standards? OWL? I consider most of the players (including me) to be bad at this game. This game is very hard and requires a commitment. I’ve been told a few times by different masters players that if I grinded for it, I could reach masters. My only response is that grinding for it would make me hate this game. People focus too much on their rank, when, in the end, it’s pretty meaningless.
So yes, accept the fact that you suck. We all do. It’s ok.
I just tried human benchmark and my results are as average human. And I am 36.
Overwatch comp absolutly is for casual players just as for players for are taking it seriously. Thats why you have ranks below Gold.
I’ve tried human benchmarks in the past but I just can’t reliably use them & I’m almost 19. The memory/pattern ones are pretty easy for me to excel at, but the single-track goals like “click your screen as soon as it turns green” (which seems to be the only reaction time test) are too difficult for me as a fidgety person. I shine in complex environments where I’m actually focused on a goal, the simplicity of those tests just don’t sit well with me, I could get better results playing a Kahoot. An immersive tutorial-like demo in an actual game engine to test reaction time would be cool.
I feel you. I am old too
33, but definitely too old for this game. I have the same problem. I always press tab after the first 15 secs have passed since then you can see the enemy team and it takes me much longer to take the info in, who is running what and since I play support and especially if I play Ana need to know for whom should i save my sleep for . Most of the times I get killed before even absorbing all the info in.
But I blame that mostly on my positioning. Nonetheless, playing with and against people much younger than you who have better reaction time is surely to be felt
However I do not think it is a detriment to you climbing. That is why I love OW. There are so many things one can be good or bad at and still being able to outplay the enemy. I do miss my “being 20 reaction shots” but I am more focused on different things. Sometimes it helps more than perfect mechanical skills.
Do not fret my friend, even us oldies still have some fire inside
I think the healthiest thing to do is always accept that you are in whatever rank you got placed. So yes, you’re a bronze player. BUT there’s really nothing wrong with that! You have to realize that it doesn’t really matter what rank you are. I’m guessing you’re playing this game for fun, and you can enjoy the game even in Bronze.
Plus, as they say “practice makes perfect”. If you keep playing and learning the game, you will most likely improve and slowly rank up. Actively watching videos and asking for reviews of your own game play can help you accelerate this process, but id say put as much effort/time into it as you really want to. I dont watch videos of other gamers because its not something I enjoy. Maybe I would improve faster if I did, but oh well.
Even if you naturally don’t have the best reaction time or mechanical skill, you can still play and enjoy the game. You probably won’t make it to GM or anything, but does that really matter?
Perhaps. but … smurfs and “bad” players can meet in one match and play together. It’s reason why u can’t enjoy game. Matchmaking don’t split this the two categories. but, it’s my opinion and I can be wrong)
My issue with low elo Overwatch is the lack of team work.
I watch owl and it’s this amazing team game.
Bronze is just full of feeders, as well as hard throwers and smurfs. And leavers. Lots of leavers.
My gold games are a lot less stressful as although opposition better, I’m not having to watch my team like a hawk in case they do egregiously stupid crap.
(to be fair, gold games can have feeding dip s***S in them as well, but they’re an exception).
Probably going to have less leaver around depending on the new thing we just got.
