Should I grind this game, or is it a waste of time?

It’s a good game of you want to be skilled and have good teamwork.

If you just wanna solo-carry, then you’ll probably want to just idle in a Valorant twitch stream overnight and grab a key.

If you like the game and also like a competitive experience I’d say give it a shot. This is coming from someone who sucks at CSGO so I don’t really have much knowledge of it to compare CS to OW.

First the absolute most important thing in the game is knowing what your enemy does. Go into practice range and read the heroes ability play around with them a little. If you feel that the practice range is limited there are workshop codes that improves on it. In general learn what counters your top picks and try to learn what counters your counters (kinda like a game of rock paper scissors).

Second most important thing, if you lose: gg go next. Don’t take it as the end of the world Overwatch unlike CS is a game where it’s very hard for one player to clutch it’s instead a lot more about team play, if your team sucks or you yourself is having a bad day it’s better to not get upset over the defeat and take it and just go next. Which is much easier said than done.

I was 3700 (Masters) last time I played competitively and as someone with about 2k hours spread on my two accounts I say that competitive Overwatch is both the best time and the worst time you can have in the game. But if you master the second most important thing you will have a grand time.

Now beside playing competitive because you like competitive games there is not a lot of rewards for doing it in OW you get golden guns and that’s about it. I played a lot of comp because I wanted to become a better player not because of the cosmetics but if it is what you are after don’t expect much from grinding in OW.

But if you want to go beyond you can always go for the path to pro (I would strongly advise against this unless you play the game for enjoyment. Path to pro is not something you do for money at least rn.)

A lot of people in the thread have said that “it’s not worth grinding OW” but I’d say that’s for you to decide try it out and if you did not like it worst thing is you killed some time during a pandemic anyway.

If you have any question just reply here, GLHF.

It’s worth it if you enjoy the game. I find it to be the most truly competitive FPS out there because it takes a much wider skill set than any of them. Nobody can win by just being the best at clicking, which is refreshing for me. I’d recommend learning how each hero works and seeing what works and what doesn’t. I played a lot of CS back in the day but I’ve been playing OW since beta and have only gotten more into it over time, far more than with any other game I’ve played.

Your first rank means absolutely nothing, and placements have no bearing on how the rest of your games will go. Everybody starts right around gold unless you’re really GM, then you might get into diamond. Play 100 games and they’ll place you where you should be.

Weird question to ask, though. If you enjoy it, you should play it. If not, don’t. This isn’t a tech college where you’re looking for a job.

Nothing matters if you have a really good widow against you.

if you are a csgo pro play, McCree, Soldier76, Ashe, Widowmaker

You cant grind in this game, when you are waiting 10-15min for a 8min match

This is an objective based team game. Teamplay and objectives will always trump your aim and so might other heroes abilities. If this is something you can accept then you should grind it. But if this sounds like you don’t want it and prefer the solo carry potential of CSGO then I recommend you quit this game before you get attached.

Stop playing counter strike while having overwatch loaded up. It’s not the salty noob that swaps, it’s the guy that realises that Overwatch is a game centered around counter picking and uses the heroes the devs gave them as tools to win. That is how you play competitively. If he swapped to counter you and you didn’t swap after being countered then you’re the salty noob.

At this point just wait for overwatch 2 to come out. Or play valorant. Gold placement is pretty ordinary/expected.

Is a horrid design “Make a game with a skill-gap-removal button”. What kind of imbecile will make a game like that? lol

On other games you can play to counter but that forces you to. “Pick the character before the match start” or “Swap the character after of around” only “Overtrash” allow you swap to counter RIGHT-AWAY to ruin the match of somebody generating lots of toxicity

So yeah i recomend dont touch this game is garbage. Put the time on sometime you have the control of your FATE a bit more

After almost 18 years of cs 1.6 (including semi-pro play) I couldn’t addapt to new csgo, so I decided to try myself in new genre and tuned up at OW…for 2 years. Now I can say, that was good time untill ranked mm above 3500SR became a coinflip of who has cheater widowmaker and 2 of 3 matches like that, + 15 min q time for damage role in addition. So it is a waste of time for sure, better try valorant it is more engaging, also it encurages individual skill as OW do not and only encourages housewifes playing cheese at low elo or meta at high elo, and meta is not equal to skill. Just imagine the meta for 1.5 years was 3 tanks and 3 supports, now add here your csgo experience and get bald instantly.
OW was a good game, before 2-2-2 role q and cheaters invasion.

Overwatch is definitely something completely unique, that being said, the state of the game right now is absolutely miserable.
Wait until OW2, unless you want a leg up on everyone who will come back when OW2 drops :woman_shrugging:
Though be warned: This game is in Full Beta Mode. They’re testing stuff constantly, everything is subject to change. They don’t even know if shields should be in the game.

Grind what?

Everything in this game related to levels is all cosmetic…

If you’re into CS:GO I imagine there are a lot of things about Overwatch which you wouldn’t like. There is no point in playing if you aren’t having fun.

If by grind you mean try to go pro – this probably isn’t the best time.

Maybe when OW2 launches and a bunch of things (hopefully) change, but with queue times and other games hitting the market it’s probably best to just have fun with the game and not “grind it” competitively.

My .02.

Hello, and welcome to Overwatch! It really all comes down to if you’re having fun with the game. That’s what matters, no?

If you’re liking it, I would totally keep going. The game can really be loads of fun, especially with friends! Even alone the game can be a blast!

Maybe try and experiment with other heroes and learn their abilities and their Ultimate abilities. There are plenty of videos and detailed tutorials online you can find!

I hope you end up wanting to continue! :slightly_smiling_face:

We were talking SR, not cosmetics collecting.

It is a little bit late for that, in my opinion, but it could not hurt if you want something new and for whatever reason are avoiding Valorant.

If you have the mechanical aim for it, it can be a good, fun grind as you learn the game sense aspect. Gold is smack dab in the middle of the competitive ladder, so you’re at a pretty good spot for just starting.

However, if you think it’ll play like CSGO, then you might not enjoy it. DPS are arguably the lowest impact class in this game, and as you go up in rank, it depends a lot on your tanks more than anything else.

If you enjoy the game, definitely try it out. I’d suggest continuing your solo queue for right now, until you get a good handle on the game, then maybe try and find a friend or two to queue up with. Not only is OW more fun when you have people you can coordinate with, but the extra synergy is the surest way to climb.

I will mention that Valorant might be more your cup of tea when it comes out, given it’s like a mix of OW and CSGO. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy OW too. No matter what you decide, good luck and have fun!
