I joined a game at approximately 5:00 pm ET and it appeared to start the game with 5 people on my team. Even other players were chatting about it being 6 v 5. I was then kicked to lobby with a “disconnected from server” message. I stepped away for an hour and came back to find out that I lost ~25 SR for a game that never happened. What the hell is this?

That would mean you failed to join a game the connection didn’t make it. We cover our stance on this issue Here. I’d recommend to post any feedback on the penalty system over on the General forums. If you wish to troubleshoot the connection let us know!
