Seriously why does all people play dps?

I do flex more now, but still consider myself aimed by the post so please find below my reasons in a nutshell:

  • I do not want to invest time in learning an Overwatch specific thing. Which means I will gravitate towards aim intensive heroes (to transfer that skill to other FPS in the future), rather than Rein or Mercy for example.
  • I’m well aware of the fact that I’m a crappy tank.
  • I am agressive by nature (in my gameplay), so DPS tend to fit me better
  • As tanks or support my gameplay is going to be equally agressive, which can surprise my team and lead to defeat…

As rein for instance I cannot just stay with my shield up, I’ll get bored, frustrated and start to throw without even noticing it. So I will hold it until I reach the ennemy team then hammer at them.
As a support I’ll play Zen because I do get picks with him and go on cheeky agressive flanks, or Ana because if anything I still train aim.

So there you go…

Because all the people who were smart enough to rank up played tanks and supports.

Watch high tier games, dps main are lacking up there.

For me personally, it is because of mobility. Mobility (in any game) directly equates to more skill=more impact. And its fun to go zoom.

Its why Dva is by far the most played tank, ever.

Its why Lucio is not trash tier.

Its why people play Tracer and Genji every game who honestly should be playing Junk and Torb b/c of potato aim.

This is true for ANY game …tf2 scouts who couldnt kill anyone come to mind…

Because I hate favor the shooter. Tanks and Healers (old defence catagory hero’s too) have mostly defensive abilities putting them at a direct intentional disadvantage to offensive ones, and putting your shield up on your screen to watch a replay that directly contradicts your experience sucks, or have Zarya’s bubbles show up on your screen just to have it go on CD for 1 sec and then get refunded and your target die, or exc…

and knowing it’s not a equal happening sometimes you or sometimes them, but a thing that you will always encounter doesn’t really inspire you to want to go through that. You can’t trust whats on your screen.

It’s just made feeling bad part of the kit so no one wants to do it.

for me anyway, I play at 50 ping consistently, no spikes and replays often just are not whats happening on my end. So I play DPS more and never have these problems. I had to fix it myself.

Because Tanks and Healers aren’t fun to play. They’re different roles, you see. Similar to playing a Medic in a realistic battlefield game, where you spend most of your time bandaging wounded soldiers. That’s simply not fun, except for a few players who enjoy that.

There’s evidence showing that majority of OW players are DPS, which is a problem because the OW is not designed to handle that. OW would need to be designed in a way that Tanks and Healers are just as fun to play, and the only idea I have for that is by making them some kind of “Boss” and “Mini-boss” hero, in a 1:1:4 meta group. 1 Tank(Boss), 2 Healer(Mini-boss), 4 DPS.

Not sure if you play tank you can easily carry games.

Not if your team doesn’t work together and get picked off one by one, which is often the case in lower ranks.

Comp is the only place to earn CP for gold weapons and also gives you icons/sprays every season. With the addition of the endorsement system you now gain an exp boost for faster loot boxes.

In other words, those players you see insta-lock DPS are casual players farming cosmetic items. They do not play comp to climb so they exit voice chat, put their profile on private, pick the most fun heroes to play (DPS) and play like it’s deathmatch.

This is the problem with having a bunch of ex-WoW guys with zero FPS experience running an FPS game. Their focus is always on adding shiny new objects to collect and not on the competitive side of the game. Casual incentives should not exist in a competitive mode.

it is so annoying. i’m almost always a tank, and generally the only tank, with maybe a support or two. the rest are dps who think they’re so cool by getting kills… when they can’t get kills cause i keep dying cause… oh wait there’s no support anymore! it really pisses me off

“Medals mean nothing” is something people with bad aim latch onto to make themselves feel better about not having the medals.

Medals aren’t EVERYTHING but they aren’t NOTHING either. If you have a hanzo and winston has more damage it’s probably because hanzo is whiffing a lot.

It means nothing as it gives zero context. Moira: I have gold Elims! Throwing out a damage orb and touching everything shouldnt get you praise, it shouldnt even be a card. Also having Gold healing is nice. But did the healing go where it was needed or you just stick to healing the meatiest target on the team? Thats why i want a % on who gave what healing to who and number on the total heals the players received throughout the match

I want to see Total damage done to player 1-2-3-4-5-6 by player X, player X did 6000 damage to player 2 which would be 25% of the total damage done to that player throughout the match. Meaning we have context to the matches in stats in relation to who did what. Rather then the current nonsensical filibuster system we have now thats says, YOU HAVE GOLD MEDALS, GOOD JOB!

This thread is over a year old and the topic is made obsolete by 2-2-2

Because when i heal and save my rein, nano a genji and bionade the enemy team so he can shred them with his ult i feel so passive and disconnected despite setting up a big play.

When i play ashe, flank the enemy, twoshot the zen, dynamite the 76 and Ana, send in a bob and boop away the rein so that 3 more people die i get a dopamin rush and feel amazing. So even if there are matches in which i do not perform i prefere to click heads over healing the people who do so. Might also be the mentality of people in real life

so TL;DR is that it’s more fun to be the star than the supporting role who enables the star to shine

Well, over half the roster is in the attack category, and you have a huge variety of play styles. Tanks mostly tank, supports mostly support. Attack… you can fly with Pharah. Zip around with Tracer, be a turret dwarf, street fighter combo guy, classic FPS type, Freeze people, and so on.

bad fps players come to OW cause it’s easy to hit shots on tanks and feel they are good or spam bullets into a choke point so yeah most of players will play dps cause is a role that gives u high reward, doesn’t matter if u are good or bad, u will barely miss shots unless u are that unbrained phara trying to rocket the other pahra or mercy.
not pretending to say every dps player is bad, just that playing dps is easy in this game since big hitboxes exist and they have good mobility to selfcare aka soloplaying.
im totally with the guy who droped this is a FP moba and not a pure shooter, but i admit most of the players take this game as a shooter and make tanks and support lose their games due to the lack of game sense.
i do actually give honor points and +1 in cards to supports and to the second tank, never to dps unless they were really the difference, everybody knows dpsers are not the stars in this game, their job was simple, shoot.

Role lock is coming soon

and i love it 20chars

Yep
20 characterssss

Lol at all this glorifying of DPS.

DPS is the most superfluous role in the game. This is why GOATS existed. Cuz a comp without DPS is actually a possibility, but a comp without tanks or healers is not a possibility.

I had way more fun playing Wrecking Ball than playing something like S76 or McCree. Boring hitscans. The idea that DPS is more “fun” is also BS and superficial.

This role definitely DOES NOT deserve all the praise and spoiling it gets. And yeah, DPS instalockers are mostly self-serving, immature and the number one reason why ranking up can be a stressful experience. Hopefully 2-2-2 will change that.

And like, as someone who mains D.va and Ball, there’s nothing a DPS main in my rank can do that I can’t do. Gold elims? I get in most of my games. I often get Gold/Silver dmg even, and POTGs with my ults. There is absolutely nothing these people have on me, or anything that puts them in an immediate advantage over me. On top of that, I actually help my team by playing an indispensable role.
