So as a Overwatch player who came in 2018 after scatter had been removed, i never got to experience how powerful it was. Thanks to the event mode, yeah, i can safely say removing it was the correct decision…
Yeah imagine that thing deleting tanks in one shot by just aiming at their feet
Or the ceiling. It really doesn’t take much effort to get value out of scatter
I’d still rather have scatter over sojourn and kiriko
You really wouldn’t. You’re only saying that because of your current frustrations concerning Kiriko and Sojourn
Scatter made me tilt so much. When they announced its removal I was SO happy . Playing the Valentine’s mode reminded me of how annoying and unfair that ability really was back then.
But then we have JR who is basically doing exactly that. Spamming his nades into a room to bounce off the walls. Spamming it on the ground to bounce to the enemy team… Not so different to Scatter Arrow. You don’t need to aim. You just let geometry does its job.
Geometry

There is a LANDSLIDE of a difference, between JR nades and mines (that are mostly deadly in close range) and a YOLO shatter arrow, that can delete tanks while aiming at the feet of them…
People who compare shatter to anything we have currently are delusional.
FTFY.
Shooting at their feet is effective but people died even when the Hanzo just randomly shoot scatter to a closed space and random bounces happened. It was ridiculous.
I played when scatter was around and I’d 100% rather have it than kiriko sojourn.
Two overtuned problematic heroes out of the game in trade for scatter coming back is logical.
I feel like if the damage was toned down just a bit and with the current amount of health tanks have, it might actually have been fairly balanced in OW2.
Yeah it was the right choice. Even though hanzo had scatters back then, his projectiles were actually slower, his charge time was slower and he didn’t have leap. The only thing hanzo had on his arsenal was scatters to one shot tanks. Im happy with where hanzo is now, hanzo went from trash tier to viable tier. His tier will only go up to S tier depending on who is playing the hero.
Scatter in the event mode actually seems to have been significantly nerfed, it used to deal something like 480 damage in total. That said, the cooldown reset on getting an elimination was never a thing in normal Overwatch.
Hanzo overall was much weaker back then without access to lunge either way, people used to go “Hanzo switch” before you even got out of the hero assembly phase. He was absolutely terrible aside from the ability to one-shot some tanks.
It was a glorious intelligence check cooldown, that got unjustly removed. Ahhhhh, those where the days.
I loved 1-shotting Orisas by aiming at their feet
