Role Queue - Avoid long waiting times

Overwatch has less tank and support players than DPS, which is the reason for long waits for DPS players and I understand that.

The role system is pretty unfair on one point and that’s when I queue up for all 3 roles. In this case it is not the case that I alternately play all 3 roles and the waiting time is always very short, no, instead I play 10 games in a row either Tank or Support, but it never happens that I also play DPS.

I think that the role system should have a reward for players in this regard: if you queue for all 3 roles at the same time, you are guaranteed to receive a DPS role every third match. This procedure could also be an incentive for the players who like to play DPS but want to avoid the long waiting times.

So that the system cannot be undermined, a DPS role should only be guaranteed if you have played 2 matches as tank or support beforehand.

If a player has played tank or support twice before, the waiting time for the DPS role is very short. The more players participate in this system, the better it works, of course.

This is false. dps get high queue times because there aren’t enough tanks and healers to keep up with the demand that the dps are creating.

Yes you are right, I accidentally mixed it up

This has been suggested many times. There’s a theory that in such a system, the players who only queue for DPS will suffer from even greater wait times, as they will be constantly cut in front of by the players in the priority queue. This will lead to a number of additional grievances, such as feelings of being forced to participate in this system against their will, and being forced to play roles they have no inclination of playing just to get the role they want, maybe once per hour of play time. I think that Blizzard could try it out on an Experimental and see how it performs, assuming that there will be enough test subjects to queue solely for DPS to test out the impact of the change.

No, just no.
It’s not fair that one player gets pushed to the front of the line as a reward for playing a better role.
Play the role you like, wait in queue if you are too lazy to play tank or support just like the other dps players.

This theory seems to be incorrect to me. Surely this system would infact reduce queues for damage. Because damage players would also be more inclined to play the other roles with the knowledge that they would eventually be guaranteed to play damage with a short wait time.

As a tank player myself I see nothing un fair with this system. The only reason someone wouldn’t want a system like this seems to me like they would want to “hog” the short queue times for themselves. Which seems to me to be quite a selfish mindset.

Nor would I see anything “Better” about playing a given role over another. The reason you are being given the reward of short damage queue times is that you have contributed to the system by playing the role that is most in demand therefore you have Earned the short due time for damage.

What about the ones who didn’t want role queue, being forced to play the role queue mode against there will… I know QP classic is in the arcade, but for how long… That’s my worry every day.

Open Que exists still

No, you all misunderstand me! I like to play all 3 roles. Open queue is not the right for me, because I like the 2/2/2 system. The thing is, that if I queue up for all 3 roles I never play DPS, I will only be able to play Tank or Support.

The current quick play system is nothing than that: I always have to play what very few people want to play - if I queue up for all 3 roles.

I could be possible to put this game mode into Arcade.

DPS players if they want to play DPS , wait in line.
You should not be able to push past other DPS players simply by virtue of you playing another role , it will only lead to those that don’t want to play Tank or Support playing the role so that other DPS players have to wait longer and then throwing the games they are playing tank and support in (or trolling them to try to get them over quickly).

Want shorter queues ? Play tank or Support not for a special reward but because you want to play tank or support.

Priority queue for completing games in other roles seems like a good idea. I wonder though how many would really take advantage of it. Players usually play a certain role because they like it and won’t be enticed to play another role even if it means a shorter queue time in their preferred role. Players who like to play all the roles would benefit most which means it might actually increase the queue times of the players who only play one role, forcing them to play flex which they hate.

Maybe Blizzard should fix tanking and supports so it’s not such a trash experience - maybe then queues would be fixed.

Saying “wait in line” is putting the onus on the player when the problem is with Blizzard

I agree that releasing more tanks and supports that people want to play is the solution to DPS queue times. Forcing players that only want to play DPS to have even longer queue times due to others throwing or trolling matches as Tank and Support is still a horrible idea.

Let’s say you are the player that just wants to play DPS and you are ok with the normal 10-15 min Max wait so you log in and wait, then the wait goes up to 15-20 minutes as other DPS players are done throwing their tank or support matches and bumped you back, then it jumps to 20-30 and 30-45 and 1.5-4 hours etc. etc. all because someone else trolled matches and made the community worse than it already is.

Again, this is Blizzard’s responsibility to manage. If you keep giving players trash gameplay, of course they’re going to be frustrated and maybe start queuing tank just to get a game. And maybe they feed because what they play it like DPS, which is what they wanted to play.

Anyways, the point is Blizzard has fallen far short of addressing the queue times.

EDIT: while I was typing this I was in a priority requeue for DPS and it took 4.5 minutes to pop. That’s trash.

“What about Open Queue?”

“What about Open Queue?”

it would be nice if dps one tricks decided to play support or tank every often to make this less of an issue

Yes let’s trade a minor inconvenience for a major issue. Sounds like a solid plan. Instead of a small wait for DPS players all matches have DPS players playing Tank or Support and only wanting to end the match quickly.

Throw the match so I can get out of here to get into my DPS match !!! will be a common occurence.

if they learn how to do something other than being a dps then we have a bunch of players who can heal, dps and tank but that would require them to actually put in effort and not be selfish and we know genji mains are not going to want to heal anything or be anywhere near their team

Nor should they need to be, they can queue as DPS, wait a short time and then play as DPS.

We’ll have an opportunity to test this out very soon ourselves. My interest is certainly piqued with the latest development.
