Roadie mains! Could I bother you for some tips?

Hello and good morning, friends! I’ve recently decided to learn more off-tanks (currently a D.Va main and pretty dang confident in playing her). I’ve been playing more Zarya recently and after 15 hours I think I’m getting a pretty good (pretty good, not very good) handle of her cooldown management, which was very difficult for me in the beginning, but I’m definitely feeling more comfortable with her now. Next I want to get a handle on Roadhog! He’s really fun but I have less than an hour on him so I pretty much have no freakin’ clue what I should be doing with him. Tips would be much appreciated!

Go into a custom game, make it spawn 6 Lucio bots, practice the timing and location of your combo such that you can consistantly kill all six in a row.

Then do the same with the other 200hp hero bots.

Mastering that 200hp combo is the most important thing you can do.

Not a Roadhog main but I do know some tips.

Firstly would be whenever you hook, step forward into your hooked target as you pull them in so you can land more of your M1 spread on their face. Also, follow-up every hook-shoot combo with a melee, even if it might not be needed. Just in case.

And then there’s also the hook-turn, where you hook them then whip your camera to a side to either really displace them or drop them off the edge of a map.

Roads Hook now has Two Line of Sight Checks
this means you can land a hook, it checks to deal damage, then it checks to pull.
this might not seem like a big deal but any character with movement (including junmping) can get behind a wall or cover and not get pulled in even arfter taking damage

don’t use it to try to counter corner poke because the pokers win, stick with your team and make sure they’re around to capitalize on any hooks that pass the double check.

road also has higher fire rate then people realize and holding m1 or m2 will give out alot more damage sooner then the basic click.

And you can turn almost 180 to “place” hooked targets
Also walk forward to better ensure max damage on hooks.

Learn where to aim your lmb when you hook someone.

It is not always best choice to aim at the head, since more pellets could miss. For some targets, you will need to aim the neck or the body.

One tip to use is bodyblocking in combination with the hook. Imagine a choke point, there you hook someone in, twist around and place the opponent on your side, while you quickly move in front of them and simply blocking them off from their exit. They often panic not able to get away, and landing shots on them is very easy since they will be all up in your face. This can be risky!

Exploit all pits to hook people into, but don’t focus only on this, as it leaves you very vulnerable too for other Hogs, Lucio’s, Pharahs and what not.

Avoid Brigitte. She counters pretty much his entire kit, and a fight against her is long, tedious and very risky. I often find myself just walking away from that encounter.

When healing, turn around from damage to protect his head from crit damage.

Gl with Hoggy, he is a very fun hero. Easy to pick up and hard to master :metal:t2::pig:
