RIP Moira (Also SHE DOESN'T HAVE LOCK-ON)

I SWEAR you were using a Winky D.Va player icon a SECOND ago.

I logged onto my PC instead of my phone and I guess it changed it?

Never happened to me. I log in from my phone to my PC and vice versa all the time and this never occurred to me. Odd.

Fixed it!

why did this happen in the first place :pensive:

Lock on:
Once target location and heading is aquired projectile (attack) will track target without further inflience from shooter. Projectile (attack) will constantly update target’s location/heading information and continue tracking until target or projectile is destroyed.

Moira has to still maintain some accuracy to keep beam on target. You don’t just hit the target, turn around and run away while doing damage.

Yes there is, Mercy is lock-on. Moira’s primary fire actuaky have the EXACT hitbox of Coalescence, trust me, put your reticle as a circle the same width as Coales and see what happesns if the edge of the reticle is out of the target. Because her beam is thinner than coalesc, they animate it to curve. But it never curves further than the total hitbox.

It’s the only possibility.

also I love that, thank you

Its not aim assist, just doesn’t have the hitbox visible. Hence its hard to tell her aim is coming close to you unlike a Zarya beam.

Supports really aren’t allowed to have anything fun huh.

Out of curiosity do any of you consider moiras ult to be lock on? Or “might as well be” lock on?

Don’t worry
As a Junk 1 trick I understand the pain of idiots not thinking your hero requires aim.
At least we know we aren’t alone in this.

Sym had an accuracy stat too… it still judges your accuracy if you -aren’t- hitting something.

It’s a lock-on ability, but it’s a soft lock.

Does it really matter if it’s a technical lock-on or not? The point has always been that it’s far too forgiving. It’s not OP, but for what reason is anyone trying to defend it?

Moira can have her stun-free fade, but they should make it so the cooldown is doubled when it’s used to escape CC.

Also, can we just get rid of the useless damage orb already? Not only is it obnoxious to the enemy team, but it’s obnoxious to the ally team when our Moira just keeps throwing it and Genji deflects it or Dva eats it every time, thus wasting the potential heal orb. It’s incredibly niche and everybody on both teams hates it except the dumb Moira that keeps throwing it thinking they’re doing anything but feeding enemy support or Genji. Not to mention it ruins Deathmatch games.

No, its not lock on.

No, its not the same thing.

No, its not “soft lock”. Soft lock is a made up term.

Yes, there is a difference.

School time kiddies. Before shifting careers- I used to program and work on games. Yippee- I know.

Yes- Theres a difference. Quite a few, actually- And they have a lot of game play implications.

“Lock ons”, do much like their name imply. They lock on.

“Behind the scenes” of it all- Lock ons typically have acquisition tolerances. Usually measured in angles, at which the attack will engage and lock on to a target, and an angle at which it will disengage.

Sometimes this angle is the same- Sometimes its not. Mercy for example, a hero with a genuine lock on, has a narrower “lock on” angle than the disengage angle. She actually doesnt have a disengage angle, and can freely look all over the place- and the beam will stay tethered to her target.

Moira, “behind the scenes”, when you attack- Produces an invisible hit box from her hand, that is cylindrical in shape

When that hitbox is over a target- The closest target in range will begin to take damage. The instant that target leaves the hit box, they no longer take damage. No “lock on” or disengage angles. Just a hit box.

Visually (and this is where a lot of the confusion comes from) however, when attacking a target- the game will draw a beam from moiras hand, to the center of her target.

Think of it this way

This top image

Mechanically, is the same as the bottom image.

Now one of the BIG differences between this, and a genuine lock on- Is that the beam does not stay locked on to the target.

If another target enters that hitbox between moira and her initial target- the “beam” will begin to damage to them instead.

With a genuine lock on, the beam wouldve stayed, again as the name implies- LOCKED on to the initial target.

I mean think of it this way-

Would you consider moiras ult to be “lock on”? “Aim assist”? “Soft lock”? Or whatever else you want to make up about it?

Because, as others have pointed out- They have the Exact same size hitbox, within a couple pixels of eachother.

This is the edge of moiras primary attack, before the hitbox leaves the target:

And this is her ult:

Literally the same. So if you want to call her primary attack “lock on”, you better start calling her ult lock on too.

I mean…no, she doesn’t have a lock on, she has a soft lock and aiming with her is insanely easy, you’d have to try really hard to actually miss. Lock on or not, result is the same. But whatever makes you feel better about yourself

Lmao, I never acted like she wasn’t easy to aim with. I just said it’s not a lock-on.:crazy_face::crazy_face::crazy_face:

don’t see why you’re replying to me like an hour after we all already discussed it. You’re late to the party and nobody cares anymore zzzzz.
