RIP Junkrat: Look at what they did to my boy

Getting gold in damage done doesn’t mean jack simply because of so many factors, it just means what you done during that game.

In addition, consider me skeptical since Junkrat, even at his strongest, only took fifth place at GM in heroes pick rate and choice. Most of the time, people default to tracer/genji/soldier/mcree even than Junkrat.

The mine falloff, while some consider it necessary, wasn’t even done properly as instead of giving something like a consistent drop off, they opted to give it a falloff starting form its model.

So mine would never do the full 120 unless it is placed on trap, has varying damage from 119-30, and the old trap + mine combo is gone.

Still, he was moderately fine. The only thing people complained about was his ult charge and the frequency he gets it.

So, instead of tackling that, they opted, for some reason, to hit his grenades instead. The last thing people expect or even ask for, rather than the sensible thing of increasing his ult charge. (The riptire speed being decreased didn’t bother us as much as the grenade mine.).

Clearly, Blizzard felt differently based on their research… I would disagree “that the only thing people complained about” was his charge unless you mean GM/Pro play… the game is broader than that. I’ve also heard part of the change was to have the grenade more match the graphic as well.

If people are being hit by his grenades, that means two things, people aren’t being attentive enough or the Junkrat managed to actually aim his shots enough to make it hit.

There’s a reason why Junkrat tapers off at plat and above, and if they’re trying to encourage good aim from Junkrat, this isn’t the way to do so.

If the last part was meant to match the graphics then I’ll say its bull considering projectiles, and char models hitbox are larger than they should be.

I’m so happy he got these nerfs. Now he require more skill. And aim.

when i play JR and dont have gold medal in DMG i fell like i had a bad game UNLESS i did something important, something that had significant impact in game (like opening a way to take point A or B

i dont need to have 50 kills in a game and 500.000 dmg done where 90% of it are headshots)… i dont even play like that - i allways look for an opening in enemy lines to exploit it and spread chaos among my enemies
if i will make reinhardt turn arround, so he will turn his back to my teammates i allredy won

like so

Oddly I played him in comp yesterday and forgot he even got nerfed. He felt fine.

This is no longer a balanced character. The nerfs simply take him out of the meta entirely. There are better options for taking out tanks, shields, flankers and making space for the team.

He went from a solid option for damage, to now where he feels simply like a throw pick. His ult is easy to shoot, his primary barely hits, his mine does not do enough damage with falloff. He does not feel like a threat, instead he feels like an easy target.

The developer comments do not explain why these nerfs went through. As someone who has spent 100s of hours filling as main tank, I have never found his projectile size to be the issue.

Sure, you can make him work if you build a team around him, but why play him at all when there are better options now? Also consider how many times people are willing to build around a lesser pick, and why should they? What does he add to a team, that cannot be performed better by another character?

Unless you change the travel speed of his primary grenades or make them detonate on impact like Zarya’s secondary, what is the point in having a Junkrat over another hero?

Pharah has a backboard (the ground) junkrat can miss high, low, left, right, short, long, and also his shots don’t explode off the first thing they touch.

Nerfing junkrat is just paving the way for Brigitte to be unstoppable.

What? Excuse me but didn’t they make the projectile size smaller meaning you’d have to aim MORE for your spam to hit ?

Um, that’s totally not how that works.

Let me explain…

Pharah rockets travel in a straight line, and explode when they hit anything.

Junkrat’s bombs travel in an arc, and only explode on direct hit with some things. The rest of the time they bounce off at natural angles and roll around for a few seconds before exploding.

They are only alike in that they cause explosions, and one is far easier to aim with than the other (Pharah. It’s Pharah, if you have to ask.)

This Junkrat nerf literally may make me play him less and play more Sombra or hell Mei in comp now. Also, may two tricks these heroes now.

It’s worse than that. Jeff’s comments clearly state that the intention was not to nerf Junkrat. Just to make him “less frustrating to play against”.

I guess “less frustrating” means “never play against him, never see him, and report anyone who touches him for throwing in the spawn room before the game starts”.

The Tracer ult damage nerf is literally more impactful than both of Junk’s nerfs combined with Brigitte out. Relax.

As a junkrat main:

After all the nerfs they did to my crazy baby, what was the point of buffing junkrat in the first place?

  1. They removed the selfdamage on his projectiles.

Cool, makes junkrat a good “up your face” heroe.

  1. They give him two mines, add speed to the tire and let it climb infinitly.

Reason was so he had more consistent damage. Which was cool but shortly after:

  1. Nerf. The tire launch was cut down because the wheel could jump super far. Ok i get that on.

  2. Nerf. The mines now have damage drop off to reduce his consitency and increase need of aim.

Why did you give him the second mine in the first place then?

  1. Projectily size reduction by 33% and tire speed reduction.

Cmon… i don’t know why people think his ultimate was op in any way after the nerf of the tire launch. It’s so easy to destroy by nearly every dps and even some tanks. And in the meanwhile something like hanzo gets a fix for the stupid 1 shot skill scatterarrow AFTER 2 years and they make him even stronger, more anoying.

They basiclly gave him a tracer blink to dodge any ability aimed at him with a super short cooldown. The gave him mccrees fan the hammer, but with higher damage and way easyer to aim and they made his arrows faster?

I demand a Junkrat rework. Give me a new Ult and ability to machine gun his nades.

The OW team doesn’t need 5 minutes to decide on nerfs for underdog heroes or anything that has a chance against the “Cancerous 3”. 2 Years to add a nerf to the massive hitbox of deflect, tracer also only got a little nerf that saves tanks, but her “clip in ya face and bye” is still there, mccree and hanzo bust a nut in your face and you don’t even have a chance on reacting.

it’s sad. Now i can’t even boop hanzos of the map in FFA, because he can just jump back to a wall and climb it :frowning:

This is so true. The projectile size change effectively screwed his main utility of filling chokepoints with explodey since it hardly hits anything now. The mine falloff removed his ability to consistently finish off his 1v1 fights. RIP-tire in itself is already absurdly easy to destroy before the nerf.

Well, it’s that bad for people who actually aiming with the grenade, there is no different if you play spam rat or miss rat. I practice a bit with him and my acc sometimes can be up to 25% or even 28% but with the new one, I don’t see it happening.

If you think 0,1 less of size of bombs and 1% less of ult speed is a high nerf… then you have a problem.
Junkrat was an easy killer and it is yet. No changes !!!
He didn’t lose 25% of ult damage like another cute hero of this game… :frowning:
