RIP "Bumping" threads

Same. Bumping is bad as spam sometimes.

To be fair though, dont you think after a certain amount of upvotes or comments a thread is entitled to a reply?

I always liked to bump my posts for visibility. Sometimes you dont even know a good conversation is being had unless someone bumps it into view.

And to be honest, who is going to scroll down a never ending thread to find that one topic that 0 comments on it?

Bumping threads wasnā€™t really allowed to begin with, but some people just did it anyway (it violated the common courtesy guidelines because it was considered spamming).

Personally I have never been a fan of thread bumping for any reason.

Auto bump is a great idea with every X amount of likes

Self bumping was a thing that needed to stop. This is a welcome change.

Only in some situations though. Not everyone thread ā€œneededā€ a bump, but some did

I meant more about people who needed it, not people who just used it who didnā€™t need it. At that point itā€™s kind of spamming

I like this. Sometimes threads just need to die, and if the forums are not biting, then newer topics should replace them to prevent noise.

There was a toxic 3 month old post getting a reply earlier today on the old forums. I see that becoming an impossibility as a positive!

This is why we canā€™t have nice thingsā€¦I hope Blizzard finds these people out. Iā€™m ok with people bumping threads for each other with real replies, but ā€˜likeā€™ trading? Geh.

Some people really need to find hobbiesā€¦

Right, but the difference between the two is subjective. Everyone who bumped their thread thought it deserved to be bumped. Better to not allow any bumping and let ideas build momentum via support from the community, as they should.

I like that bumping threads is gone. Bumping a thread caused a lot of clutter that wasnā€™t necessary and now we get notified of replies and such. These forum features are very good.

I wouldnā€™t use the word ā€œentitledā€, more like ā€œdeservedā€. Using the word ā€œentitledā€ is implying that you have to get a reply.

And about your last paragraph, it is true, but what youā€™re also implying that self-bumped posts are a means to ā€œbaitā€ people into joining. They would think someone else has replied, but it turns out it was the OP

If they can provide a feature that put liked threads further up through sorting maybe, or in the ā€œsuggested areaā€, then Iā€™m all for it.

OP bumping his/her thread just because it had ~10 likes however is not ok IMO.

Another problem related to this is the use of the search function. Some people think that their topic is very important but forget to look up if that very same discussion had been started already in another thread.

I mean thatā€™s cool cause usually someone would bump it and then a mod would kindly tell them to stop and lock the thread

That kinda reminds me of talent shows where the participant refuses to acknowledge the ā€œNOā€ from the judges and keeps on singing.
