I’m not totally sure I agree on every point there. The implication is more than GA would need to be altered in how movement works rather than axed completely for a separate utility. And the problem that the GA change aimed to fix was mid-short engagements on maps like Route 66 where a pocketed dps could take up positions far ahead of what was safe, knowing that they could escape from the pocket, and even if they targetted the Mercy instead, it would be incredibly difficult for the Mercy to die.
It’s a little hard a situation for me to describe with words to be honest. I might hop into a custom game or something and build a clip to showcase with words.
And once again, the point of it is that both sides have identified that they want Mercy to be changed. Just in different directions. There are answers that can satisfy all sides for the most part (Outliers always exist but outliers do not make up everyone).
I do agree that bigger and more comprehensive explanations would be good, but at the same time they shouldn’t go too in depth, because they aren’t top500s, and it will need time to be out in the wild to verify what it’ll do to the game. Missteps will happen and that’s a part of the process, which this GA change was.
Nonetheless though, nothing is gained by stagnation, and mistakes can be fixed.
