Revert Mercy to Patch 1.19.1.2

“Overused”

Illusion 0

Not necessarily.
A common thing i see people do is compare Valk to Trans and Sound barrier.
While it’s actually much more akin to Nanoboost. You use it to reinforce a push.
I don’t think the ult is amazing… But it’s certainly not as bad as people make it out to be.

As in, there’s 2 people taking damage that are close to each other, so let’s say being damage by Winston. Outside of valk, you would need to effectively prioritize your beam between both targets to make sure both of them will live. In valk, there’s no need to do this at all. It kind of just eliminates the skills that makes the hero more engaging and fun to play.

Valk is a brain dead ult because I can use it to completely eliminate the thought of out healing a single tank targeting more than one teammate at a time

Why is this a bad thing?

It ruins the engaging part of the character and need for some sort of skill outside of aim. I would rather have a more impactful valk with a shorter duration that would make her feel more engaging to play.

It doesn’t.

You think simply more impact would make it more engaging? It would actually do the opposite.

You may want to take a look at the discussion in the #bigmainlittlechain post

According to the forums she does. Remember during moth meta the forums were saying she wasn’t even that good? Just shoot her LoL

True she was overused because of res. But this was before the supper buffs and nerfs. So now it might play out well because other supports are welcome in the meta.

IE when she was an absolute must pick?

No thanks.

They said everything using Valkyrie would be better, What Valkyrie does now.

  • 50 to 60 Heals per seconds.
-Resets GA Cooldown if it was used already.
    -Self health regen.
    -Long range of staff beam
    -GA longer range.
    -Unlimited ammo.
    -More speed.
    -15 seconds of free flight.
-Chain Healing and Damage Boost (Which I think is really good for Valkyrie)
-But no buff to resurrect in Valkyrie, still slow. (I think mercy would be fine as long if she gets instant resurrect, or a longer range to resurrect in Valkyrie).

what’s the difference?

OPs suggestion would make Mercy an overpowered must-pick again and I think that would be a major step backwards. I personally think Mercy is in a horrible state but she has been in this state for over a year now and it has nothing to do with her power but everything to do with how her current kit is designed (10% or more of your play-time is spent relying on automatic mechanics to do everything for you and it simply isn’t fun for me). However, I have come to accept that Mercy will never ever change back to a state in which I think she’ll be fun to play again, and so the best anyone can hope for at this point is for her to be balanced.

A hero being overused in Overwatch is synonymous with being overpowered. Take Dva for example. She saw a 92% pickrate in the 2018 Overwatch World cup which is an even higher pickrate than what Brigitte saw. Some people argue that Dva is fine, when in reality this is both statistically and observationally false. There is simply no other hero who can fulfil the same role as her. Defence Matrix is just too good an ability and is currently irreplaceable in the vast majority of team comps.

The same goes for how Mercy was. The only way to way to make her not a must-pick was to nerf her base healing, which is what has happened. She is now fine.

Mercy’s kit would flow much better if Valkyrie was moved to her E ability.

E Valkyrie:

  • 4 second duration
  • 8 second cooldown, beginning after the ability ends
  • Chain beams traded for temporary buffs to the single target beams
  • 50% stronger healing
  • Damage boosted targets have a piercing effect added to their shots. This only applies to bullets and projectiles, not splash damage or explosions. Piercing bullets can pass through enemies, but not through shields.

I should note that E valkyrie’s flight is short and very floaty, like Pharah’s passive boosters. It’s great for getting up to high ground or crossing gaps between ledges, but it’s too slow to use as an escape if a flanker has already gotten the drop on you. Mercy would continue to rely on Guardian Angel as her primary form of peel.

They could have replaced rez or reduced the duration of Valkyrie to 5 seconds or something along those lines too. Both those changes would have kept Mercy more enjoyable to play (for me), but instead they made sure Mercy’s kit started to feel disruptive and they reduced her effectiveness at her primary role, which has resulted in her no longer being the go-to healer for solo-target healing which is what the developers intended her to be.

All in all though, Mercy may be balance but to me that has never been my primary concern. I enjoyed playing Mercy back when she was significantly underpowered (before January of 2017). Now I no longer find her fun because over 10% of my playtime is spent not being needed as a player as most things are done for me). Valkyrie really is a terribly designed ultimate. Imagine Soldier 76’s ult was 15 second long; those 15 seconds would be extremely unengaging and boring. I wish Mercy’s ultimate was no longer than 5 seconds.

Absolutely not. Instant Rez with free flight with the bonus leads to never rezing out of call because who would and abusing her flight speed to Rez people who dead in the middle of enemy team. Oh and if they die again, just Rez again. Could the enemy team kill me? Ha fat chance.

This is a version of op mercy and I abused it because I wanted to show everyone who versed me how easy and unbalanced it was (in QP because I don’t comp)

Also op mercy 2.x was absolutely popular because she was broken not because people just like her character or something. She was the best support in every situation.

Would rather have patch 1.6.2.1 version of Mercy with some tweaks.

I would rather have Mercy not be changed at this point
