Reporting abusive players

Yes, because that “thing” you’re referring to as harmful is… just playing the game

To tell you the truth -

If a teammate doing poorly or making mistakes is enough to ruin the experience of a game for you, online team based games are not for you.

Like flat out. There’s literally no way to have everyone perform super well every match. Again, even literal professional players make mistakes and have bad games, especially on the ladder.

Again, this goes back to the issue being players who can’t help but hyper fixate on their teammates and wind up angry and toxic because of it.

This is true…

However most players aren’t sociopaths who literally just play to ruin the game for others. And OW just doesn’t have a severe intentional feeding problem anyways.

No, by my logic you are doing things incorrectly. You’re not stating your intention, but it’s still there regardless of whether or not you state it.

It’s not detectable… Which of course it’s not. There’s always a way to throw games that borders along the lines of plausible deniability.

Yes, I arguing that losing a match is OK due to mistakes or being a worse player than the rest of the lobby.

Because neither of those are issues. They always happen in every game on earth, and again even pros mess up and have bad games.

If they got to the rank you’re at by playing deathmatch, then it obviously works for them to a certain degree.

All flaming will do is at best tilt them, at worst cause them to actually intentionally throw or afk.

You know how you can play without people playing death match? Focus on your own play, improve, and rank up.

This is an issue with framing and wording. People are receptive to advice if you’re not a jerk about it.

Because… There’s a lot of immature gamers with a lack of self control and anger issues?

Tf2, the game where you’ll see a slur in almost every game?

Tf2 doesn’t have the same kind of team based toxicity OW has because it’s a casual game.

You haven’t proven this, just asserted it.

The slurs in that game beg to differ.

Yep and just as many players lack the cognitive capacity to have any business playing this game to begin with…

Cause and effect…

I would recommend not naming other players, even if they are clear cheaters, or for whatever other reason, it’s agains’t ToS, maybe you can edit you original post.

For what happened, just report (and maybe save game/code).

This is crazy. I have not reported anyone for over month now and still recieve “thank you” note every day I log in for reporting…

Nah. If somebody is regularly insulting, harassing and scapegoating their team they should be suspended and if they refuse to change their behaviour they should be perm banned.

Not abusing people is the absolute minimum of acceptable behaviour and no amount of “yeah but what if?!” changes that.

TF2 has toxicity problems, but the worst one currently is cheaters, bots, and cheater bots, you can buy some cheat for not that much, and cheat without the fear of being VAC banned, don’t tell me the “oh they fixed the cheater/bot problem” cuz no, they didn’t.

For the toxicity, in casual is usually is people calling slurs or similars, but, well all know how different the community is so even if it’s against the conditions, they don’t give you know what. (also people abusing glitches, like the infinite HP, being inside walls, etc)

TF2 still makes a ton of money cuz unusuals/crates and such (gambling/loot boxes), but there it’s worse, cuz you don’t only need the box, you need an actual key to open them, and the only way to create keys in the game/market, is to literally buy them.

You really do just keep ignoring my points, don’t you?

I really regret trying to discuss anything with you in good faith.

Whatever. The game will continue to punish toxic players and continue to improve the community.

Honey I know exactly why tf2 is the way it is…

Were talking about verbal abuse… not bots and cheaters…

Omitting those, my point is very simple…

Tf2 doesnt have near the problem because those who get butthurt eventually either learn and grow, which leads to improvement in their experience… or they get driven away by it.

Either way the health of the playerbase benefits.

Meanwhile games like ow punish only those players who get upset… while those who provoke it are protected.

The point ultimately boils down to, theres only three ways to actually stop the problem

1: punish no one and let the community govern itself, which has proven to be effective countless times

2: remove all forms of communication from the game…

3: punish those who provoke “toxicity” along side those who are “toxic”

Until people who experience frequent toxicity from other players decide to accept some responsibility for their contribution to the problem… nothing will change, the last 6 years have shown us that…

Im not saying that every case is provoked… but quite a lot of them are.

Blizzards matchmaking system is also a major contributor in ow2

Maybe just don’t use the chat if you’re easily provoked?

Prepare for the next game news to be something like:
“OW2 has seen an increase in “X” toxic behaviour and/or “x” hate speech”.

And also, ironic thing is, TF2 DID have that type of news in the past. And even before that news, you in-game are autokicked if you say specific words (I won’t name those words). (been playing TF2 since 2014)

So the whole let anyone do whatever they want doesn’t really work.

Apart from that, I mostly play QP, and haven’t seen that much in-chat toxicity compared to the ones from TF2.

That’s apart of the throwers toxicity.

“When you stare into the abyss”… lol

Nah, just an increase in people crying wolf, over it…

Which would diminish over time…as they either adapt to the environment or are driven out of it.

So, nothing to say about the times TF2 was on the news, exactly for that you are talking “won’t happen”, no? k.

This.

People really aren’t remembering the beginning of ow1. There was soooo much sexism, racism, slurs, and self harm suggestions being thrown around. It took them a while to reign toxicity in to somewhat bearable and acceptable levels.

Going back to that just isn’t really possible or something anyone wants.

The literally only thing that has changed in the last 20 years is gamers have become progressively more immature.

To a point they are having meltdowns because some rando in a online game called them bad…

Its childish, sad and pathetic…

Made even worse the fact they are to apathetic to use the mute button…

No one is saying the mute button doesn’t exist, use it.

The thing is, report, then use the mute button.

“you know well they say some things, I say some things, lets act like both things we said are equally in terms of toxicity, yeah why not”

No.

They certainly aren’t equal.

Theres a big difference between getting called bad or someone using a slur against you, im sure 99.99% of people here would agree that the slur user should be punished…

The problem is “toxicity” is an entirely subject concept… so what you, I or anyone else find to be “toxic” is going to vary wildly…

As a result we have an environment where saying literally anything can get you punished.

At which point your guilty until proven innocent…

Its just as unhealthy for the game as the “toxicity” is

Personally i would say its more harmful, as this game is team focused and this system makes many fearful to communicate with others…

Weird, I almost always get an action taken message by the next day (at least before I decided to turn off chat last week). Which platform are you on?

I do too… and im the person who reports the guy crying “toxic” because there spinelessness personally offends me… among other littke things that a mute would be more than adequate to address

And im well within my right based on what the tos defines as “abusive chat”

i find it extremely absurd… but, when in rome

Gotta do my part to fight “toxicity” too

See the problem here?

Ya know, you really just tore the mask off the “just mute” sentiment that’s been going around lately.
