I changed some NVIDIA settings as recommended here: "Render Device Lost" Fix for RTX - #20 by Zaze-1399 and this seems to have fixed my crashing issue - at least I have been playing for over an hour without any issues. I am using the latest NVIDIA drivers (rather than the older drivers as previously suggested).
