As others stated, although a sword would be cool, his model would require him to be holding onto the blade, so it makes no sense. I’d rather see other two-handed weapons that require a similar grip, like another axe or a halberd.

Perhaps a Naginata could work? I’ll use Hyrule Warriors Impa’s weapons as an example here.

The hilt is pretty long, with a blade at the top. Therefor I think it would be doable to give Rein a Naginata, instead of a sword.

A Naginata would be cool, but it wouldn’t fit thematically. Iirc, Naginatas were weapons often used by women to keep certain men at a distance, where brute strength and the size of them wouldn’t be as deciding a factor. Similar to how I said with glaives earlier, Naginatas are more about dexterity then they are about sheer strength

A shovel would fit better. It’s a tool as well and there is a reference somewhere.
And a skin that makes him look like the final boss from the first Golden Axe arcade game.

Scythes aren’t exactly useful weapons. Anime as all hell sure, but they usually get turned into polearms or pikes, and at that point, you actually might find Moreno use with a Glaive

How about a Zweilhander?
Dark souls doesn’t do this, but the sword has two hilts and handles to grasp
Now a sword would look cool, but it wouldn’t match his silhouette and the way he grips the weapon. It would need an extremely long handle, and short blade to be effective.
“Sword Down!” just doesn’t have a nice ring to it
