Reaper is too team dependent now

You took the words out of my mouth here lol, this post doesn’t get why he feels underwhelming and fails to understand that the people who are good at reaper and love our edgyboi love his playstyle of being what is essentially a beefy flanker with shotguns who is a great duelist, disrupt the enemy backline, and can get in and out of enemy backlines with his abilities.

Yeah because Reaper is too simple of a kit to get any utility out of him. They can’t properly balance him without Reaper being absolutely garbage in high ranks or an OP menace in low ranks.

He needs more skill. The dev’s are removing that.

edit: maybe not a rework. but his abilities need huge buffs. he gets wraith, and shadowstep is mostly used outside combat

But the obvious solution there is just to… scale back his OW2 spread increase proportionate to his lost speed with the recent DPS Role Passive change.

That’s all he really needs.

Edit in response to your edit:
Yeah, a little bit extra effective range would hit the nail on the head. That’d be great.

If you want to push that added power evenly, or more towards a bonus against thinner targets than large ones (e.g., tanks), you typically reduce spread to accomplish that. If you want that that to affect large targets more so than thin ones and give lull pressure only, you can increase falloff range.

Well, take that factor, for instance.

If the total duration of Shadowstep were shorter (say, 1.5s instead of 2s), ideally without reducing invuln time (at least proportionately), then it could better be used while under pressure. It would also increase his mobility.

If the invuln period (wherein he is on neither side) were increased to a greater portion of Shadowstep’s total duration, likewise, he would be safer and more able to use it under pressure, without it increasing his overall mobility.

Etc., etc.

Those don’t require reworks — merely very minor tweaks of certain parameters.

I’m still surprised he hasn’t received a secondary fire option. I’m assuming in the form of a Talent for OW2 PvE mode.

He does fly though in lore…

Also if you look at his classic II skin he has like smoke bombs. Or something on his belt. Smokebombs would be something new utility. If wraith form had its own abilities that would also be nice. Maybe like shadowmend, and an ability you can pick to be empowered by when you leave wraith form. Or even like a debuff you can leave enemies you pass through.

We don’t play cinematics. We play the game.

When the two contradict each other, the game is the more relevant precedent.

If you want him to fly, just tell us how that would be cohesive with, and better capitalize upon, the rest of his kit. Not its janky new affordances. Not that it looks cool. Its gameplay.

Yes and the lore allows us to make new abilities. They may be there for pvp but they may be there for pve as well. Anyways I think his kit would be nice to add something. It’s just two abilities, positioning and a decent gun.

Do I really need to go into how making him fly in wraith form would be impactful for diving? Infight positioning? Heck they could make wraith form have shadow step turn into a flying ability.

Any net buff on a balanced character would have to be made up for with compensatory nerfs of roughly even value given his new use cases and their resulting typical niche.

What you’d want is to establish that the new niche (e.g., as a low-sustain-damage, lower-sustained-survivability, more dive-fluid character) would be better to the average Reaper player than the long-held niche Reaper mains already enjoy.

They should just reduce the HP to 225, for his counters does not change anything, with 225 the developers can finally making him an assassin/tankbuster that he deserve to be not this clunky, slow excuse of a shotgun hero abandoned :ghost::heart:

Give him his explosive shells from the cinematics as a sort of midrange option.

Same with Moira

they’re just throwing stuff around at this point hoping something will stick

they been throwing stuff at Moira for like 2 years

Reaper got that “buff” in OW1 that made him worse, but they refuse to revert it as they think it’s “good” it’s insane lol

i’m 100% sure that even OWL players can’t get the full damage potential of Reaper given how absurdely stupid his damage per pellets + spread is.
We need to stop the BS of thinking that Reaper has good “damage” in the right situations because it just never happens ever.
Reaper shouldn’t be balance around how much damage he does per headshots, he should be balance about how much damage he can deal to someone with a normal hitbox from around 10 meters away for christ sake.
Right now in OW2 he can only deal “significant” damage to someone from EXTREME CLOSE RANGE, and i’m talking POINT BLANK. His damage output in OW2 is absolutely PATHETIC
They should have just put OW1 Reaper in OW2 and call it a day.

Is there even any footage out there of pre-nerf Alpha Reaper? There is no way he was so overpowered he needed this huge of a nerf.
