Realistically, what's up with Ball's armor

Wrecking Ball has 175 armor, one of the lowest of the tanks that have armor. Beaten out by Orisa, Dva, Reinhardt, Mauga, and Winston, it puts ball in a really weird place because of just how strong armor is and how much every other tank gets.

Realistically, Ball is literally just a big metal ball majority of the time, and occasionally he pops out. Mauga is a buff dude with a little bit of armor on his pants and no shirt. Winston is wearing a full suit but about 50% of it is made out of flexible material. Dva literally has OVER 2x Ball’s armor for no reason. I could go on about every character. Im not asking that ball be only armor or the most armor in the game, but why does he have so little when his character design is literally just a metal ball.

because he gets a tonne of overhealth when ever he uses adaptive shield, being up to 1k health

hes survivable because of his mobility and the players knowledge of healthpacks, not based on pure stats

Im still confused by the “Transfer Shield to Teammates”. Does that even work? I cant think of any time I would ever use that feature…

It has its uses. Depends on whether your team cooperates or not.

I’m not sure if health pools work the same as in ow1 but I think having shields/overhealth over top armor makes it strong?

It’s just a gimmick you just pop it when you have like 1s on left on shields to help your team a bit

Sigma does not have armor, FYI. He has shield health, but this does not get damage reduction like armor does.

Just FYI - Sigma doesn’t have any armor. Ramattra does though.

Could it be that Ball has no headshot hitbox most of the time and D.Va has the easiest headshot hitbox to hit in the entire game?

Because he barely has a critbox and is able to move very quickly making it very hard to kill him without CC and good focus fire.

He has the smallest head of the tanks (I’m pretty sure) and you can put it away entirely.
There’s more than a bit weird about him being a tank.

What if I said he was the Mercy of tanks? They take advantage of things in different ways to do the same job done (tanking in his case) which is moving more than normal to get “it” done.

Hmmm, Ok. I guess i will give it a try in battle

You would use share shields when you as ball have alot of health, but your diving teammates dont have as much health

Gotcha Ok. Thats a rare situation for me!

The ball sack should be flexible, can’t add more Kevlar to it

Sigma doesn’t have any armor…

because he has a button that gives him HP and can easily escape when he needs to. brawl tanks SHOULD have more armor because they take MORE damage consistently

armor isnt some lore thing its a balance tool (that is currently out of hand)

I guess if you’re looking for an in-universe reason for armor values:
Mauga was surgically augmented to be a big guy. He was also built for combat so his metal upgrades are probably very durable.
I can’t think of much of a reason for Winston. I guess he has clothes strong enough to protect a gorilla…
D.Va is in a machine built for combat. It makes sense that it would be reinforced to take hits.
Hammond’s ball is a modified escape pod. Initially built to take impacts but not for combat. He later upgraded it for mech combat in Junkertown but they don’t have the best equipment there so his armor isn’t that strong.

Well, if her matrix wasn’t in front of it pretty much all the time that would be true. But since it is, no, hers is not the easiest to hit in reality.

Yes and it’s very underrated.

There will be times as ball when you can get a huge shield off but the enemy is still focusing your team (for example, fighting on point and they’re trying to take one of your squishies out of the fight). Being able to give overhealth to allies helps save them during critical moments or to help provide a buffer to help avoid cheesy kills. It’s also great to do when your own overhealth is about to end. Might as well share it and help save someone else than let it go to waste.

Also, being able to retract the grapples tether allows for more movement options when rolling around and can help lead to getting air time in otherwise difficult spots.

I do it by mistake more than anything else

Most often to my instant annoyance because it dispels my health

This is a lame response. As if the same isn’t true for Rein or Sigma. I obviously meant when DM is down. Lowest risk highest reward crit box in the game.

Hardly. 25% headshot reduction and tons of armour to reduce it further. Tanks with no armour are much higher reward hitbox and I would guess hog and mauga have bigger crit boxes and no defense against getting hit other than cover. To say that DVa is the easiest to hit is disingenuous.
