Random Disconnects

I’ve been having this issue for nearly a year now. Basically what happens is that I get a red exclamation icon on my screen which lasts about 5 seconds and then it kicks me out of the game. It says “lost connection to game server” and then puts me back into the main menu and I can reconnect fine. Nothing else goes offline like Discord, Chrome, etc. just Overwatch. I have a YouTube link that shows the issue in one of my ranked games if any developer would like to see the main problem.

I have absolutely no idea what causes this but it’s been happening nearly every play session, oftentimes more than once. I am using an ethernet cable, so it’s not a wireless issue.

You would need to capture the disconnect with a connection test to find out where it’s happening.

Depending on how often it’s happening, it could be your IP renewing through the modem.

Ok, I will do that and send the tests when it happens again. For reference, it happens at least once every day.

That could be explained by your IP renewing, which is something a lot of ISPs perform daily on their modems.

Do you know if there’s a way to remedy that? Here’s the WinMTR test when it happened.

So there’s a bit of lag in the peering partner that AtlanticBB uses, their name is Twelve99. There’s nothing you as a customer can do about that other than tell the ISP this is happening. As for a disconnection, I don’t see one in this test.

When it comes to the IP renewing, you may need to call the ISP and ask them to disable it (if they can).
