Random Battle.net disconnections

Hey. I’ve had a problem for some months now and it’s driving me crazy. The bnet app seems to lose connection to Blizzard servers and disconnects me at random times. I left some competitive matches because of that. Opening the cmd tab and typing ipconfig /flushdns seems to fix the problem and reconnects me to the servers, but the bug still occurs later on.

I’ve tried every possible steps on the forums, nothing worked. Here are my traceroute and MTR. Thanks in advance. (I added - before the links to delete them)

Have you tried using another DNS? Like Google’s 8.8.8.8?

Yes, I tried both Google’s DNS and OpenDNS, but it still happens.

How often are the disconnects? Some modem/router combos from the ISP are set to release/renew your IP every 58-62 minutes, so maybe it’s that? Your network tests don’t look bad at all, but we might be best served with a WinMTR that you run for 5-10mins, or until you have the problem (it won’t lag you or anything). You can post the results here.

I’m not quite sure, sometimes I can play for a few hours without having any disconnections, and all of a sudden get disconnected every 45 minutes. I don’t think it comes from my modem since /flushdns fixes it. I’ve also tried /flushdns before launching a game but I still ended up being disconnected about an hour later. Here’s the WinMTR. (ran it for about 10 minutes, had no disconnection)

Do you have any software to optimize your connection installed? Something like Gigabyte LAN Optimizer KillerNIC? These can also interfere with connections to Blizzard games.

I will say that the response time on your modem/ISP line is relatively high at 318ms for the “worst” column. Additionally, the test is showing 10-12% packet loss on the hops right after the one coming to your home. Whether these numbers are inflated by equipment designed to not respond to all ping requests is unknown, since I don’t work for your ISP. However, it wouldn’t hurt to give them a call and have them check out your connection from their end, or send a tech out to check the lines. These test results will help if you have a way to forward them to your ISP (email/Twitter).

I’ve got an MSI motherboard. My network drivers are managed by an app called Killer Control Center (used to be called Killer Network Manager), but I don’t use the optimizer. Do you think it may have an effect anyways ?
I’ll call my ISP to see if there’s anything wrong with my connection, but it seems odd to me that it would only affect Battlenet.

Definitely. They have a post about it in known issues, so I’d try removing it and see if it helps.

I tried uninstalling it but it totally removes my network drivers and disables internet lol. I reinstalled it and I tried disabling “Advanced Stream Detect”. I’ll see if it has any impact and will come back to you. Thanks.

Hello Waxer

To add on to what Nicole pointed out about the Killer devices, there is a ‘driver only’ package you can get from their support page that you should use instead if you’re removing the control panel and its extra features:

Best of luck in your adventures
