Quickplay utterly broken

  1. I play solo so why do I fight the discord groups?
  2. My Rank is wet sock 400 why do I play against masters?
  3. What are the mechanics behind the match maker, pray?

You do have a point there, my friend

There basically isn’t any matchmaking in QP as it prioritises finding a game as quickly as possible

Which is why It shouldn’t be considered a serious mode.

Ok, I understand, but where is the fun in that? I stomp…no fun…I get stomped…no fun…so…? Back in the good days of playing games online, one could do something like scramble teams and there was auto balancing…why not any more?

Because people play with friends and its quick play.

Because even wetter sock can queue with masters and get put in wet sock lobby.

average MMR of both teams roughly equal = match

Unlike the original OW—where players of similar skill were matched together—OW2 uses the so-called wide system. This system can match players of any skill level, from bronze to top 500, as long as the total MMR of both teams is similar (typically within a 40-60% range for QP). When possible, roles are mirrored, meaning if one team has a bronze tank and a top 500 support, the other team should as well. But keep in mind that mirroring doesn’t always happen, since fast queue times take priority over match quality in wide matches.

Originally, this system was designed to let players of different skill levels play together in a group. At first, only players in wide groups were placed in these matches, while solo players and duos with similar MMR were placed in the so-called narrow pool, which provided better match quality compared to the wide pool.

However, as the player base shrank and global queue times increased, the wide matchmaking system started being used for all players—not just those in wide groups—as a way to keep queue times low. This is why queue times have barely changed, even after OW lost roughly 30% of its concurrent players (just my estimate) after MR launched.

The issue with the wide system is that while it successfully reduces queue times, it does so at the expense of match quality. And in the long run, this just drives more players away. Fewer players mean longer queue times, and to compensate, the matchmaker creates even more wide matches. It’s a vicious cycle.

There are other problems with the wide system (like how easily it can be exploited), but I won’t go into detail here since this post is already long enough.

Oh so this is why I keep getting that slider in my team who has lesser damage than red team kiri.

Just avoid and report.

never tell people “its a skill issue” because then they get angry enough they will start RAGE HACKING.

Match making for quickplay has been supercharged lately to the point of not really being too fun when a person has to face really high skilled players and people dont want to play comp because it lasts FOREVER and when people rage quit there is no backfilling.,
