I wanted to introduce my friends to OW2 since we were getting bored of Valorant (which is a FAR better experience for new players).
Despite all of us having brand new accounts and not knowing any of the heroes, and I doing nothing but healbotting them, we were matched against high level players, with only one or two new players but buried beneath lvl 250 rammattras, lvl 5 endorsements, sword girl one shotting all of us and running away, ranked players etc…
everyone else knew what they were doing and how to play the game decently well while most of us were still learning what the objective of the game is and what abilities their heroes do.
They claimed to have been having fun but went 3-7, 2-8, every game and we lost about 8 games in a row before we gave up. We tried it again tomorrow, hoping MMR maybe adjusted, but no we continued with a <20% winrate, and even got matched against diamond and masters players sometimes. Needless to say they wanted to play Val instead the day after.
Please fix quickplay, it wasn’t like this a few months ago.
I have many times gotten sick of how sweaty comp is, so I go to quick play to enjoy a casual game or learn a new character - only to find it’s arguably WORSE than comp.
I am on Xbox and I think the worst part is that quick play is forced crossplay so you are getting destroyed by people using mkb, it’s an awful experience.
On a similar note the competitive matchmaking is seemingly random these days. Most games are stomp or be stomped
All i have to say is that I’m sorry you guys have this experience. It’s not the welcome a game should give you and certaintly doesn’t sound fun.
I do hope your friends eventually discover the beauty and fun of this game (maybe some of them are already discovered their ‘main’? ) and hopefully the matchmaking will get better for you guys anytime soon.
i think the algorithm really puts brand new players with old accounts. i always notice im a gazillion times higher in level than the players i play with in quickplay heh
i mean i cant prove anything tho but i always wonder about that. when i win with said players i think they are smurf accounts lol
How is Valorant a better experience for new players? Genuinely curious on your feedback about that.
I started OW first and then a couple years after Valorant came out I decided to give it a try and I have to say… when a lot of the weapons can one-shot head shot you and then you have to spend the rest of the round spectating… learning that game can take forever when you’re new, especially if you’re new to that style of FPS.
I spend the first 6 months working hard to learn that game but mostly getting only one or two kills per match and dying dozens of times.
At any rate, when did you start playing Valorant? At it’s release, or later on?
Yes, my friends claimed they liked the instant respawn of Overwatch a lot more, but the main con is there is virtually nothing stopping you from making a new smurf account on Valorant. That being said, we all seem to be matched with people that suck as much as we do more often than not which gives us a decent fighting chance. Our win rate has held between 40-50% on Valorant, our win rate on OW is less than 25%
Yeah, I don’t understand why Blizzard is so insistent on mixing fresh players with vets. Who on Earth would think it fun to try out a new game and just get curb stomped over and over again???
New players should only get new players on both sides.
Period.
And get rid of those friggin smurfs so that they can’t bulldoze new players as well.
It is, I play on PC and almost exclusively QP, I always check the groups screen halfway through a match and like 1 out of 3 games theres console players in them. Usually one or two, sometimes more. PC users, are at least “forced” into crossplay in QP, console players can turn it off.
I fixed it for you. It’s not just happening to new players. Their matchmaking system is god awful. I attribute it to the lack of functioning server and lower player count. It’s true that this game is dying. Sure, they can claim steam charts this and active players that, but the amount of returning and committed players is at an all time low. It’s mainly one-offs and weekend boredom.
Theres definitely something wacky about the MM lately. Very Stompy. Lots of Newbies too. Id suggest playing on the weekends when theres a bigger pool of Newbies, to help even the battlefield in MM.
It kind of feel like the Newbie pull got turned off, or broke at some point. As someone told me they didn’t have a character unlocked. As in they were still in their first ten games / haven’t restarted their game yet.
Which is odd, as it doesn’t seem like they low on players.
I would suffer hard if my buddy only healbottet me putting all the weight to perform on me instead of getting killa himself and letting me win even if I do nothing.
which is also why I dislike mercy, Doesn’t help me playing better.
a zen doing more kills makes my game a lot easier.
yeah I may die more than with a mercy but dying doesn’t mean losing the team fight with the zen. mercy won’t do much after I died except wait for me to return to die again. helpful.
