Honestly I think people are overestimating what feels reasonable to wait. I’d say that waiting five minutes is when things go from bad to excessive.
Just think, the average person might be jumping onto their playstation to play some Genji whilst their mate watches and they tale turns. Are they just going to sit there for 20 minutes for every game that lasts around 9 minute? I dunno.
The warning for excessive queue times in high ranked competitive usually only meant two minutes. Thats what a long wait for matchmaking is.

It kinda comes across as thinly-veiled passive aggression. The fact you’re highlighting solely DPS players proves that. Not all DPS players want 2 - 2 - 2, and not all of the people who want it are DPS players.
I main DPS, I think it’s a poor idea. I’d much rather they actually work on balancing the game.
2-2-2 queue is not a great solution, they should just limit supports to 2 per team instead.
That does close to nothing for the ladder though.
Wasn’t being passive aggressive… at all. If You read the text in that way that is on you. I was simply trying to paint a mental picture the best I could to avoid getting a knee jerk response like most replies get in the thread. Was it something this forum isn’t used to reading? Yes, sure I will give you that, but in no way was it passive aggressive.
I fall into this category. I’ve stated in previous threads why: I feel it will create stale metas with mirror match ups because it will limit viable variety in team comp building and in the dps roster (specifically for the upper ranks and OWL). Heroes that were niche are finally starting to see action, but this will change again if 2-2-2 is implemented unless they rework a bunch of heroes to fit into that mold.
That being said, this thread was created to understand how dps players felt about a significant longer queue time. I was under the impression those queue times really haven’t set in, but I’m starting to think I might be wrong (happy to be wrong in this case) because given the responses to this thread, most seem to be okay waiting 15 minutes.
I guess these are people who also don’t mind sitting in traffic.

Im a flex player but to answer it, i would accept any length at queue in change of a more quality gaming experience. We dont have to stare at the que screen either. We can do other things while we wait like chatting on Discord or watching some videos, etc.
I probably play a different game, like osu! Or the wow raid/dungeon que assisst: Hearthstone.
Until my que is over.
If The quality is increased, why not?
As long as we have quick arcades theres no issue imho.

It guarantees you a team comp, but not necessarily quality. You get two tanks, but neither goes main tank. You get two healers, but neither goes main healer. You get two dps, but one never switches when they have 4 counters stacked on them from the enemy team.
I’m very skeptical 2-2-2 will be equivalent to “quality”

Not a dps player, but for me a max of 10 minutes queue time would be fine. Most matches can be fairly long, so it’s not like you’re waiting to play just for 2 minutes.
It’s really just a lose-lose situation.
- Role queue gets implemented: DPS queue times will likely skyrocket, causing people to leave.
- Role queue doesn’t get implemented: complaints of tank/support shortage and all DPS teams will continue and every subsequent tank or support addition will have the risk of causing another GOATS dominating pro play.
And it all just stems from Blizzard not understanding that it’s a preference matter. You. Can’t. Force. People. To. Change. Their. Preference.
Just like the average child prefers candy over carrots as a snack, the average gamer prefers to play DPS over support/tank. A game has to adapt its design to it, the other way around doesn’t work.

Who started the 2-2-2 hysteria back up? It was either quiet for a while or the fact that I was MIA for about a month.
I don’t like 2-2-2, its like taking away a freedom, free will to make choices depending on how I think vs what I’m told to think.
You’re right about the wait times, and some people will not like the change in general, and either stay to troll, or leave the game and make the wait times even more impossible.
I remember in a game called Smite, I had a 20minute wait time. I remember it because the people who I was queued with, we all went and played Uno for a bit while we waited lost track of time and when we checked on it again it still was queuing and the timer was the proof. We ended up not playing, and two people ended up uninstalling. My point is the same that yours stems from.

I’m actually fine with 2 supports that wanted to play support.
That would be Jeff Kaplan himself going on a stream talking about how he wants it in the game.
Well, if you’re queuing solo, the times seem fine. Hell, make it like yeti hunt where after a certain amount of time on other roles you get preferential matchmaking.
If you’re queuing as a duo or trio, if you take two roles or even all three, that should be the golden matchmaking where you’ve essentially solved the matchmaking problem yourself, this should be the fastest way into a game by default.
If however you are a DPS duo, then a warning should come up that you can expect a long wait due to the matchmaker queuing both of you having to match two of the most popular slot. In this case it might recommend that one of you switch to complement the DPS slot.
Obviously healing/tanking duos would get almost instantaneous matches, and this is also fine.
Encouraging team focused role picking is a good thing, and should be rewarded with quick matches that are well balanced.

System working as intended?

Seriously? Man, I did miss a lot… He’s going to lose his game if he doesn’t get more people on board. Maybe forced 2-2-2 will be at the beginning and won’t be forced later in the game, or something.
As a tank main, I don’t see myself grouping with dps players in this system because I feel it would increase my wait time. I’d be far more likely to group with my support and other tank friends.

This just helps the DPS player queue times even more to go down! You’re proof that the system would encourage role picks for faster matchmaking, which means more predictable and good tanking/support (the real carry roles) which essentially makes for higher quality matches.
I want to play tank/support in comp, but can’t tank even close to as well as my DPS matchmaking would require. In the 2-2-2 role matchmaking with role based SR, I can queue for those roles without the matchmaker expecting me to Tracer/Widow/Ashe, and actually play and learn the tank role at the level I can be effective on it.
That’s why this system will be good, because it lets people play the game properly in the role they want to play.

They could implement it like Mei’s YETI HUNT mode where the more you play other roles, it increases your chances (moves you to front of the queue) for other roles. Anyhow, ~20 mins is acceptable queue time for me as a DPS.

Yeah, this is how I think it will balance out queue times also. As long as it’s not a 1:1 queue equivalence so people just throw their tank games to get faster DPS matches, then it should be fine. But Blizz would never implement a system which would be exploitable and broken… would they?
