QP Warriors are getting out of hand Blizzard

I’m about to tell you a story of what I have JUST literally not 5 minutes ago experienced in quick play and you tell me if I’m wrong about this basic viewing of the community at large.

So, I was playing Ball for the first time ever (I wanted to grind some levels to get a free lootbox) so I qued for a qp game and began to as expected suck terribly. Now this was a 2 out of 3 game on Busan so of course the game was a long one, the first round was very quick we got stomped and had a Soldier 76 who was just in voice chat e-begging our mercy for rezs while talking like a baby “tawking jwust wike dis” all game, and it was VERY obviously a cringe baity way for some kind of reaction video, so I muted him. Next round we are starting and the other dps pretty much rage quits and tells me I’m going to be in their “suislide” note… ya… moving on, right after our 76 the guy I muted then types out in all game chat " Our ball is disabled…" so I responded simply with " it’s my first ever game as ball… I’m learning him in quick play, you know… the reason this mode was made…lol" to which the enemy Ana said pretty much " flaming a person is okay if they are being carried by the team." to which I just stared at my screen with a thousand yard stare and began contemplating why I even bother trying to understand this community and their mind set.

Now we won round 2 I swapped to Rein ( a hero I have some actual exp and hours on) and stomped them down so we go on to round 3. I decided to swap back to ball and just have fun for round 3, now pay in mind the enemy Ana asked me " why swap back to ball" to which I replied " because it’s qp and theres nothing to lose from losing and I wanna have fun and play them…" now the rest of the game is pretty much them typing to me and explaining how flaming someone is okay as long as they suck, even in qp." so they pretty much only had one support all game, and they lost the game, so not only did we get to win the first game ever as Ball but also we got a free level out of it all, However, as the last few seconds of the game was closing the enemies Cassidy then typed out " yall are trash  " and I was just again staring at my screen and thinking to myself. This community has REALLY fallen from grace dude.

I don’t know if this is just me, but I think we need to make harsher punishments for people who just think it’s okay to flame people for being bad at a character in QP, there is nothing to lose in QP other than stats and lets face facts most people are plat and aren’t going into the OWCS so their stats don’t matter, hence why QP should just be a place where we are allowed to play a game try and learn the hero and move on, you don’t lose SR or anything important from the game so personally I see flaming someone in QP as just down right a heel of a thing to do. I’ll admit though we all get frustrated at a game and will take it out on someone once in a while but come on… this isn’t even the only toxic story I have of this happening… THIS WEEK, it’s getting out of control devs… do something…

But what do yall think, do you agree with the Ana? do you think Flaming is okay if they are bad EVEN IN QP? or want to just tell me a story about your own toxic players experience? well feel free to let me know I’ll be reading the comments.

I think if you’re going to “fool” the matchmaker into putting you into the tank at a certain “skill” slot then play a character you have no experience on you’re going to disappoint a lot of people with your performance.

Those people will likely express that disappointment.

I don’t think you deserve it or that constant flaming is OK… or even just initial flaming. It’s not nice, and objectively they should be responsible for just not saying anything. BUT… it’s understandable.

However, I think that you, doing this thing, should have just ignored the comments and played since all you wanted to do was try ball. The rest of the teams input really has no relevance and you should expect it to be unhelpful.

Report people who say mean garbage, but temper that with fully understanding what you just did.

No, but toxicity isn’t as prevalent in Overwatch as you’re making it out to be.

You had a rough game. It’s okay. We don’t need harsher punishments for everyone because a few people told you you were a bad tank.

I think honestly while this is a fair point to some, this is subjective, I CONSTANTLY get flamed at least 10 times every week, now sure I’m a streamer for this game so SHOCKER some people are toxic but to just say we don’t have a toxic player problem is not true in my opinion. Sure we aren’t LoL levels yet but if we don’t do something about them we will be…

So you threw on Ball, then the lobby gave you a piece of their mind? Of course the Ana was right. Being terrible at a character should be a bannable offense, and they should actually take some action over throwers. Reporting for throwing never does anything.

Threw on ball? I was practicing in qp… did you read the whole thing were I said it was QP you know… a place to practice… NOT ranked… are you baiting me? lol

I’m gonna be the :nerd_face: and say it: context.

What does “getting flamed” mean to you? And how much is 10 times a week? If you play 10 games a day it’s basically nothing. Sure, I, too, get a guy sometimes complaining that I should’ve used an ult or I’m useless or whatever, but while annoying and (imo) often toxic, it’s not deserving of punishment. Someone really lashing out and using slurs or something… geez I can’t even remember when I saw that last.

I’m talking like the example I just gave you above of people saying those types of things or worse, I’m not saying “flaming” as in someone in the chat types out " you big doo doo head" I’m saying like they all start saying homophobic, racial or down right dark insults to you, and these happen to me at least between 5 to 10 times a week in this game most in QP actually in ranked I hardly have any chatters lol

Me, I would be in VS AI, learning. You’re trying to get the fundamentals down. So fighting real people isn’t necessary. That way you wouldn’t have pissed people off. Learning what wall causes Ball to get stuck. Or failing to use the hook line. Remember, QP is the main mode for lots of people. And losing is the same as a comp game. You are going to get that reaction. Now, abuse is abuse. Report and move on.

I finally decided to lean Mercy. I learned all the basic stuff in VS AI. I had no idea how her GA hopping worked. You know how many QP games we would have lost. If I did what I was doing in VS AI, with her. I even thought the AI was gonna be dumb with her res. But I got killed easily. So it made me learned when to res.

While I understand this and as someone who also mainly plays QP again, they don’t lose anything for losing, they don’t lose rank or anything. they just que and go next, so exactly why is it "okay " to be hateful to people learning a hero? just doesn’t make sense to me man. I’m very logical if I see someone is losing something to an action I understand it but statistically speaking here, they don’t lose anything.

Yes. You throwing doesnt magically become not throwing just bc youre on qp. The game has actual practice modes btw, theyre called the training area or whatever and VS AI. You know, modes where you dont affect other people. You didnt even had the decency to let the game end and instead extended your teams suffering by switching to Rein and getting a round W, but then going right back to throwing. Pfft…

k so this isn’t gonna go anywhere, so i’m gonna just move on from… this mindset… lol

gotta be real tho, that note comment was at least funny

personally I’m pretty happy with the community overall, but ofc my experience isn’t your experience, so I just wanted to share my pov

In any case, that Ana is definitely wrong :triumph:

ya no I get it man EVERYONE has different experience, (note the kiri main in this forums discussions) lol and while I get some people don’t get this side of OW often to say " oh it doesn’t happen to me so it’s not real. isn’t a fair or factual statement, in my personal opinion the people in QP are getting out of hand with these wild mind sets of “learning a new hero = throwing " it’s not true first off, the devs have stated time and time again that classified throwing is afking, body blocking team mates, and playing new heroes in comp, NOT QP so until either Jeff comes back ( please daddy jeff come home…) or Aaron suddenly says " we are now deeming learning a new hero in qp as throwing” then I will be the dude that sits back and while I will listen to peoples views I will still believe firmly that QP is for learning and having fun, sweating is for comp.

If I was in your game. I would have gotten pissed off. However, I would have just probably left. I don’t say anything.

Right, bc no one said that. It is perfectly possible to start learning a new hero without throwing. Im doing it with Ashe myself, playing competent games since minute 0 with her. You said you were doing the complete opposite and doing it so bad that your own team flamed you. Also, the other team got into the flaming too. Theres a difference here, bud.

Which hey THAT is fair, but I have to ask you this then, when is the difference in me playing a character I don’t know and learning them in QP and someone brand new to the game picking a random character they like and learning them? like, we are both trying to learn a new hero and what not however, the position MOST people have is " you can’t flame the new person they are new…" well then why can we flame the person thats learning a new character? aren’t they technically new there? this isn’t rage bait btw I’m just genuinely curious on your take.

First thing I wouldn’t do? Admit to ANYTHING. Including your playtime on a hero. Let them have their tantrums, and just ignore what they might say. Never give them a reason to say anything.

I get called trash playing a new-to-me hero in QP one game, and called a god with it next game. Makes no sense, but I don’t respond to either one of them.

(I have been on a JQ kick lately, and maintaining a decent QP win rate @59%, despite only having a few hours on her)

But every match can be a flip-flop with how your team perceives your performance.

Maybe you go 20-1 this game. Maybe you got 5-8 the next game with the same hero pick. You don’t know what will set someone off.

But you can bet that anyone that has a salty vein is going to complain about another player’s perceived performance. And its best not to respond. If they are really toxic, just report the text message directly.

Answering gives them ammo. Don’t give them ammo.

This story is starting to get good.

Oh, nevermind.

No, I only talk trash when provoked, but I am often provoked by people who happen to be underperforming. I do not go for that low hanging fruit, however. I am capable of so much more.

My best advice to u as a doom main.

First off have fun only way to progress is enjoying urself whether those of u understand agree or not

I started w doom parkour got used to physics of the way punch n slam works figured out map awareness n parkour usage with that too

Then played arcade team death match (got removed but still), total mayhem, no limits, n deathmatch got used to killing 1v1s and multi tanks cuz its pre intense puts u in crazy situations u have to adapt

You’re gonna feel hopeless at first like u can’t do anything and or are useless and you’ll 100% be in games where its a lost fight no matter if ur a chazm n zbra type mf either if ur actually outputting that value or just tryna land a move or shot

Idk what custom games there are for ball if there’s parkour mini games or aim trainer type games find those then run arcade or go right back into qp if u want, and ur literally going to get flamed and reported even if you don’t say type or reply anything so ur gonna have to steel urself cuz literal games u carry too u still get flamed and then the literal next game after u hear “ur actually good”

You just gotta know what you yourself are capable of and be self aware so u know ur not feeding and or when trying to jump in somehwhere you’ll see the enemy team prepared to trap you and focus you and you’ll become ult feed so always be prepared to “waste” a cooldown for escapes also stay aware for ur team turning ur camera 360 even while diving the back line cuz u have mobility so you’ll want to dive back lines but also give their tank a hit or two to keep them back but also disengage and try to catch whoever’s jumping ur team being literally HYPER aware managing ur cooldowns cuz you’ll want to use one at a time shoot a bit then disengage or find an escape which map awareness will help you a lot knowing where health packs are mini packs and big packs taking cover constantly using ur mobility to get wherever and doing ALL OF THAT at the same time being aware also CONSTANTLY minimal to no breaks but still hiding breaks to bamboozle and or lay out a trap behind cover for the enemy inbetween with everything I said in this paragraph cuz you’ll be wanting to hit that madara sharingan view when he went up against the WHOLE shinobi world in the 4th great ninja war

Even then I’d tell u to go in comp anyway as practice cuz you’ll fight more constantly having to make plays analyzing and calculating way way way more constant constant constant constantly being more consistent as you go if you choose that

You may derank but trust me you’ll still also consistently figure it out and rank back up or you may be fluctuating between a rank or two if you do choose to do that but you also have to never let it discourage you and have to consistently be figuring a one two combo move like grappling swoop n slam (idk hamster combos) and then expand ur arsenal n artillery after u get used to the patterns of those moves and figure out more to use u may even create a few for yourself as you get familiar w the physics of the moment

I saw someone say go against ai that is also a good idea because you’ll be able to get the literal basic fundamentals down facing crash dummies but you also need to go against real people because they’re unpredictable and u need that unpredictability in order to be able to get used to reacting fast enough and get used to expecting the unexpected and or then you’ll be able to see the future and make predictions and you’ll see you’ll surprise yourself you’ll get better
