Punished Again due to Server issues

The entire day today, every comp game I’ve tried to play I’ve been disconnected from the server. I immediately relaunch the client, and I can rejoin and play. This has got very frustrating. Currently I was penalized 100 SR (for winning) (I joined the game back and defended very well) as well as 2 hours of comp and -75% exp for 8 games.

Do you guys understand how stupid this is? Also I called up my ISP, there is no fault on my end or their end, I’ve been asking around and this has been happening to many people today.

If there is a server fault, just let us know. I lost about 200 SR the entire day.

Believe me they would if there was a issue with servers or their network providers. Unfortunately you must realize that no one’s connection simply goes straight through to Blizzard’s game servers, but passes through several network hubs. A problem anywhere in-between causes disconnections. The good news is that you can at least take the time to pinpoint the issue if it is happening frequently. Do this by running a WinMTR test:

WinMTR instructions:

  1. Download WinMTR from http://winmtr.net/download-winmtr/ (Console players need a Windows Desktop Computer connected to the same network as their console to do this.)
  2. Unzip the WinMTR.zip file to the Desktop.
  3. Open the WinMTR folder and select the 32 or 64 bit version. Choose whichever one corresponds to your version of Windows.
  4. Run the WinMTR.exe
  5. Type the IP address you want to trace in the “Host” field. To get the correct IP you will actually need to open up the game and go Practice Vs AI or Quick Play and if you are on PC hit Ctrl+Shift+N and it will bring up the ingame network diagnostic graph, or go to Video > Options > Display Network Performance Graph if you are on any platform including Console. In the top left corner is the IP address you want to run WinMTR to.
    Network Graph
note When looking at the IP it will show up ingame as something like 12.34.56.78:12345. You will want to leave the last 5 digits and the colon at the end off and the IP you want to use is just the 12.34.56.78
  6. Once you notice the connection issue while playing, play for about 6 more minutes, minimize the game and click on “Stop”.
  7. Click on “Copy text to clipboard”, then return to this forum thread.
  8. Type two sets of four squiggly lines and then paste the contents of the WinMTR test between: ~~~~ Paste WinMTR Test Results Here ~~~~

If in the event you can’t even connect to Overwatch and get into any game mode at all, please use one of the following IP addresses based on your geographical region:

  • US West - 24.105.30.129
  • US Central - 24.105.62.129
  • Brazil - 54.207.107.12
  • Europe - 185.60.114.159
  • Europe - 185.60.112.157
  • Korea - 211.234.110.1
  • Taiwan - 203.66.81.98

Its not fun to deal with disconnections especially when playing Competitive, but if you are disconnecting frequently please avoid playing Competitive until the issue can be identified and resolved. Unfortunately all disconnections and game crashes counts as leaving the match and will be penalized appropriately. The game server has no way to discern a legitimate disconnection or game crash from one that is forcefully caused by a dishonest player to bypass leaver penalties. WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider ~~~~

Thanks for posting a WinMTR, the network hub IP address 203.101.95.55 appears to be the significant issue in your connection its average ping rate jumps straight into the 100’s of milliseconds. This appears to be managed by Bharti Airtel Ltd. in India which I am guessing is a network partner of your ISP. So contacting your ISP and sharing these test results may not be a bad idea.

Also since you are connecting from India, if you are trying to connect to the Americas region you may encounter issues or high latency which are ongoing due to certain undersea cables that are cut from reaching the Singapore servers. However the issue I mentioned previously is a problem before that.

Thanks for the reply, I have checked with my ISP, and they say it’s clear from their end. Also, While in competitive games i have a ping of 80-150ms, as soon as I play Custom games, it goes upto 650ms. I’ll still talk with my ISP, and hope they resolve it. Is there any other thing I can do to improve my connection?

Now just to clarify, I don’t think the problem is directly with your ISP but someone between you and where it reaches Blizzard’s Game Provider. Now as I said, if you live in India and you are trying to reach the Signapore servers, you may be out of luck until network providers in that area fix the broken sea cables. See this ongoing post for details:

So which is the best server for me to join. Asia?
