PSA: Don't play on the 1st day of a new season

It’s probably not a good idea to play on the 1st day of a new season

I’m just realizing the last 3-4 seasons have all had significant game breaking bugs on the first day. In many cases, the vast majority of these are fixed on day 1. Sometimes in just a few hours. But it is still probably not wise to play on the launch day.

There have been: server issues, shop issues, hero gameplay issues, key bindings issues, cosmetics issues, game crashing issues, etc that are all things that have happened primarily on the first week of a new season because instead of a QA team we are the testers.

This season, I didn’t play on the first day. I know others who did. And as a result I didn’t have my keys unbound while some of them are going to have to go through and spend time rebinding things, fixing broken custom crosshairs, and other issues as a result.

Be like me, wait for day 2. I’m seriously tired of the bugs. And I am just going to do this going forward where I wait a day for the emergency patch because inevitably there is going to be an emergency patch. And while I think this is entirely unacceptable, I don’t expect it is going to change. So I will just not log in for a good 24 hours or so to ensure I don’t get impacted as severely.

The problem is that I get excited for the game and want to play it. Tell Blizzard to fix their game.

I think they need to have an actual QA team. No doubt. But if they aren’t going to hire one, I just don’t want to volunteer to be that for them. I’ll just wait until the beta testers other players find the bugs so I don’t have to.

This is EXACTLY what happened to me. DmonDiff in Discord gave us a heads up and it saved me from an enormous headache

If you care for stability, yeah, playing 2 weeks after release, then 1-2 weeks after midseason are the best times to play OW because early game hype is gone for characters. People are back to playing their best heroes not the new one. People have learned to play them and adapt to new changes.

Blizzard likely threw in emergency patches for stability or character balance.

I won so many comp games though the first day :pachimari_cry: Love when people on the other team crash out and I get those free wins  I only lost 1 game that night.

Ugh, how I wish that night could have lasted forever :pachimari_sleep:

Were they literally “crashing” or running into key bind problems or just getting upset per usual?

Could be either! Either way if it’s in my favour I am selfishly all for it

Personally, i kinda like the new season bugs: “Whats gonna break this time? Will it be silly? Will I find amusing? How will the forums respond?”. Its like a spontanous Easter Egg hunt! :grinning_cat: :pachimari_mew:

Until you have to put in a support ticket because the battle pass didn’t progress properly or you tried to purchase something and it didn’t show in your inventory or you couldn’t melee because you had that key rebound, your you get suspended for “leaving” due to crashing multiple times.

Ya know, all things that have happened to people. Not to mention the things like Dire Triggers having an unintended animation cancel. That I can see being an easter egg hunt type of thing but like some of these are really serious.

Ooofz

If i had those kinds of UI bugs, Id definitely be pretty upset too :face_with_spiral_eyes:
