overwatch is trash and activision made it that way. glad ow2 is free so i can join the hack fest after being so fking bored with this sh&t matchmaking and character balancing. i hope russia nuke blizzard of the fking map ![]()
I know there are players out there who might agree with this statement. But you have to understand there are real people working in the overwatch team and they very much do care about player experience.
This isn’t an easy game to get right, there will be mistakes and i’m sure the team will learn from them.
Blizzard isn’t just one person. It’s a large team of people. It’s easy to get frustrated at this game, but don’t attack the team saying they don’t care.
Sometimes many of these decisions are outside of on individuals hands. Some decisions I don’t understand, but it isn’t good reason to jump on the hate bandwagon and claim they don’t care.
That’s what I regretted the most on my alt account. They got me good.
Did they? Proof of this?
Where did they say this?
Seem to remember they announced this back in later August; and that it could change in the near future.
Given the margin of error, it could be higher or lower.
That said, it is likely that there are other damage-role heroes that are higher than 52%… such as Pharah.
Figured this out quick when I saw Diablo Immortal and their “Phones” excuse.
Rather then make something enjoyable they rather monetize it and have awful balancing.
“The damage role has seen many hero combinations across all ranks, but we’ve noticed some popular picks among our players. Genji and Sojourn started as the most popular heroes when Overwatch 2 launched, but they’ve since leveled out to the rest of the damage roster. Genji started off with a dominating win-rate, and although it’s lowered slightly since launch (currently at 52%), we want to make sure he’s not dominating the playing field. We’ll watch Genji carefully throughout the season to ensure he doesn’t slice up the competition too much and may make adjustments in Season Two. One way we are considering doing this is through an adjustment to the damage role passive, which has particularly benefited heroes like Genji.”
If you cut through the fluff in this, it’s pretty much them saying that Genji is too much atm. They said he was dominating in win rate and has since only come down “slightly.” They list 52% to make it sound not that bad, but notice, they don’t say “unmirrored” this time, so it’s likely that that’s his win rate overall–which, again, when his pickrate is very high, which they said it was, it artificially drives win rates towards 50% due to mirror matchups.
Not to mention, even if it IS (which they have always said “unmirrored” in the past when they meant unmirrored, so it seems unlikely) that is win rate across all ranks. Which is going to artificially drive the win rate down for people who play in bronze, again moving it more towards an equilibrium.
Without seeing win rate statistics by role, it’s pretty hard to paint an accurate picture of balance. But it’s fairly obvious from them writing a whole paragraph about him and talking about toning him down, they know he’s too much atm.
“Why put heroes into the battle pass? Well, the heroes are the single most engaging content that we have in the game. And as we designed this model, it seemed to be a very strong fit, to put those heroes into our new engagement systems… From the perspective of the business, this isn’t free. We spent a long time knowing how important this would be to players; we spent a long time thinking through how to be able to fund our continuous development of the game in a way that would still present fair and enjoyable experiences for all players, whether they choose to pay, or whether they choose to play for free. And our approach in terms of players who pay is to deliver a tremendous amount of value."
This is from Walter Kong, Overwatch GM. Keller said: “We’ve made changes to reduce the amount of hard counters that Overwatch has. Going forward, what we’ve done is, we’re trying to take some of those really hard rock, paper, scissors interactions out of the game, and replacing them with more player choice.”
(And then they released Kiriko, which is hilarious, as she’s very clearly a counterpick to certain options).
sooooo…why did my post of the amount of pay to get cosmetics are making people loose interest in the game get me flamed?
Because I’ve noticed a huge paradigm shift in OW2. OW1, they were a LOT more willing to listen to player feedback. Idk if anyone remembers, but when Lootboxes first came out, they tweaked the system a lot to make it more player-friendly and better for people.
Honestly, it seems like in the last 6 months or so, a lot of things have shifted. Idk what went on behind closed doors, but it really seems like a lot of the monetization choices are very recent. But there seem to be a lot of people that think Blizzard has no idea how unpopular all of these choices are… but they obviously know, and they’re making them anyway.
Oh, I agree. But the development team is not the one making monetization decisions. That much is obvious. You can really see how uncomfortable Aaron was in trying to justify putting heroes in the BP after they had spent the entire lifespan of the game before telling players how important it was that everyone can use every hero.
Blizzard as a company, the entity which makes all of the decisions people are grumpy about, absolutely doesn’t care. I’m sure the devs do, but they are extremely limited on what they can actually do.
So you’re making assumptions based on flimsy evidence from inferring what was stated.
Did you read the part where they can tweak the role passive and not Genji directly?
Such as?
game is ltierally going to hell i ended up leaving a match that had trashtalkers on my team if they try to report me i will just try and appeal and explain what was going on
It’s a game meant to sell merchandise, what do you expect?
That’s been a thing for so long, just looking at the merchandise that’s sold etc and it’s usually DVa/Mercy/Genji/Tracer
Nothing stops them to restrict OW1 coins only on OW1 legacy content in the first place. Nothing stops them to simply wipe out the concept of “OW1 coin” alongside the loot boxes. Yet they didn’t either of these. How is this is a proof of them to “create the most profit”?
You sound to me as if already enjoyed free food in a party and still complaining the food not being Michelin restaurant quality.
Maybe it’s busted on Genji, but it is absolutely busted on no one else. And I have not seen compelling evidence to the contrary. Honestly I never thought their original passive was overpowered either. It was just a case of some supports not making a smooth transition to the format. And those same heroes still need tuning or reworks. Most of the Support roster can deal with flankers just fine. And it’s not the fault of the flanker players that a couple of them eat dirt by default. Nor should flankers be nerfed for that reason. A good hard look should be had at the Supports that are lagging behind.
So basically, “It’s not scummy that they told people to spend all their currency (even though they could use that currency on new material) because they could’ve been even more awful?”
Blizzard hasn’t openly mass-murdered its employees, so clearly we shouldn’t have any problems with their sexual abuse either, right?
They kept the currency because that is the industry standard here–when games transition, the currency is always still worth something. In a lot of cases, it actually just straight-up becomes the premium currency. Them encouraging people to sell the currency and not explaining what the currency did in OW2 was a jerk move. Justify it all you want.
