UPDATE: The issue was fixed since v.2.20.0.0-145051! Update your game!
That’s it. Just as stated - after installing latest version whenever I press Esc being in match - game crashes.
Game version 2.20.0.0 - 144637.
Error report: F84025B0-B96A-406B-8C11-DF6CA8C17D1F.
P.S. Also happens whenever I click on any prestige tier in new battlepass.
P.P.S. Also happens whenever I type in chat.

Also trying to send a message in chat crashes the game on PC.

I haven’t tested it in the actual match, the game crashes for me whenever I:
- try importing an Custom Game code
- try to close chat with ESC
- try selecting a Prestige level, closing the Prestige section of Battle Pass or going back to the non-prestige section of Battle Pass
- use the search bar in Play > Custom Game
I’m using Steam version of Overwatch (on Linux~~, but doubt it should matter~~)

+1 here!
I’m on Fedora Linux 43 + Steam version, I managed to get into the game right after the update, was checking the Battle Pass and the game crashed, and after that I was not able to open it anymore, like straight-up black screen and crash.
I tried changing from ProtonGE 17 to 25, to Proton Experimental but to no avail, I also tried deleting Settings.ini (I thought that maybe there was some sort of conflict with the old settings, somehow) but that just broke it even more, crashing after the Blizzard animation.
I am reinstalling now, but I doubt this will fix anything at this point lmao
My game keeps crashing whenever I chat, or do much of anything, I hope this gets fixed soon too! Im on bazzite, with the steam version!
Ah so it IS a proton/linux related bug. Damn. haven’t had something like this happen since the launch of the game.
Any penguins working on OW mind helping us out
hiiii….
There’s like 12 topics about crashes in game’s steam community topics. All versions of Proton, all different distros - everyone dies.
Seems like Proton support is broken this patch, including both Steam Deck and PC.
Yeah it seems like a Linux bug, since most (all of us?) are on Linux.
I tried reinstalling after crashing during 3 matches, and now I can’t get past the Blizzard logo.
Tried with Proton Experimental and Proton-GE 10-26

Game crashed whenever I joined a game. I reinstalled the game. And now it crashes when opening. Tried Proton 10.0-3, Hotfix, Experimental and 8.0-5. Drivers are up to date. I use arch btw
Same bug, any text dialog (chat, workshop etc.) crashes the game
I’m using proton-cachyos-10.0-20251126-slr-x86_64
Seems like it’s some access violation (don’t have access reading some memory I assume)

Seems to be unrelated to Linux, appears to happen in windows as well
Reporting a player crashes the game as well. (Zorin OS, via Steam)

I’ve noticed it crashes on exit too using GE-Proton10-20 and Proton Experimental.
